January 22, TolkienEditor has uploaded the 6GB version of the recut.

In addition to the previous cuts https://imgur.com/gallery/thlJ16M. This version also has a few alterations, based on people’s requests, including trimming down the chase sequence through the goblin tunnels; colour correcting the transition from the Misty Mountains to Beorn’s house; taking out the Bombur “barrel bounce” (which is apparently the bane of some people’s existence); and tidying up the final fight on Ravenhill.

TolkienEditor:

"I have no idea how to remove the gold-coating from Smaug, though. I tried a few variations, but none of them work very well. So, this is the final version of the recut, for good or ill. :P"

"Now, I do want to temper people’s expectations for the 6GB version. Considering the difference in size, the quality isn't dramatically better. Rather, it is somewhere between a DVD and Blu-ray. "

This is his final version of the recut.

Thanks to user @TyrionOfHouseLannister we have a torrent:

"Unfortunately, the fact is that this 6GB version will eventually be taken down as well (probably even faster), and I don’t fancy having to upload a file that large every couple of days for months at a time. However, I did have a rather crazy idea as to how to keep the recut online indefinitely. What if each person who downloads the 6GB version, immediately re-uploaded it to another cloud storage site, and then posted the link to the comments section? We could then start building an index of all of the online whereabouts of the movie. Not only would that give us a perpetually regenerating list of mirror sites, but by using multiple locations, it would lessen the chances of each video being removed (since the traffic would be divided). This is one way the movie could stay online for everybody to watch."

i Really liked bombur's barrel scene...it made him feel useful

But I frickin love the Bombur barrel bounce. It had me actually laughing out loud in the theater

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I actually like Bombur's barrel fight.

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 7

I love it as well, some people can't go a day without drinking the haterade

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Doesn't he risk getting sued to death by Peter Jackson/New Line Cinema?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

If Peter Jackson is a real fan, he will understand.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yes, no doubt Peter Jackson wouldn't care. But the producers that are all about the moneys would... :/

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've read the book a little while ago. Didn't Smaug actually get doused in liquid gold?? why is everybody so upset about this???

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I'm glad the "barrel bounce" was removed... just one example of all the Jar-Jar Binks-ery they put in the movies

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

This is awesome. How many other motherfuckers out there saw a movie and said "fuck it, imma fix it"?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

1) I heard a rumour after the Phantom Menace came out that Kevin Smith completely re-cut the film and even re-dubbed Jar Jar Binks' voice...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2) ...and even changed his dialogue but either that was expertly hidden or completely untrue. In any case, I would've loved to see that.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can this have CC on it for deaf users?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Someone get on this. Seriously. All should enjoy the adventures of the little people and giant old man.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks so much for posting this! I wasn't sure how I'd find out when he released the 6GB version

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So uhh.. Anyone torrent this yet? Link please.. :3

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

im sure if you torrent , you can find it by now, as i found it straight away.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I LOVE IT now do the Harry Potter movies

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

But the Harry Potter movies are good overal. That's the difference

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

.....you read the books?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, but that's not important. Same with the Hobbit. I red that 20y ago and. It's not about deviating from the book for me, but enjoyment.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then you have no ability to argue with me about this

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please elaborate why... I don't care how much a movie deviates from the book, as long as it is enjoyable. Potter 1, Hobbit 0 imho

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You da real MVP TolkienEditor

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

... The cover of the book I used to read had Smaug's underbelly covered in gems/gold... >_>

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He's literally described in the books as having gold stuck to him and making his scales have a golden sheen...

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Right... so why is the guy trying to remove golden scales?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*Reading some of the comments* ...Wow...imgur really loves mediocrity... (not talking about this edit)

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Generally hate the wierd creatures, and what they did to Radagast. But I try to think of the movies as movies and not the book

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed. The amount of love these movies get baffles me

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Has anyone made subtitles to go with this? I'd love to watch it, but I'm hearing impaired and find subtitles to be a necessity.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I'd offer to make subtitles for you, but I fear that I'd get bored and start trolling you.

I was hoping it was just an issue for me. Might as well listen to the audio book while skimming Hobbit fan art.

what about a 1080p version :>?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Son, you want a 1080p version of a 4+ hour film at this resolution AND ~6gb!?! Imma need you to go build that codec yo self, fool!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He doesn't want a "4+ hour film at this resolution". He wants it at 1080p.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I huuuurd DAT! Also, the scenes from the final film are at an even lower resolution. I hope another release will come soon with better res.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i did not imply a similar filesize, i would be happy with a 15-20gb release :D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

WHAT ABOUT BLUNT THE KNIVES, GUY? WHY IS THAT STILL CUT, YO?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Because book hipsters are idiots.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

"book hipsters" hahahaha

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As a bibliophile with his own library. Yes. Book hipsters.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

That's the funniest thing I've ever heard. Book hipsters. Ahahaha.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

But I like the original films the way they are...

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 11

Good, you can watch them on hi def

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

read the book, it'll make you hate a lot of the shit in them lol

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 8

I wrote the book multiple times, still love those movies

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I read the book long before and reread it in between the movies. I love them both.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I read the book before I knew what fantasy was. The movies are still better.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Ehhhh, personally re-reading the Hobbit made me appreciate the movies. There's big globs of space between events and half the characters (1)

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

are just THERE, they don't do anything, which is part of it being translated from a story he told his children. The Hobbit films aren't (2)

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

the best, but I appreciate some of the things they tried to do. Like making the other dwarves unique. The three film thing is a big no (3)

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

for me, two would have been fine, and I didn't like what they did with Beorn or the love triangle, but I still enjoyed it.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Read the books before and after watching the movies as they came out. Still love the movies

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

just watch the regular movies then?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...What?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Definitely do. I just watched it, and it's really amazing.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll try to download it tonight and watch it over the weekend. That's the only time I'm likely to have a block of four hours sitting.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unpupular confession puffin-bear: I like the hobbit movies. They had their problems like any movie, but if you're getting butthurt (1)

11 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 21

The first time I watched them I tried to do so critically. Now I just watch them because they are absolutely fantastic movies. Like LOTR 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

I wish I could kiss you both.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I think they are far more Jackson and the team's perspective on the story than the actual tale It feels more fleshed out than the book did 2

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Exactly! If you go they old addage of "show, don't tell" The Hobbit is a pretty horrible book. It just didn't have a lot of details (1)

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

It's why I like the movies, they tried to adapt what was honestly Tolkien's weakest work into something more cohesive. Did they succeed? (1)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In some ways, yes. But I honestly enjoyed the fact that they tried. I do wish they used more practical effects though than CGI. :/ (2)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

they needed to make a satisfying movie. (2)

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I agree, though imo LOTR is waay too detailed for it to be an entertaining read and the hobbit was just lacking too much. Movies had balance

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

they didn't make a scene for scene remake of the books you had unrealistic expectations and wouldn't be pleased no matter what.

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 15

And there's no need to uselessly turn Smaug gold, but other changes are not so much of a deal.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Thank you! Not to mention, a few of the "Unwelcome changes" made to the story actually IMPROVED it in some ways.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 7

It's not about not being a literal book adaptation - they are just bad movies for me

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Personally I think they ruined the, "one small man can make a difference" aspect of Bilbo, and the fight scenes seem superfluous.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The thing I most dislike is how much the changed the tone from comedy to drama. That and the romance subplot. That was just bad.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I feel they didn't make the forest spooky enough, I loved that bit in the books. The romance was entirely meh tbh.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1) People who expected scene-by-scene recreations are being silly. But I think there's legitimate room to criticize based on things like

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Oh, no doubt. Just saying I like it and not liking it because it wasn't exactly what your nostalgia was hoping for isn't a good reason.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2) uneven pacing, excessive padding, or additions that detract from the spirit of the original story (eg Dol Guldur ok, love triangle bad).

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Dol Guldur does not detract.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

That's why Muon said "Do Guldur ok, love triangle bad".

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Um, that was my point. Some of the additions were good (e.g. Dol Guldur), some were bad (e.g. love triangle).

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Imgur is probably totally gonna overcharge that server.

11 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 2

Just download the torrent and it will be fine

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, not necessarily. Actually, the more people using a torrent/seeding it the better.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The Imgur hug of death.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Imgur is a fart in space compared to other communities. Mediafire should be pretty stable but reddit might affect it a little bit.

11 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

140 million users each month is a fart in space? Sure, there are some bigger communities out there, but imgur is far from small

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hell, it's a top 20 US site and a top 50 worldwide. That said, mediafire is all about their server capacity

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That would be because imgur is the go-to image sharing site. Most people on reddit don't even know there's a community here.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

But I like the hobbit movies as they were :(

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 14

Then enjoy them! The rest of us have shit to do, so we'd rather "go on an adventure" in a mere 4 hours.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So watch them as they were? This is like people complaining about a song remix, the original is still there.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I like them too, but I'd like to see the alternate version.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What's the problem that people have with the original movies?

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

They're hipsters.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 6

it's too long, opposite of LOTR, they had to cram 7 books into 3 films so they had to select important bits

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They don't use their time well, IMO. 7.5 hours and most of the dwarves have barely get any lines, let alone character development. (1)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same thing in the book, but if they are going to extend a story that much, I'd prefer the time was spent on stuff like that. (2)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Part of the problem is that the movies are blunt and unsubtle. Most dialogues are either ultra-dramatic or comic relief, not much else. (3)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For example, when Thorin gets sick in the last movie, it would have been cool to have more scenes with the dwarves reacting to it and (4)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're being pretentious because the movies weren't identical to the books. People can't just enjoy things.

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 8

Nope, absolutely not, please don't generalize. I don't mind the added stuff, I just cringed through almost all of the first 2 movies

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Can't speak for everyone, but my issue is the dump of extraneous info that detracts from *the hobbit* changing the mood of the entire story.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

2/2 The deviations from the book don't bother me as much as that does.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but books are books and movies are movies. Theatrical additions have been added to stories/plays for as long as they've been around.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Fair point, but sometimes it's done in a bad way. For me this has happend with the Hobbit movies imho.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Additions and changes aren't the problem for me. I take issue when it changes the mood and tone of the story they're trying to tell.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can someone please explain him how torrent works?

11 years ago | Likes 120 Dislikes 1

He already knows, he listed the 2 gig rough-cut on torrent sites last week when it first came out.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And while you're at it, explain to him that people stopped letterboxing videos a decade ago. Props for editing but crappy video quality.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah,it fascinates me that even today, some people still fail to use torrents(faster download speeds? Check,Online almost indefinitely?Check)

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I don't because the future is different and scary. I actually made a friend teach me in the same way I teach my dad how to email.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Torrents most certainly do not have faster download speeds than direct downloads. DDLs don't involve uploading so you aren't distributing.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I admit,it may be confirmation bias(DDL through steam are lightning fast),but on a wel seeded torent I can get up to 5-6Mb/s v ~1Mb/s in DDL

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just started to torrent, but I feel I'm playing a dangerous game especially since I don't have virus protection.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

To be honest, I am not an experienced torrenter, I never created one and I stick to one or two websites to get them. (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the most part, with a fairly modern Windows or Mac OS (maybe linux too, not familiar with it), you probably won't get a virus unless [1]

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you do something like click HobbitMovie.exe (and even then, the Os may prevent you from opening it). [2]

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But I'll never even connect to the internet without an Antivirus (Avast works for me).

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know adequate virus protection is free right?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What is your preferred free virus protection?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you use Windows, you should be good with microsoft security essentials/windows defender + malwarebytes.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't even use virus protection anymore and never have trouble. Just don't download from shady sources, and always check the comments.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+1, ALWAYS check the comments. People will let you know if that Taylor Swift album is hiding a trojan.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

handy tip: Don't try to play taylorswift.exe. You can't get a virus from a movie or mp3 (unless you turned data execution prevention off)

Good thing internet piracy is legal in Finland :P

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's only bad if you get caught

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well... no. Seeding just requires some kind of program running in the background, so it often slows your computer down

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

I find the issue is more often it eats up bandwidth. Computer runs fine. Just don't play online games sort of thing.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Yeah true. I guess it just lowers performance in general, even if it's only a little.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Idiot question: How does one go about this encrypting of one's shit? I'm rather new to torrenting.

There are options in most of the torrent clients that allow to force encryption and drop non-encrypted ones. You won't feel the difference.

The quality is pretty crap, to be honest. I'd wait for the version edited from blu-ray rips.
