French Saison Ale

First time milling malt

Steep it

Steeep iiiiiiiit!

Malt extract

Boiling goodness

Spices and hops in at various points in the boil.

Chill out.

Bloomed yeast

Fermentation. Love that krausen.

Bottled!

Another picture of the same finished product because it was weird to not follow up the Spongebob thing.

I love a good saison. My favorite is saison Dupont. Good luck, and keep the good work!

Always upvote bubbling airlocks. Cheers.

Why is the glass so dirty?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

If bubbles stick to the side of the glass it’s not ’beer-clean’. Could be grease or detergent. Tricky to keep beer glasses clean.

Clean your glassware and go all malt.

What yeast @op ?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't remember ?. Not the exact one from the recipe I posted within the top comment, but it was a saison yeast.

They sell beer at the store.

If you make a habit of this invest in a wort chiller =D

Recently found this style. Big fan now. Very nice. That looks awesome

How much for a six-pack? Including shipping

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Clean your glass, man! Or lady!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You could’ve been fermenting turds, I still would’ve upvoted just cuz of sponge Robert

But no mead?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I made beer for a couple of years, it was a fun hobby, but it's still way cheaper, faster and easier to buy quality beer at the store...

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I love brewing. That is a very nice color, good head, too.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The fact that you brew into 22oz instead of 12oz won me over. Fewer bottles. More beer. Nice looking siason, how's it taste?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Eventually I want to update to a keg. Bottling is equal parts fun and tedious.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kegging is so much easier and well worth the price of quarter keg, tank and regulator.

Nice!

Yay, my favorite beer style! As part of my first trip to Europe I made a diversion of several days to go through saison country. So good!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What yeast did you use? Yeast management is the most important part of making a good saison.

Got recipe/process?

That’s a nice grinder. Mine is drill or hand operated. Making the jump to full grain soon?

4 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I don't know if my pot is big enough for full mash. One day. One day.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

You can do "dunk sparge", i.e steep the bag again in a separate vessel. I do this in two stages.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do you break up the malt into multiple portions for that technique?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Been using a big orange water cooler to mash with for years. A 7-10 gal pot is needed for the boil though.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I need a bit more space before I can upgrade to a triple pot setup.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All that work just to make a glass to take pictures of beer in

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Beer was probably good, glass looking eh

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately it’s not a clean glass. Nucleation sites on the side of a glass that means there’s residual something. Source: I’m a brewer1/2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But the beer looks great. Great work @OP. Would love to taste it ??? 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The bubbles sticking to the side? Glass was just run through a dishwasher, any tips?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That means there’s some residual detergent left behind. I always give my glasses a water rinse even if they’re clean. Gets dust//soap out ??

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A half fill of water, a few swishes around to coat the inside, then dump and you’re good to go! Or you can spray it with a sink sprayer, too

What's the best spot to make something like this in? Does it make a lot of odor while it's fermenting? I want to make beer/mead but don't 1

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

want to stink up my house. 2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It can make a yeasty smell but not too bad. It needs to be in a dark spot so you could control odour by choosing your location well.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I ferment in a spare shower if I can, keeps dark, drain in case of overflow, ventilation.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How does it taste? And not that artsy "fruity, spiced notes with a light hops finish" stuff. Put it in words dumb people like me understand.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tastes like beer.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sweet, caramely, bright (not rich like a Guinness), bubbly, and like a little bit of ginger.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That actually sounds pretty tasty. Not a big beer drinker, but I'd try a glass of that!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But how was it?

4 years ago | Likes 141 Dislikes 1

Tasty tasty. Will make this recipe again.

4 years ago | Likes 112 Dislikes 0

Should leave it to mature in the bottles for a couple of weeks. The Saison only gets better with time, the yeast keeps working in there ?

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Agreed, left it in there for three weeks.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do you mind posting the link to the recipe?
