Me irl

I once had a week to write a seven page paper. I waited until the day of, wrote it while in 1-6th hour, and turned it in 7th hour :)

I did my best writing when there was pressure because I procrastinated

You have anxiety issues. When you think of what needs to be done you become very anxious and your brain wants to avoid it.

I’ve literally got 8 days to finish a university assignment, had all month, still haven’t started, probably won’t start tomorrow either.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Gotta wait until the old apathy/panic balance tips, huh? I'm the same.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Writing is just putting your thoughts on paper.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not saying that all procrastinators have ADHD, but I do, and let me tell you it is absolutely an illness that affects every area of my life.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Can confirm.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I stayed up until 4am once finishing off paperwork which was due by 8am the same morning.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is there something unusual about that?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a project manager, I'm sick of this shit. This is why we have daily standups

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would you say you're a....standup guy?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2yrs down for my undergrad, every assignment has been written night before due, lowest I've gotten is B+. They can't tell tbh.

I have a 4 page paper due on my birthday, Friday, and then a 10 page literature review alongside a 7 page theory review on Monday. FML.

What are the dreams like of the bad times?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think it's more about the refinement process. Anyone can take a shit all over the pages and hand it in, but almost all writing benefits >

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

From a second draft or at the very least proofreading.

Have 800 words to write to finish an essay for my MA. it's due in today. ??‍♀️??‍♀️

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What time? 800 words isn’t too bad. It’s like 8 paragraphs.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's done and submitted

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah. 6pm. I just can't focus on this assignment for whatever reason.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Certainly has nothing to do with having good times on Imgur

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a symptom not the cause ?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A symptom of Toomuchfunitis

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did you get it done?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, two hours before the deadline too. ?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good for you! Unfortunately your actions are not up to caliber w/the Elite Procrastinators Club. Our members submit with less than 3 mins.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wrote my entire masters thesis (80 pages) with all the background in 5 days. My data research was earlier, though.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Your master's thesis was only 80 pages? What was it in?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Avian genetics. The majority of work was compiled genetic data, which went into a data repository, and not written. That took forever.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah, okay, yeah, that makes sense! Admittedly, half of mine was filled withe esoteric graphs explaining parametric design and such

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats called executive dysfunction and is a symptom of serious mental health issues.

5 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 38

I'm going to diagnose you with the asshole

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's called procrastination, and if you're not a psychiatrist don't go around diagnosing people with mental disorders.

5 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 3

But was he/she being serious?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

being serious is called "Hedonic dysfunction" and is a symptom of serious mental health issues

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I concur with your diagnosis

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well said!

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's not actually procrastination, but I agree that it's not executive dysfunction either. Source: I have ED and I have ADHD.

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

Thanks for the insight, HorseMcFucker.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why isn't putting something off procrastination?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In this given situation, I would sit down in front of the computer and stare at the blank document, trying to force myself to begin, fail 1)

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

2) to do so for ALMOST 9 years and then complete the task at the last second, hating myself all the way. Is this similar to your experience?

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Diagnosed with ADHD, and that's the same for me. BUT. I've been told that it's my anxiety that causes that, and my ADHD only exacerbates it.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It is for me. Sometimes I even do it with going to sleep...

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Feeling this. My master thesis is due in less than 4 weeks

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

How much have you done?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Text like 12 pages. But research is almost complete and the prototype I programmed is also 90% finished.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pro-tip from those trenches years ago: do NOT wait until the last minute. Do it now. It'll only get worse. As if you didn't know that, haha.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What subject? I've just started a part time publishing MA. Mildly hating my life right now cause I have a full time job, kids and horses.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Information systems. Nice thing is that I write my thesis at work cause it's in cooperation with my emoployer

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very cool. I wish mine was but it isn't. Good luck!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same... I’m halfway through the writing. Still doable but god why did I wait so long before actually writing

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wrote mine the weekend before it was due, you'll be fine. as long as you're careful not to lose your work 6 hours before the due time

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How many pages? I was told 50, spent 4 months to write, then told 100 with a 3 month deadline while working fulltime. Was a blast.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It says 60. But it's ok if it's less. I also had to do some research and programming a prototype. So it's not a pure theoretical thesis.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Huh, mine was 100 before references and appendix. Now I understand why MScs in my program were considered mini PhDs

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Funny thing is my bachelor should have 60 too. I was also surprised about the 60 in the master. Imo in subjects like computer science

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A thesis with a lot of text doesn't make sense anyway. There are papers about internet standard which are like 3 pages and they describe

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Back in the old days, when we just had typewriters, you dreaded fuck ups near the bottom of the page. Hated starting over!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

could be ADHD

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It's not an illness, it's a natural human psychological reaction that some people have trained themselves to overcome. Some not-me people.

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It COULD be a sign of adhd, depression, anxiety, or a number of other executive function disorders. Or it could be bad time management.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or the change to Daylight Savings Time

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Must be a bunch of weirdos.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Procrastination can be a symptom of ADHD. Far from a diagnosis on its own, but the inability to work without extreme pressure is part of it.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This. Look into it @OP if this is really true of you. I'm 30 and just found out I have had ADHD since forever.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do y’all spend your work and leisure time at the same computer sitting on the same chair? Try moving to a different space when you work, 1/

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Have 4 distinct spaces to sleep, relax, exercise, and be productive, and treat the spaces as sacred. It’ll make a difference I promise. 2/2

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Got it, sleep in my bed, exercise in the living room, relax in the bathroom, be productive in the kitchen. That's... That's all my spaces.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What if you're only allotted two spaces, and one is your bedroom?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's my style! Keep up the good "work".

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you heard of Times Newer Roman?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

12 page paper with about 5 pages of content from the quarter for me to weave in. Highest score out of 25 students; twice! It was a hybrid -

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

class of English and Anthropology of religion, so our course work was graded twice: once for English, once by the subject matter expert. I -

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

receivd the highest marks for each. I do my best work under time constraints. Makes me actually be able to concentrate on it.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You must have had plenty of time to write these posts

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See? No-time-constraints strikes again!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good luck man

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wrote a 25 page white paper in a 36 hour marathon. A- from literally the smartest human I've ever known.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Smart because you got that grade

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol idk about all that. I think procrastinating can inspire greatness by way of necessity though

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I must be in Guiness somewhere for procrastination

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an attorney, half of my job is writing 7 page papers that are due in 12 hours.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Definitely a skill you can develop!!

Assuming you actually know the material? Enough time for a nap.

You got this!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you are like me, 94%.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Once I did two assignments the day they were due during the lecture for one of the assignment subjects. Still proud of that one.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why are these sounding like shaggy dog stories?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Once I turned in a paper with the word "Paper" on it and got a B+. It was a contemporary British humor class.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah that's fair

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And now you're a brain surgeon. Yikes!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thankfully just an engineer, less dangerous /more easy to correct a fuckup

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Worst part is I got better than just a pass on both too.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not a paper.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So uh. It's been 9 hours. 3 to go. How's that paper going for ya?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have to design a mall by Wednesday, I haven't started yet. I won't be sleeping for two days lol

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would recommend it has space for shops

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did that a few weeks ago with a paper regarding Hegels Master and Slave dialectic in "phenomenology of spirit". I don't know what I wrote.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But what grade did you get?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I shall be sure to inform you as soon as I get it back. should be any day now. The horror.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

never had to write an essay in my life

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Marine?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

nope lol

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did you get 2ndary Education?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

yeah just graduated from university a year ago

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Strange that not 1 essay's been written in your entire educational process.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He or she didn't say that an essay had never been assigned - just that they never HAD to write it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live in Finland. I intentionally chose an education path with the least written subjects. IT stuff, programming.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

home schooled?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I wrote 9 pages of my senior undergrad thesis the day it was due, along with the bibliography. Oh, and did the research. Got an A-.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And that was after going to the pub and having a few brewskies with my mates

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 pages isn't much of a thesis to be fair.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's why it was A-, not A

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It ended up being close to 30 pages, when I finished. But I did a huge portion of it the day it was due.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ahh ok that makes more sense. And yeah powering through the last half to third is very doable once research and notes are done.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have now passed inspection

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had a poli-sci class. Final was an 8-page essay with 8 references, good enough to submit to their journal. I did that in ~6 hrs. B+

5 years ago | Likes 151 Dislikes 0

I also went to the University of Florida!

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

And you're on Imgur...

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

1) Not sure what you're implying. It was 100-level, not my maj, back in '16, and I transferred the very next semester.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So I don't have a copy of it, don't know if it got published, and never cared enough to follow up on it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But we suspect malfeasance - warrants an investigation by the Board of Regents.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to have to do these 'write alongs' that were extremely strict formatted synopsis, thoughts, and dictionary of words you didn't 1/

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

know for my freshman year in high school. The big thing that every upper classman complained about was the Odyssey. You can an entire 2/

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

semester to do this for EVERY chapter in the Odyssey. They're supposed to be teaching our stupid 14 year old brains time management 3/

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

well I waited until the Sunday, the day before it was due, and did the entire thing in about 22 hours. I got a C. Worth it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

8 references? That seems low? Is that normal for humanities?

5 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 0

My part in a 5 person research thesis has 26 references on the final document for my alone, and we collected our own data. So no.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and on the second page ...

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really like that we're all such nerds we are discussing the topic of sources!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We should not be revealing our sources!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For my papers and thesis the rule of thumb was a reference per page at minimum.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wished I was that far south. That winter I hit black ice and crashed my truck in a ditch.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a strong feeling imgur is putting comments in the wrong spot again...

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No, that’s not normal. My shit was like a minimum of 20, and I’m in undergrad.

5 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 1

She knew there wouldn't be a lot of applicable sources about AI, and it was a 100-lvl course. I dunno what to tell you besides that.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

"I dunno what to tell you besides that"

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 12

100 LVL course would explain it

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It was a 100-level, and she admitted that -- depending on what exact topic you came up with -- there probably wouldn't be many sources.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My background was in biochem so would be referencing things as fact most sentances lol

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Understandable. Humanities are a lot more fast and loose with "facts", and it's not like there's a lot of academic literature on AI ethics.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was gonna guess it was an intro class. Usually the higher you go the more you need.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds normal to me. My college usually wanted 4-6 for humanities papers

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I usually have 15-50 sources, and 80-150 footnotes, essays 10-20 pages. Philosophy in Germany here.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What % of those do you make up the last minute?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had 19 reference to apply for ethics for half my data collection. My report for publication is looking at 40+

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What happened to the other half?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

References* wish you could edit comments! But I am in environmental science and I imagine you want as much proof as possible its supported

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

for me in BA history, for about 8 pages you'd have to aim for 40ish. Depending on specifics you could get away with maybe 30.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That seems about right for history. Hell, for another 100-lvl class that was about the later Middle Ages, we had to give sources in exams.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Redbull, coffee, or adderal?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

20 minute power naps can do you for a couple days in your 20's.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was a veteran by then, so I could sustain myself entirely by good ol' stress and maybe a smoke break or two.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Impressive.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you're stressed enough, you can stay awake for multiple days at a time. Ask a war vet about the longest they've stayed awake in the field

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And it took the professor less than a minute to give it an F.

5 years ago | Likes 652 Dislikes 13

Sure, if you’re shit at writing

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

honestly professor got 150 papers to grade you really think he is going to do in depth analysis just regurgitate and move on with your life

Diamonds are made under pressure

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thank you for that mantra

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that assumes i think nothing of it until i write. i would often spend the time leading up to writing thinking about what to write for hours

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

O ye, of little faith.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and short papers

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wrote a paper 2 hours before class once. Prof gave it an A+ and said I should consider publishing it. I told him he had low expectations

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All you did was write down things he said and believed.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Given how niche the topic was, I'll disagree. But writing papers wasn't common at my college (art school) so he def had low expectations

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a paper to write in 2 years. Got scrapped 2 times due to leader changes, who forced me to 100% change my focus. New work was written

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

In 6 hours right before the deadline. I got an A- from a hurry of 3 independent examiners. I didn't even read the book

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

But you did write it - that gave you an edge

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yea I once scored highest marks on a midterm paper I did between classes the day it was due because I thought it was due the next week.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So in your mind, you were doing it a week in advance?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah I found out in my earlier class from someone who was in both that it was due that day

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly, not really. I really do read every word of my students essays. And honestly, some students work fine at last minute. But not all.

That makes you one of the good ones and I messed around like that less if I knew the prof was actually paying attention

If this were consistently true, I would have procrastinated far less. It was fairly common for the opposite to occur.

Wrote all but my final paper for my major the day before it was due. Never got less than a B.

You gave it two days

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

You don't, but it does

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

why do you say i don't ? i am lazy as fuck and work well under pressure, doing stuff late really works for me, i got my best grades that way

I'm playing with words

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I have never and I do mean never failed an assignment I bothered to do and I procrastinate like a mother fucker.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I've failed tons of assignments by simply not doing them tho. Flunked out of college twice doing that shit but then I went back and fixed it

Hence the name "Reload..."

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah that was my XBL name back on the original xbox. A few years before college anyway.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same! Dropped out twice before they could fail me. I started all over & graduated with a 3.6GPA. Never overcame the procrastination, though

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lol yeah me either. The procrastination wasn't the problem for me it was the crippling depression I was assigned as a millennial.

Right? Diamonds are made under pressure

5 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 0

You ever clench your cheeks so hard a diamond comes out?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, it was under my tongue

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For real though sometimes ill read back through after it's graded and I'm like wtf I wrote this? No way I wrote this. this is gold.

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I'd have the opposite happen sometimes. "I wrote this? This is garbage. How did he not fail this paper."

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Because he waited til the last minute to grade it.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

he thought "nah, this good enough to pass" rather than read a new version of it later

The opposite of what - an F? Is that a D?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m going to assume you’re being genuine: If an F is the mark of utter failure, the opposite is an A (great success) in U.S. education

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That assumption was your 1st mistake. I like the phrase "fairly common" though. I think I'll start using it. No meaning, but sounds nice.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh and also what was my second mistake? Your “1st mistake” comment has me in deep suspense!

Hoo doggie, someone is real cranky. Does being wrong about something (a project completed under strenuous conditions cannot be successful)
