This is a manga series written by the half japanese, half american former USMC Anastasia Moreno in collaboration with the artist Nogami Takeshi.
Nipponese high school girl Yumi Nagumo upon graduation dreams of becoming the president of the United States of Amerigo (she's not the brightest but very determined)
Anastasia died on July 12, 2015 from cancer, having translated 78 chapters along with her own footnotes the last of which only 3 days before (former Marines are apparently not phased by minor things like dying of a terminal illness) if this is well received I'll upload a few more chapters a week
Ongoing Japanese version here http://sai-zen-sen.jp/special/4pages-comics/marine-yumi currently over 190chapters
Collection of the translated chapters extracted from Anastasia's website before it went down http://bato.to/comic/_/comics/marine-corps-yumi-r13277 (requires an account, Bato.to is a fairly legit site).

FP edit: How the hell did this get so popular?

Hells, yeah. Semper Fidelis.
StealTow
I don't understand slice of life.
Masticause
I had to do PCP, sucked watching the people i went in with graduate before me. But it was needed, the recruiters lied about my pre-fitness
EzekielsRage
A LIEING RECRUITER!?! DID YOU REPORT HIM? lol
tdpole
There's no such thing as a former Marine, and no Marine dies, they just get promoted!
dmendez199
Marine corps boot is that strenuous
LordMagnus
yes
BozoThePie
"Please read left to right" I guarantee you that 90% of people viewing this did not bother to read a single word.
StudiumScientiae
My guy just graduated from boot camp.. favoriting to show him later when he gets back from combat training +1
washout
What is this garbage
LordSatanHimself
Don't be an ass. Someone is working incredibly hard to make this.
washout
Working hard to make terrible sexist anime garbage, find something better to do.
LordSatanHimself
Are there any anime shows that are like this. Seems like something that would be fun to watch.
teslathemaxpuppy
The test is the IST at boot they do the PFT which is three miles instead of a mile and a half but it dont matter love the comic
VolcanoDrill
My buddies who fought back in Nam will understand
Nichomon
This has the amount of blatant falsities, and spot on slang that I would expect from an anime/manga. Good job.

mikewritesbooks
that just brought up flashbacks of being in both PCP and MRP in boot camp. '94-'98 were not the best years of my life

as a former marine there's so much shit wrong with this
rugger
As a current Marine the skivvy shirts being the wrong color bothers me.
ICantThinkOfAU
I was thinking this can't be right, these tests are lower standards than the regular British Army's entry tests, let alone our Marines
ThePowerOf42
This comic pleases Slaanesh
NotACanadian
Do female Marines also eat crayons?

I missed going to pcp by something like 5 seconds on the run ... 10 years later no fucking way I'd pass
ThatOneGuyPablo
When my dad was in boot camp, his buddies stole him out of the hospital so that he wouldn't get stuck in the "broke dick platoon"

92sobbinghorses
Interesting take on bootcamp. Doesn't really capture the smell of being dirty-nasty recruits, but you'd have to experience it for yourself
SupineStar
She did though, which is why she wrote this
cheshirecat00
I wonder if recruiters are going a different route to pick up new recruits by using anime, I can only imagine the poor trap the weebs are in
doomladen
Dunno what her actual motivations were, but from what I've read she enjoyed her service and wanted to share her enthusiasm with others.
cheshirecat00
I actually appreciated the story it's nice entertainment,& you get an in depth view of female military life, but knowing recruiters 1/2
cheshirecat00
I wouldn't put it past them 2/2
Fulminology
I thought the marine run for women was 3 miles in 33 mins at minimum.
CloudMephisto
This is about the initial physical fitness test that is done the first week of boot camp not the PFT that is 3 miles.
skullskaft
Thats sounds easy. But as they said in swedish military. "Either you're in shape before enlisting, or we make you get in shape"
eadanke
crap, 2 in 22 is fine, but I doubt I could do 3 in 33 with a gun to my head.
BringBackAltoidsCitrusSours
You would think, but the physical conditioning they put you through is amazing. By the end I could run a 3 mile in 22 minutes
IGarfunkledYourMother
Which is still not that fast.
BringBackAltoidsCitrusSours
Oh yeah I know That I still need to improve but 22 min is better than 33 min. I was just saying that it is possible.
IGarfunkledYourMother
Oh, I getcha.
BringBackAltoidsCitrusSours
The thing with Recruit training is anyone can do it, you just got to be willing to and not get injured and/or kicked out
rugger
The run for initial strength test is 1.5 miles that you have to do in 15 min or less.
AnotherMediocreUser
In the UK, for Royal Marines it's 2.4 km (1.5 miles) in 12 minutes on a 1% incline, then you have a 10 second rest after which you must (1/2
AnotherMediocreUser
run another 2.4 km on a 1% incline in 10 minutes.
rugger
Bleh.
Actor117
These requirements are just to be able to begin boot camp, graduation reqs are higher.
NotSoMuch
Ah! I was gonna say.
Actor117
Yeah the starting reqs are just to make sure you are strong enough to handle the basics. The first month of boot is all PT basically.
ManSpiderp
what the fuck
ShaTiK
Japan
0MockingBird0
Actually, I think this is a Manhwa so Korean.
ShaTiK
I don't see how it's Korean since the post states that author is half-Japanese while artist's name is distinctly Japanese too.
0MockingBird0
Manhwa's are usually colored that's why (and the art style looks very similar), though looking at it again, your right, its prob a manga.
doomladen
Dunno who told you all that, it's plain wrong. Manga = Japanese, Manhwa = S. Korean, Manhua = chinese, colour or medium are cross boundary
mmaatt8
Is that really how the marines hold for sit ups? Army holds the ankles, forces you to use more abs and less legs.
dilbobaggins
Because USMC does crunches, not sit ups. We do pull-ups instead of pushups. And we run three miles. The Army also leaves their men behind.
sweetpotato21
It not really a sit up it more of a crunch
Chpgmr
In high school no one helps you.
Musicosity
But if you fail, they don't kick you out of school.
Chpgmr
And you do it on gym floor, not grass. Your lucky if you get a mat.
ninjax247
In the AF we also the ankles or put our knees on the feet. also we only get 1 minute for sit ups and push ups, do you guys really get 2?
onikame
The air force has the most bullshit pt test out of them all.
Musicosity
That's a pretty ignorant statement. I can easily max the Army PT test, but only get 99.7 on AF standards.
onikame
Its bullshit. Not easy. But its only hard cause of the rules and the broken ass point system. So you said im ignorant then agreed with me.
Nichomon
2 minutes for, 65 min ( i think) with a max of 100. Its the easiest part of the test.
mmaatt8
45 min, 80 max. It's stupid. We can't put our knees on feet though. It still helps people. Army is changing up the PT testing tho
BringBackAltoidsCitrusSours
Not to mention it's the IST and not the PFT
EzekielsRage
The crunches section of the PFT is a joke, I never had a Marine do less than the max in the allotted time, source I was that POG
SandpaperCock
Even my fat ass could do that, it's not a merit - if I can do it then anyone should be able to, lowest common denominator and whatnot.
OhLurkOverThere
Go up enough to touch arms to thighs and down far enough to tap your shoulder blades on the deck.
feeltheice
I had like 5" of movement for that requirement.
zuzutheninja
Shit, the navy we're held by ankles but, "you didn't go all the way down for like 30 of them but I'm counting then anyways" thanks buddy
EzekielsRage
My pet peeve:There is no way I could monitor everyone just do them correctly and give me any number you want or else I looked bad at my job.
Piefromhell
Wait some poor sailor didnt cheat on the prt pfff sucks to be them.
EzekielsRage
I copied and pasted my other comment because it applies but yeah expecting everyone to be honest about that section was a waste of time.
pptninja
If your not cheating your not trying

My pet peeve:There is no way I could monitor everyone just do them correctly and give me any number you want or else I looked bad at my job.
IWrestledABearAndWon
I've always felt that the push ups and sit ups for the Army and Marines is a joke. 2 minutes? The Air Force only gives you 1 minute to do it
Qwikslvr
Air Force run is easier though. And it's where the most points are allotted.
EzekielsRage
Unless things have changed since 2006 the Marines didn't have a push up requirement.
LittleRichardTickler
Things did change last year. Push-ups optional but you can only get a Max of 75 pts as opposed to pullups. Gotta do 23 pullups now too.
EzekielsRage
Optional? Is it either that or pull ups?
ThatGuyWhoThinksEveryoneIsAPineapple
Anyone got any tips for running? Going on PRAC for the British Parachute Regiment in a few months, need to run 1.5 miles in 9m 40s.

EzekielsRage
My D.I.'s advice "Just Run Faster, anyone who doesn't improve their time will have their nose in the dirt" worked for us
ICantThinkOfAU
When I first started training for the entry tests I could only jog for 7 minutes, MASSIVELY out of shape I was. I started off on a 1/lots
ICantThinkOfAU
treadmill and built myself up by 30 seconds longer each day (pro-tip, do not run literally every day like I did, you'll fuck your shit 2/
ICantThinkOfAU
Up), once is for myself up to being able to run at a decent pace for 20-30 minutes I started increasing the speed by 0.2-0.5mph every day,3/
ICantThinkOfAU
Which got me down to the right time, and then after that I left the treadmill and started running over rougher terrain, because treadmills4/
ICantThinkOfAU
Are far easier than real running... it seemed to work for me. Easy to push yourself when it's just small increments, and they add up fast5/5
