That little girl was so sweet and gentle with him. I also really appreciate the cat owner giving that little girl an interaction of a lifetime. That's a core memory right there.
I have no evidence for it but from what I've seen having a cat they know what a child is and their tolerance towards children is way higher than towards adults. Cat with a child: "This human is smol and stupid, I should be patient and maybe ask my human to make them stop bothering me." Cat with an adult: "Touch me again and I'll cut you."
My cousin had a one person cat that would not tolerate ANYONE except for her. And this was a BIG cat, the kind that got into fights with raccoons and won. But when she had her daughter, the cat would allow himself to be picked up and snuggled, miserable, because she was his human's daughter. Gentle as a lamb with her.
Depends on the cat: just like anyone they each have their own personality. One cat will be super chill like this, another will be all “this human’s tiny: I can take her!” and then beat the ever loving shit out of the child’s hair.
Yeah, as much as I love cats, some of them are just straight up assholes. Had one of those in my life once. He was MY little asshole though, and I loved him dearly.
