Interesting concept. If you replaced every brain cell one by one with exact replicas, but synthetic, would it still be the same person.

If you replace a object with another object would it be the same object? No, same =/= identical =)
acrobatman
technically no, but if its a good enough copy, only the original would care
DrowsyDude
tekla has an interesting monologue about that in wolfenstein
HeavenPunisher69
What about how cells in our bodies are replaced over and over for the rest of our lives

Dammit, my brain is still contemplating whether good and evil actually exist or if they are just social constructs. Now i have to deal >

1) Depends on how you define consciousness and identity. For me, I'd say no. But I also believe that each action/experience/memory creates
2) a new and unique being/conscious. I.e. -> me from yesterday is a different entity compared to the me from today
Frostdriver
At what point do you become a "clone" of yourself?&then does a clone have the same rights as a person? 1/2
bart2pl
well, i don't know what about brain cells, but for every other one if you are 21 year old there is preety much no "original" cell in your
body, that you were born with
The movie "The 6th Day" touches on this topic a bit.
ImHereToExplainTheJoke
Depends on the purpose of the clone, if you ask me. I think clone gets no rights while the original lives.
Frogapus
That's one of the issues with transporters in Star Trek, right?
RageCage42
Yes - the person who materializes believes it's the same "you" that dematerialized on the pad...but we only hear that person's opinion. 1/2
If the original "you" didn't dematerialize but the destination "you" materialized anyway, which person is "you"? Whose opinion matters? 2/2
AgamemnonsMemes
You'd never get me into one of those things. I'm one of THOSE people
Holograms?
AriPlanetLord
If they have the same memories I wanna go with yes. Great thought experiment this is.
So by that logic, if you made another person with the exact same neuron connections and memories, then both would be "the same person" :/
Belckan
No, the process of adding synthetic neurons to the network gradually would allow you to maintain consciousness. That would be just a copy.
PleasantPeasantPheasant
Yes but only till the point where they split up and start making individual memories thoughts and ideas. They are only the same for a moment
alternatereality543
I would say they both would be the same person at Inception, but after that self-awareness takes over and they become different.
Yeah, then they really could go fuck themselves!
FragrantViolation
Only if the other ones existence ceased at the exact time and space of the other one.
