Fun facts about "Tangled."

Rapunzel's eyes are the largest of any human Disney character. They're even bigger than those of Maximus and he's a horse.

Maximus and Pascal were both voiced by the legendary Frank Welker, who voiced Abu and Rajah in Aladdin, Megatron in the old Transformers cartoons, Dr. Claw in Inspector Gadget, and many others.

Maximus is armed with a Roman gladius in 1tth Century Europe because, well, his name's Maximus. This was a spur of the moment idea from one of the directors who thought it would be a funny homage to Russell Crowe's Gladiator.

Flynn's costume (and his name) are primarily inspired by Errol Flynn in The Sea Hawk, and to a lesser extent in The Adventures of Robin Hood.

Rapunzel's hair is 60 to 70 feet long and would weigh about 60 lbs (27.27 kg). She must go through conditioner like crazy (in Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure, aka Tangled: the Series, she gets her magic hair back).

The lantern Rapunzel floats back up into the air is the only one with the royal emblem, and thus the same one sent into the air by her parents, the king and queen.

The castle city of Corona is based on Le Mont-Saint-Michel on the Normandy Coast.

Le Mont-Saint-Michel was also Peter Jackson's main inspiration for Minas Tirith in The Lord of the Rings.

The countryside throughout the film was inspired by the Rocamadour region of France.

The male lead character went through by far the most iterations before the directors were happy. They originally wanted him to be a large, muscular farmer named Bastion. This was eventually dropped when they felt he would seem too dumb. They ultimately gave the large muscular build to the Stabbington Brothers, the two hoods who help Flynn steal the crown.

Bastion's basic appearance would later go on to become Kristoff in "Frozen."

Jin Kim, who worked on Emperor's New Groove, Tarzan, Bolt, The Princess and the Frog, and many others, spent years working with different concepts and designs.

Ultimately, the directors decided that the male lead should not be based on any one person physically (Aladdin's face is based on that of Tom Cruise; Prince Eric of The Little Mermaid is based mainly on John Stamos). They decided that after Rapunzel came out looking cute and adorable, the male lead would have to be a dashing swashbuckler type.

They finally called all the women working on the film, about 30 of them, into a couple of meetings and told them to bring pictures of every attractive male celebrity, from all the way back in the black and white days.

The directors said the meetings were quite uncomfortable if you were a man, because no one was safe. Eyes were cut from one picture and pasted onto another, the jawline from one, the eyebrows from another, and flaws were pointed out in every single male celebrity in every picture.

Finally, after every woman's input had been written down, Jin Kim sketched what you see above. Director Byron Howard stated, "We created the ultimate man," then went home to his husband and said, "Tell me this guy doesn't look sexy."

There were plans to arm him with either a rapier or a bow, but these were scrapped since he would just have become Robin Hood, and they decided to have him wield the frying pan.

The artists used computer-generated imagery combined with traditional hand-drawn animation, but then used non-photorealistic rendering to make the entire film look like a painting. The technology to do this wasn't quite there yet when production began which is the main reason the film cost so much.

It is officially Disney canon that Rapunzel is the cousin of Anna and Elsa of Frozen.

In Frozen 2, a geographical map shows a date of 1840 for the shipwreck of Anna and Elsa's parents. This means "Frozen" takes place in July of 1843, and "Tangled" takes place in Spring of 1843.
