When the restaurant closes, GTFO

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The food comes out pretty fuckin fast at 5 till close.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The wife and I were looking for a place to eat on Saturday just after 9, and they were all closing at 10... we went to Wendy's

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work in a kitchen, people walk in when the close sign is up and they even find their own table.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My husband never worked restaurant/retail- so he doesn't GET why I don't want to walk in ANYWHERE after an hour before close

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

An hour for a party of two isn't bad. 5-10 minutes before closing is infuriating.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Even worse retail...oh you close at 10? But it's 9:57 I just want to run in and grab 900 things and have to call my bank from my phone..

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I'll Have the steak well done and then I'm going to grab the tab look at it and sit around for 40 minutes drinking water before I pay.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And ask for lime with your water so they have to go to the bar to get it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would've done it like 9:00 stop serving dine-ins, 9:40 stop taking any more takeout orders, 10:00 gtfo.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This happens at all retail too, I work at a grocery store and I guy got belligerent when he was told we were closing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I lie to the customers. I tell them the register stops working 5 minutes after closing time.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i was the only driver closing at work and one night 4 delivery orders come in the 10 minutes, tried to call the last two and say it's (1)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

gonna be more than an hour but you can come pick it up in 15 minutes, still wanted delivery...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had a lady come in 10 minutes before you close. "Google says you close at 1am." Checked google it says 11pm...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honest mistake?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd like to think that, but she seemed like the lying type.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Used to be a waitress had a big nion sign that said open or closed on it still doesn't stop people trying to come in

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I worked at a country club pool and 15 minutes before we are shutting down ???? ???? ???? ????

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You have had your food spit in at least 3 times.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have been in a situation where I didnt have a choice... I said "I know I am here at closing, I eat fast and tip 40%"

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did they give you a complimentary hand job then?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same was starving in the middle of nowhere basically said gimmie whatever is fast ill hook it up on the tip sorry sorry CanadianX10 sorries

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That feel when you've done your preclose and have more than half of the line wrapped up and flipped. THEN THIS HAPPENS FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well done please and can we get a round of waters and separate checks. Thanks

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

As a chef, there's a special place reserved in hell for these people.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't like going late anyway. Service quality drops.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

We meet again. This kitchen isn't big enough fer the both of us.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hell, the bar isn't big enough for the two of us. Admittedly, it's a really small bar.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I regret coming here and seeing how many people don't understand why not patronizing a closing business is a thing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Could be like the crappy restaurant where I live. "Open" till 11, stops letting people in at 9, stops serving at 9:30, staff leaves 9:45.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

We have places around us where if you ask when they stop serving, they say "it depends on business." So it could be 8, it could be 11.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who cleans up?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Chairs are on unoccupied tables by 8:30

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was awful in fast food. Doors close at ten, drive thru still open. People come in and grab a table at 9:55. I can't ask them to leave /1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cafe I worked at, hot food stopped at 1800, closed at 1900, staff had to be out by 1915. Not allowed to clean until customers are gone.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can't ask them to leave, have to explain to management why we have to stay late, can't not clean. Cleaning takes 45min anyway.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, 45min to do a half-decent job. Then management wonder why the place isn't spotlessly clean in the morning.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dining room closer isn't allowed to vacuum whilke guests are in the building. Still has to leave at 10:30. Gotta squeeze vacuum in with /2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All the drive through and kitchen closing duties. Don't get out until half past time to clock out. Get yelled at next day for leaving late

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Welcome to chain or corporate food service. You're fired. Last check is in the mail. Not being a dick just kidding. I live your life too.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This kinda was the case at the drive thru. Work lunch side at Friday's now and nothing there can break my chill. Nothing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who has arrived at Olive Garden 20 minutes until closing at least 3 times, I'm so sorry and I love y'all at OG.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I've never worked in food service, but as a decent human being with common sense, I understand this is a shitty thing to do.

8 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 5

Most places wait until the last order the last meals of the day make the place money. And if the person comes back even better.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Like if restaurants would just say they close an hour before they do this whole problem goes away...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Truth

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

1) I've owned a restaurant. A good portion of people that do this are costing me money unless they are eating and drinking lots. Then I give

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 3

2) bonuses to my employees if they were good costumers. If not it pisses me off

8 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

If they wear good costumes you give your employees bonuses?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Ahaha ha that too

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We had people stay long past closing, we started vacuuming and putting the chairs on the tables and they still didn't get the hint.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They probably did and just didn't care. People are entitled dicks sometimes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The owner eventually had to ask them to leave.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

As a former cook we are expected to be ready to leave at 10 so it's annoying when you think you are leaving at close and there until 1030.

8 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 3

Part of the job still annoying

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Sure, just cleaned the kitchen, totaled the registers, so 3 buckets extra crispy, and a litre of cola?

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Just put down the sanitizer in all my surfaces that needs to air dry, here have a walk in table of 6 that wants a full 3 courses

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As a bouncer, I feel your pain

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now bounce, bounce. I SAID COME ON BOUNCE

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

then close 30min early...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

I don't control the time the place closes

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Corporate places. Have to close on time. Lock somebody out with a Minute to spare and you could be in trouble. Happened to me several times

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that sounds like poor business practice..

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

That sounds like ALL business practice for corporate or chain restaurants. Ya ever work at one? It's about money.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

if they make money seating and serving the people at 955. guess what.. YOU DONT STOP WORKING AT 10. YOU DON'T ACTUALLY "CLOSE" at 10

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 7

Depends if the definition of closing is 'no longer taking tables' or 'gtfo'

8 years ago | Likes 265 Dislikes 8

*door is locked 30 min after the sign says we close* people still want to be let in since they see customers inside.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I believe Every situation is Gtfo

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Restaurants aren't stores so you can't really have a "gtfo" time considering they normally let paying customers take all the time they need

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah we do. We're not going to ask you to leave until maybe 15/20 minutes after closing. But we make sure everyone who comes in in the 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

last 2 hours we're open is aware of when we close so they can decide whether or not that gives them enough time 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's wild I've never heard of that. Where you from?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Uk

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I always pay for like 30%-40% tips and say a good sorry for the waiter. I hate to come near the closing time but sometimes I have to do this

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 6

As an italian waiter, for that tips, i would be glad to wait for you

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

1) As a previous restaurant owner i respect that. Most people I dealt with were like that. I mostly let people have fun. Gave my workers

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2) bonuses when the had to stay late and I was always there hanging with them sharing som beers

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good thought, when im unsure I ring ahead or check their site , or turn up early and don't be a w**k pheasant

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

I believe I speak for all restaurant employees, i appreciated you. Thank you.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Weak pheasant? Wank pheasant? Work pheasant? Just asking for my pheasant friend

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Wank pheasant strikes the ear best.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I wish restaurants would post both times (like "we stop seating at 9, close the doors at 10")

8 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

Could just assume that you should give leeway to any business at least a half hour before closing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I do, but many don't and it would be nice to clear up what the closing time means so waitstaff don't have to stay later than they should

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed but regardless no staff in a restaurant can leave until everything is stocked and cleaned so shift ends when everything is done

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Where I work we do. In that we have our opening times and clearly state 'we stop taking tables an our before closing'.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Used to be a waitress. We did we put closing time of the kitchen and the restaurant its self online and a sign on the door doesn't stop them

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

I have to tell people time and time again when we stop frying chicken at our Deli and also what time we close said chicken case. Every, Day.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just refuse to serve them? I don't understand. Is the policy to cave in and fire up the ovens again?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I refused a few. If they don't spend money I lose it in labour costs

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My old boss never cared about his staff he always made us serve them

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If kitchen closes at 9:30 they can drink a fuckton of water till 10

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would definitely eat at a restaurant that posted this policy! Unfortunately, "the customer is always right" policies lead to so much abuse

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's pretty common where I live for drinks to be going till 10-11 but kitchen closing at 9-9:30. Order food before then and you're good

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That sucks. I would hope, at least, that posting both times gives staff/managers more credibility to turn people away after a certain time

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've learned that in any business really, no one reads signs. Doesn't matter how many or where you put them. Customers never read.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

This...fucking this at the store I work at. "Caution: Hot" TWO SIGNS "Ouch! That's hot!" *points to sign* "Oh yeah oops" /facepalm

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nobody does. I write software—users click “delete”, click “yes, really”, then get mad that their shit’s gone. This is why we add “undo”.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We had 6 signs from the door to the register that the card reader was down and we still had someone complain and say we should put a sign up

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

we serve drip coffee where I work. For a few weeks we couldn't use the water for it and we had like 4 signs up, SO MANY PEOPLE asked still

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You stop serving at 10. Ask anyone who has ever closed a restaurant.

8 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 7

Going in to a sit down restaurant 10 minutes before close is a dick move.

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 6

It really is, I wouldn't trust the food if you do this... Trust me from working in it

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

not if they seat you and take your order...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

No its not...

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Is it though?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 28

I still work in F&B. Get another job if you'll get mad at a customer coming in at 955. You know what you signed up for.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Yes. Yes it is.

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 2

If you've never worked in a job like that you're opinion is pretty worthless to be fair. It literally hurts your soul.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

I never really cared. Even after I cleaned the whole kitchen I didnt mind cooking for another table. They generally tipped better too

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Still confusing, 9:55 is ok to arrive and order and leave around 10:50?

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 3

Yes. Or it should be. Some restaurants that close at 10 or whatever will just stop seating people at 915 or whatever.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Whatever.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is usually plenty of closing duties to do at the end of a night, if you work in a fairly busy restaurant. Take the table and STFU. ;)

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 31

But how many people will bitch if you start cleaning up while their still there? You're underestimating the selfishness of people.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

There has been a more than you can imagine. People feel the are entitled when they show up 5 minutes to close .

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is, but the staff will hate you. They have to stay (yes, all of them) until every customer leaves. I don't go an hour before close.

8 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 4

In the restaurant i worked it was me and one sefer at closing. So, yeah I guess all two of us had to stay

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

God I feel old, but who the hell eats so late at night at someplace that isn't a 'my life is spiraling out if control' restaurant ?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I recognize a fellow restaurant industry veteran when I see one. Same here, I'd never set foot in the door within an hour before closing.

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

Depends where. I went to an Olive garden once 2 mins before closing. They said as long as we're in the door by 10:00 it's fine and

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

They were friendly the whole time. They didn't mind. But yeah, most places aren't like that.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

YMMV, but when I cooked I really didn't mind the last minute tables, so don't believe the others 100%

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

"They didn't mind." They hated you, like actually wished you harm. Trust me on that.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

And you believed that? You thought totally disposable entry lvl people working in a corporate style restaurant woulda spoke up 2 be martyred

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0
