So, I kept doing the thing!...still

Just another update on my project from a few weeks back.

A few weeks ago I showed you guys the cleaning products I had formulated. These is my babies.

My day job is as a formulation chemist and a R&D Technician for a large company. I make, test, formulate, develop, etc household fragrances, candles, cleaning products and more.

On the cleaning chemical side...hardly anything is green and EVERYTHING generates waste. It made me sad.

I started with some prototypes, and you guys showed me a lot of love

I made fragrance and color free cleaning chemicals that were stronger and greener than most chemicals in the stores.

My window, dish, all purpose and degreaser.

I packaged them...shittily

My shitty prototypes brought you guys to the yard and they were like...everyone's better than yours...

Screw it, you guys showed me a BUNCH of encouragement.

I kept on with my shittastic prototypes

I'm still working with packaging at the moment, but that's going to all clear up once my kickstarter funds come through.

I started designing packaging

After getting some legal lockdown I started packaging up my products into envelopes. These tiny ketchup packets of cleaners make a sixteen ounce bottle. You tear open, add two cups or 430g of water to your bottle, or just add the chemical then top it off if you have a correct sized bottle. This is 1.5g of plastic per packet versus the 100+g in a plastic bottle and trigger sprayer. It all comes with your labels, safety data, and a little pair of gloves if you have sensitive skin!

Those guys working on trash traps for the ocean will have a lot easier of a job if we can stop adding to the mess.

I had some more ideas

Biodegradable COMPOSTABLE sponges that don't use bleaching, colors or chemicals to process. Loofah...Love my Loofah.

Neat fact: Did you know they can't recycle trigger sprayers? Too many types of plastic and metal bits to go through the machines. They end up in landfills :< Reuse one. They last forever.

More shitty prototypes and shitty layouts

We tried so hard making things look nice and clean

Finito!

We're almost there. We're working on getting a better plastic for the packets and have it come printed to save money

We sent out some sample kits

People LOVED them. We were thrilled...no more reformulating on my part!

We took pictures.

We got our asses a logo

Look us up on facebook? Keep an eye out for our indiegogo coming soon?

Cat tax?

I put my cat in an owl costume...She enjoyed it.

https://www.facebook.com/EcoChemSupply/ Give our facebook some sugar?

Loofahs make craptastic sponges. Scourers? Fine. Sponges? HELL no.

About the trigger sprayers lasting forever: I ran one over with a car yesterday. It's not going to make it.

I'm a freelance animator - if and when you have a marketing budget I'd love to make you a kick-ass advert or explainer video. Great job!

Like us on Facebook, we'll figure something out

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah well, i did my taxes all by myself. this is cool tho. ill look into it when im not broke.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can do your own taxes? Genius! +1

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bought of the sample kits! Shittily packed and all, it wad awesome. Looking forward to the kickstarter

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Oh and @OP... A dryer sheet replacement that doesn't cause cancer. I use Dr. mercola wool balls right now

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Working on it, actually

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sweet, but work on the logo. This one communicates toxic waste and nukes.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We only really use the middle part

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey, are you still doing this, because I would love to get some of these products? I'm in the UK btw.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bet having access to cleaning supplies is really helpful when you sneeze, pee, shart, and start your period at the same time.

Touche'

Please read or listening to the book positioning. It's a fundamental marketing text. You have a great product but it must be positioned.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This project was dropped

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And there wasn't any fallout from your employer? Since its a product for the same industry you'd think there would be issues.

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

She already talked to her employer and got the okay. :3

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

How do these compare to Ecolab products? Especially their marine ones? I'm asking for a..friend...yeah, a "friend"...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm not comparing these to other products. Fun fact, if they didn't work, nobody'd sell them. I'm just touting green/cheap/effective/easy.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hey @OP @Cyocyo , you guys should make some real Bio toilet papers. Your idea is awesome im from Québec I want these stuffs right now

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's called reusable toilet paper. It exists.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree with previous commenter - I thought it was EC CHEM. You need to make that atom more like an O. But upvotes for your green efforts!

9 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 1

it's the shit printer. The T-shirts came out great.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Did you hire a designer to do the logo? As a designer, the branding makes a huge difference in how your product is received.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

IMO it would look more distinguished and like an "O" if you just bold the lines of the atom a bit more to clarify it. Good luck! :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately even in the logo sample you showed it looks a bit like EC CHEM (or EC*CHEM). Anyone reading it will figure it out in a bit >>

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

but since you're still in the early phases of branding it might be something you want to look at :)

Any chance of making a clothing detergent sans optical brighteners? Might be a huge market if you can do it cheaply. Military uniforms (1)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Have to b washed in detergent without optical brighteners and the stuff on the markets these days are stupidly expensive. Just an idea (2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cheer and Charlie's Laundry Soap laundry powders both lack optical brighteners or oxygen bleach and are quite inexpensive. Good for colors.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's already done

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hey @OP - great job! loving the reduction of packaging. What are the other "green" creds? Are they less toxic? What's your sourcing policy?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Locally purchased, nothing with an ld50 of under 3k

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No info on the website?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Website is WIP. https://www.facebook.com/EcoChemSupply/ Enjoy for now.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hey so I've always wondered if it's true that most "biodegradable" plastics are actually not really biodegradable?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is it too late to get in on the kickstarter?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So... Did you sign a piece of paper detailing that any invention you create while working for the company is then owned by the company?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No. I'm contract. What is my own is my own. As long as it doesn't cover the realm of home fragrance then I'm clear. I also started this 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

project before I accepted my current job.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Well that's good. I have always felt that document was a dick move.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeahhh....I learned my lesson after interviewing for a position with Dizznee

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I bought a sample! It leaked a bit, but it's still great! That degreaser will be mine!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you got a kickstarter or indiegogo account?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Indiegogo coming soon

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wonderful. Please post an update, or preferably update by pm. This holds interest to persons such as myself.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't have time to update all these people. We have twitter, instagram and facebook.;-;

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just a little comment... your "welcome" in the mockup is spelled wrong.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, link, show me please!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah....and chemical and subscription.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And refill ...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And all purpose "clean"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And subscription.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and chemical....

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and in three months nobody has pointed that out. I just now noticed.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No worries. It comes from staring too long at the same text. Your mind doesnt notice the errors. You just need a "fresh eyes" look sometimes

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's okay, it didn't make our cut for final website design.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cold grease is tough, Tobacco stains. Silicon on glass. Would like to see cleaners for those. Coming from a 25 yr experienced Window Cleaner

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

WE used Glass Gleam 2, Industry-leading and bio-safe, incredible cleaner. Has little to no effect with those examples however..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We don't use silicone as it's not so environmentally friendly. We, instead, use polymers and micro active solvents

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, i meant to say new windows have Silicon-applied labels on them. It leaves silicon on the glass, extremely difficult to remove..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you could devise a chemical other than Acetone (that etches glass) you'd be the richest man ever!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It reads as ecchem to me. I'd suggest thickening the electron paths so it reads more like an o

9 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 2

Yeah, maybe just the one most vertical path so it stands out

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This is solid design advice.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Oh, I thought it was just EC Chem...

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Me too....

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Me three.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Four

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Five. (Sorry)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

OP gonna be rich AF

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not counting on it.. I just want to make people more aware

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Use paper packs you can't really put eco in your name if you use plastic

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was wondering about the use of plastic as well. Its better than chucking a whole bottle though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Post consumer. Also recyclable. I toyed with polymer coating but it was expensive and sweet tasting, which is bad for kids.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also, we're trying to source the plastic from corn

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But a paper packet would need a polymer liner to hold liquids... And multi-layer packets like that are less recyclable than all-plastic.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Question: will these clean up large amounts of blood? Asking for a friend

9 years ago | Likes 151 Dislikes 0

Hydrogen Peroxide + Vinegar + Baking Soda (works for skunk juice also)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well ... former friend, anyway.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You killed your friend, didn't you?

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not trusting you with that username...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Probably, but I would recommend a cleaner with protease. Enzymes work the best. Also, watch out for optical brighteners. Dead giveaway.

9 years ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 0

Is it possible to dunk my hand in one of your chemicals and then punch someone so hard their own fingerprints dissolve?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stuff like this is why we need to be able to favorite comments

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

You frighten me

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

You're doing me a frighten

"Dead" giveaway...

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

My neighbour's got big testicles 'cause we see this dude EVERY day.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Reduction in plastic = awesome! Are the chemicals used less toxic than those in regular cleaners as well?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I asked them about it a while back, and the response was something like, my kid would have to eat the whole package of concentrate, plus

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lock the pack, and then go find several more grams just to get sudsy poop.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks viking15. I'll have a physician analyze toxicity to verify this

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Will you be shipping internationally? (Ie Canada)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not op, but on their Facebook they said they were working on it!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We're good for it, I have a French speaking PhD willing to do labeling

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sweeeeet

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

@OP where are you based out of? I have a good friend who runs franchises of a commercial janitorial company based in the US. Message me.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She is based in California. :3

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not interested. I got out of that market already. It's soul killing

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hahaha! Not a problem. Wasn't sure if you'd be interested in supplying it or not, the company is ridiculously amazing.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks, but years in janitorial made me hate the industry. Also, giving anyone the ability to contact your chemist directly suuuucks
