Mechwarrior. Choose your clan.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh man, I loved that game.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Real O.G's had this joystick to go with it. MechWarrior hooked me on PC gaming for life.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember getting a new Gateway PC which is the first PC I had that had a subwoofer. I was playing the game and the stomp sound was so loud, my mom who was outside gardening, came in and asked what was going on because the front house lights were rattling! Good times!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The two player was weird and fun. I shoot you move.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hope this game gets a remake with the next gen graphics engine

The OST for all things Mechwarrior 2 were awesome.

YES! This!

I can hear this in my head, every time! https://youtu.be/NCmrp38KjYg

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bone Machine ruled because you could get it as a fully playable demo and TCP/IP up to 4 friends together. It would even play over phone modem

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and my Rockwell 56K modem gave enough bandwidth (which was mostly 6.9 Kb /s) to play head to head - for FREE !

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was all a out mechwarrior mercenaries. You would target just the cockpit of the enemies so you could trade up to better mechs or sell them if they weren't too busted up.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I can hear bitching Betty now.... sensors online, or the trainer calling me a freebirth

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The MW2 Clan Betty never said 'sensors online' (maybe it did in GBL). It'd list planet name, ambient temperature, local time, then "ASN"

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I dont know which one I played in the 90s but it said reactor online, sensors online, weapons online, all systems nominal and my tag on it says mw2 .. mebbe mercenaries ?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Probably Mercenaries, because I vividly remember the startup sequence for the first Clan Wolf mission in base MW2.

My favorite mech game.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Played that on a 21 inch monitor. The monitor came on a pallet and the delivery guy had a back brace.

2 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

Ohhhh yes we had something similar (don't know exact size) my dad got it from a friend who I don't think realised the value.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The closest I feel I've ever come to death as an adult was moving a 21" CRT. Almost tipped backwards with it.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mr Moneybags over here, those weren’t cheap back then. ;)

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

yep, paid $800 for a state of the art 21" Samsung, cost twice as much as the 386

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I used to cart my 21" CRT around to LAN parties! So heavy...

I was more into Base Building RTS Games so essentially Dune 2, Command & Conquer, Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander, etc... ( and while more a Base Management Game - Factorio 😁 )

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kodiak in Spirit Bear spec.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's a badass pic.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's the Clan Ghost Bear totem 'mech, the Kodiak. https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Kodiak

Kodiak 'Mech. You haven't heard of it before because you're probably not a filthy clanner.

Override the shut down! RIDE THE RED LINE!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm really bummed the new games are still isolated battlefields with just a handful of mechs that spawn in waves. With improvements in technology I was hoping for more of an open world sorta thing.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I'd have been incredibly happy of a MW4 Mercs kinda thing. Smaller, but branching storylines depending on contracts. Even with the DLCs, MW5 is too big, doesn't feel meaningful in any way

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Get the Mech 4 merchandise from MyAbandonware. It has all the early Mektek stuff and a bunch of fan-added content, most of which is canon to lore, so you won't see op "ORIGINAL: THE MECH- DO NOT STEAL" stuff. It's all things that already exist and adds an entirely new life to the game.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mech 4 mercenaries*

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

MW5 with mods is fun, but it feels like a sandbox. I much preferred MW4s scripted missions.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Played with a sidewinder joystick. Peak memories.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

You just unlocked one of my old core memory. Thank you

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was a very good joystick. I bought a joystick to try playing again and it's just not the same, the mouse is far more responsive and precise.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I feel like that was part of the experience, you were in a giant mech, you're not supposed to have pinpoint accuracy or be able to turn all that quickly or suddenly

Force feedback 2

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

the only way to play

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i still have the soundtrack cd

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Back it up, those babies start to degrade slowly over time. I'm going to make a friendly suggestion to double your hard copy and rip it as well. Stuff like this is always a pain in the ass to replace if lost or destroyed.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You mean the game itself? Red book audio, skip track one (game data) and the soundtrack would follow.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah - i used to leave in the cdrom and play multiplayer doom and descent on bbses. made for a great perk :D

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What i'd give for a modern-gen looking one so I can stomp around firing PPCs

2 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 1

Have you tried Armor Core? Seems to be a close fit.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Yup, looking forward to the new one as well, as it's definitely much more in the same vein

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I like to load up MW4 Mercs now and again, go listen to Duncan Fisher while I zap mechs in Solaris. :)

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

GOOD NEWS! Mechwarrior 5 is actually pretty decent.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I enjoyed Battletech. The turn based version where you have a whole lance.

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Hell yeah, Battletech (2018) is great!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mech Warrior Online, Mech Warrior 5 Mercenaries. Exactly what you're describing.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

Just played some MWO! Got my butt kicked every single match.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Me too... I just finished a little while ago.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Keep at it, you'll soon get the hang of it

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Titanfall 2 is wonderful. Console multiplayer is fek'd up.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Titanfall 2 is such a great game. We'll probably never see another one of its kind again. Avoid the multi-player but absolutely snag the single player.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Mechwarrior 5 is a thing.

2 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 2

It is a very bad thing by comparison, or maybe my memories are biased.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

They are different style of games but there are more gameplay pros for 5. The MW2s were super janky, objective flags breaking sometime, your projectiles sometimes just passing through enemies and terrain, the armour system making arms stupidly fragile. The writing in certainly MW2 Mercs was far better, the journal entries of your pilot had a lot of character and fit the tone. But after all the patches MW5 is a lot of fun, the scripted missions are neat, but majority is small, random jaunts.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I was not impressed by the story. As you said, MW2 was far better in that aspect. I agree it was Janky, but as Bethesda would say, that's a feature. MW5 just didn't have the same feel. It is smooth and beautiful even on console, but the content IMO was not up to par.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I tried, I really did, but it got repetitive SO fast.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

tbh I played 5 for a bit, and it felt less like I wanted - maybe i need to try again haha

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Mods. Mods make it so much better. Unless you are a console player.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

At launch MW5 was rough and just not that fun. The base game has come a long way and there are a lot of good mods available now as well

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You might be thinking of that isometric 3rd person game. MWO and 5 are a "stomping around" so you can fire your PPCs game.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

MechAssault and it's sequel (Lone Wolf?) on the OG Xbox? Those were a delight

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Battletech by Harebrained Schemes is the XCom style 3rd person turn based game, based more on the tabletop game than the Mechwarrior games. Both are good, but different experiences.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Mechwarrior 2 was faster and more visceral. I liked it more. But 5 is as close as I can get these days.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Nexusmods. That site has tons of mods to make the game significantly better. I suggest anything that starts with "Yet Another". If you feel overwhelmed, I have a file with a good choice of mods you can DM me for.
