Day 1

I was not ready for just how many foods had carbs in them. I knew about the pasta and rice, but took a big hit when I realized that my major crunch factors (crackers/chips) were also gone. Luckily I found pork rinds and would love to try some cheese crisps.

Day 2

I am going to miss BBQ sauce. And TUMS. Even coleslaw. Come on man!

Day 3

My go-to food quickly became sausage; mainly summer and salami with he occasional brat. Good stuff.

Day 4

Me calculating my Macros. Dropping carbs is really not that hard since meat and cheese are so delicious. Unless you're Vegan, then good luck.

Day 5

I discovered the filling effect of high fat foods. It's a glorious thing. Full fat cottage cheese? Love it! Coconut oil by the spoonful? Sure! Butter covered in peanut butter? That seems like a bit much...
PSA: The fat is only there to fill you up, you don't have to reach the goal every day if you're not hungry. I was considering eating butter straight up just to hit my daily goal before I learned this.

Day 6

Dropping beer entirely was out the the question, so just committed to saving my carbs for drinks. Also trying to become a whiskey guy on the side.

Day 7

Pizza is ubiquitous and tempting, but eating just the toppings works pretty well and tastes great!

I had to stop doing Keto because the sheer amount of meat I was eating was making me sick. Plus I love bread lol

wasnt it proven that excess carbs dont make you fat? its all about calories i thought?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Keto makes it easier to run a calorie deficit - foods high in fat are more satiating.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

G Hughes BBQ sauce. 2 carbs per serving and it doesn’t taste half bad.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I'll try it out. Thanks buddy.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Please make sure to get enough fiber! That’s hard in a keto diet and it’s super important for healthy immune and gastrointestinal systems!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's not that hard if you eat veggies high in fiber. If a cup of spinach has, say 5g of carbs and 3g of fiber, that's only 2g of net carbs.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The major setback to this is reduced metabolism from losing extra weight. You need gain muscle mass to prevent lower metabolism.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

noted. Thanks dude.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You really have to be filling up on high nutrition low carb veggies, otherwise you're gonna do more harm than good. Can't be using all 1/

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Your carbs on booze. Your body stops converting fat when you're processing alchohol. Source: 6 months lazy keto, 25 lb down (no exercise)

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cauliflower flour pizza crust is a thing.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Just make sure your triglycerides and HDL/LDLs are alright. Fat is good, but so are lean protein sources and vegetables.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My greatest keto moment-Telling people I’m dieting while getting served a shit load of bacon and sausages with a cheesy egg scramble.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

It seems counter intuitive because it's actually a horrible idea.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Ummm.... fully gonna condescend here- you didn't know that chips had carbs?

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

@alloradanielle #7 is just for you.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha nooooo I can't do that! I miss carbs! ????

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nothing about a keto hangover? I felt like shit for a week.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It varies a lot from person to person. OP may have been lucky. I felt almost no side effects from going keto, but my friend felt like death.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

now that you mention it, I started feeling iffy today, think I need some electrolites?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I haven't experienced it myself, but I've heard it helps considerably, yes.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't get the keto flu, but did get a delightful rash that persisted untill I broke and ate carbs for 5 days.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Make sure you keep your ketones checked or you die. I went into afib while doing this.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Major tip for Keto: Heavy cream. It tastes good, and it WILL fill you up. I'm starting Keto, and heavy cream is my fucking jam.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

gotta try that. thanks!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey. I am making keto chow shakes with heavy cream. Any advice for how to get it to blend well?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know you don't burn fat when there's alcohol in your system, right?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just remember to eat lots of green veggies and fish-If you're not hitting your micronutrients please consider a good quality multivit+omega3

A recent study absolutely forbids Leto cause it a bad for kidneys. Not too much fat either. Eat vegetables man. Not just cheese and meat.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 5

Please link, all studies I have read indicate that high protein can exacerbate existing renal issues but will not cause disease in healthy.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

Of course. But eating healthy and balanced is the best. What do you want to achieve?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

A link to this recent study is still missing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What did Jared Leto do to kidneys?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dammit you beat me to it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Please google “Atkins diet”

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

My diet is stacking 4-8 thousand pounds of freight in two hours. I can eat whatever I want.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Carbs, in theory, shouldn't MAKE anyone fat. The traditional leanness of rice eating countries is proof of that... but it can KEEP you fat.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Could argue leanness and lack of heart disease in high fat cultures also. Inuits, Netherlands, France, the Mediterranean

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm convinced the problem is sugar. Find me a society that has lots of obesity but doesn't consume much sugar/fructose.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That correlation isn't my only motive, it's also the unique metabolism of sugar.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The culprit is sugar, fructose specifically. It can set off insulin resistance that carbs will keep high.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

If you pick a fad diet, you are going to bungee back because it isnt eating less and exercising more... and be worse off for it.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

It is eating less. I'm tracking Cal's as well as macros. And it doesn't have to be keto, but it's good at keeping me full.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You only bungee back if you stop and go back to bad, unhealthy habits, which is true for any diet out there - fad or otherwise.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Eat healthy, burn more than you intake, make sure you get your vitamins and exercise and smile. Problem with fad diets is not if they work

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

Well keto works because it indirectly makes you eat fewer calories. People want a cool sciency explanation but that's really it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Sometimes it does it platues a lot and some of the websites get super intense

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's if you are imprisoning yourself into a rhythm for life in order for them to work. And that that's sad because good is culture, it's

Discipline*

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

#1 is why I decided against keto. No way I can cut carbs completely, so I just cut calories and increased exercise.

8 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 3

Thought the same, 3 months of that 3kg down. Then did keto. 3 months, 12kg down. Total of 15, still going though.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And it's not even that easy to get into ketosis as people neglect how protein is turned into glucose via gluconeogenesis.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Eh, that isnt a significant factor once you get more than 10 days in or so.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that's what I'm doing, dowb 15 lbs in the first 2 weeks, then hit a wall the last 3, feeling better/looking better, but only dropped 5 more

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Don’t worry about the scale too much! Measure yourself! I experienced slow weight loss around the 4 month mark but now I’m almost to -50

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because 15 in 2 weeks is too much! Losing 2.5 each week is a healthy amount to lose.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2 to 3 lbs per week is pretty respectable if you're not genuinely starving yourself. First weeks tend to include weight loss.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

... from water. Damn my enter key.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same. We will get there. ;)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How many lbs are you overweight? 15lbs out of 40lbs overweight is a very fast rate of weight loss unless it's mostly water.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I started at 6'2 235, I am at 215 now, end goal is 185

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're sure it's over 7lbs per week? Have you been on a complete caloric fast, so no substantial calories consumed at all?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's been 5 weeks, 20 lbs, like I said, lost 15 in the first 2 weeks then 5 in the 3 since. I decreased my cals from 2000 to 1200 a day 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've lost 40 pounds just cutting out most carbs. No soda and pasta and salads.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Congrats dude, keep at it, it WILL work. I’ve lost just over 100 so far

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Good on you mate I read a book” into the zone “by Barry sears changed my life I’ve eaten on that diet for 18 years now

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hot damn that's impressive! Nice work. It's those kind of stories that help me to keep this thing going.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hell yea! I’ve tried so many things until landing on this diet and POW working like a charm and delicious the entire time.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We’ve been on it for almost the same amount of time! I’ve lost 45 pounds but I started at 215.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice! Yeah with being as heavy as I was it fell off in chunks at the start, it’s slowed down considerably now. Congrats on your loss!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah! I don’t even think about the weight loss anymore but really the measurements. I’ve lost so many inches everywhere and it’s amazing

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

maybe just maybe, HEAR ME OUT! dont fall for any food fad and just eat less and healthy, selfmade meals? cheap, fast, tasty

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 8

Eating less isn't always easy or straightforward, and eating healthy isn't equivocal to running a calorie deficit. While keto is a fad, it /

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

trades on the satiety factor of high fat foods and the fact most high-carb foods are also high calorie. It's not really that healthy, but /

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it does force you to look at what you're eating and makes running a deficit easier, which gets you going in the right direction.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm on board for eating less and all. But let me tell ya, I am not a good cook. Noone would want to eat what I cook. Luckily I married up

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Steam some shit. Idiot proof. And it's all aboit practice. No one can cook well at first. But really, it's the foundation for 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Keeping the weight off. Keto is good for losing, but do you really want to be doing this for the rest of your life?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It will get easy as soon as you get some practice. Start with simple meals, e.g. any fried meat or fish with steamed vegetables or omlette.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ketogenic diets have been around for decades, and there’s a ton of science backing LCHF diets.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Google ketosis and ketoacidosis. Your need carbs and substituting them for protein poses a serious risk of making your blood too acidic.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

You have no clue what this diet even is lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

You're not subbing carbs for protein, you're subbing carbs for fat. When there are no carbs to burn for energy, your body burns fat instead.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your body uses ketones instead of carbs for fuel. Ketoacidosis happends when you do not consume enough fat during ketosis.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is not correct for a healthy person, as long as you arent taking insulin your body will compensate accordingly.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And their is a ton more behind what he said as well, he is correct by the way

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 4

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you gotta start cooking for yourself buddy, it makes it way easier. after two days, you crave the shit that's good for you and don't give

8 years ago | Likes 410 Dislikes 2

Eeyup. I enjoy going out to eat with my family every now and then, but I enjoy cooking for myself.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

By day end of day 4 i could smell sugar i swear.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I keep blueberries around if I'm feeling snacky. Grab a handful and it can usually tide you over till the next meal

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup I've found eggs to be a life savor.

Broccoli, kale and cauliflower sauteed in a LOT of butter. That's damn fine keto-eatin'!

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Roasted cauliflower with olive oil, rosemary, and an onion. Best shit ever.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Onion's a bit carb-heavy for keto though

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What?? Onions have carbs?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even when cooking for yourself it's hard to eat low carbs. Eating store-bought stuff would make it impossible in my experience.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

a shit about the carbs anymore

8 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 3

I'm on it. Been like 4-5 days. My brain hurts and I want 2 dozen donuts. But yeah it's getting better ... A little.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Give it a few weeks. Once you adjust, its quite a different feeling than any other diet you might have been on (probably).

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think you are vastly underestimating my addiction to pasta...

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They don't have rehab for sugar addicts. =(

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a weak bastard who did keto for a few months

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

Learning to cook still fixes it. Keto can be helpful but it's hard to maintain such a restrictive diet. And it's just a fad, calories are >

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

calories you're eating because you have to read the nutrition facts. (11. ye shall read nutrition info labels or stay fat.)

It's very easy to love off delivery if you live in a city. It's terrible financially and health wise though

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Used to cook when I had my own apartment but I've been bouncing around from couch to my bf's place and eat like a trash can

take control of your life

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Working on it takes time unfortunately

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm 31 & a terrible cook. I keep trying, but I hate it so much. Coworkers say I have the diet of a 9yr old crossed with a college freshman.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Congratz on taking the first steps...drink LOTS of water. At least a gallon a day

8 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 2

At least a gallon?! That’s like 3.8 litres seems a bit excessive. You can have health problems from drinking too much water.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Buy supplements for diarrhea. So, electrolytes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also make sure sure to get your electrolytes. Pinch of salt/lite salt (50/50 sodium/potassium) in all of your water (doesn't taste salty).

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly helpful.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This isn’t great advice... glycogen is stored with water, and therefore electrolytes, so drinking too much without watching sodium, (1)

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

The KETO diet in general is bad advice. If he doesn’t drink all that water, ketones will build up in his blood causing ketoacidosis.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

magnesium, and potassium can land you in the ER. You do need to up your water, do NOT need to drink a gallon a day(2/2)

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yeah, can't get enough water. I've been peeing more than my pregnant wife!

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

As a pregnant wife - man, that's a lot of pee!!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

for real. also, congrats!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hey, thanks! Same to you! :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pork rinds work as a substitute for breadcrumbs. Hello meatloaf and fried food...

8 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 0

I deep fry chicken breaded with porkrinds and toss it in 85/15 buffalo sauce/butter. Delicious low carb boneless buffalo wings!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't almond too? I use almond flour or flax in meatloaf instead of breadcrumbs

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I recently did a Whole30 stint. I fucking lived on meatloaf.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This should be a post in and of itself o.o

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m a vegetarian ketoer and I’m jealous of all the subs that pork rinds allow for

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is a game changer.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

WAT brb buying porkrinds by the pound

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would have never thought of pork rinds as keto friendly. New snack! Lol

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for this!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Making your own mozzella sticks is my favorite! Pork rinds crumbles and deep fry!

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

What is she doing? I never know what she's doing.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Air fryers also work wonders for creating that fried texture without all the oil. I’m already 25lbs down with only 2 months under my belt.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Parmesan cheese works for meatloaf, meatballs and burger patties too. Top with a creamy mushroom sauce for a big meal

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't creamy mushroom sauce have carbs from the starch normally used to make it a sauce?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Could also cook it down further to thicken up. You know, lower the water content. They'll get less yield per batch, but no starch

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks+1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, use fresh cream and reduce it. I make loads of cream based sauces like this with no starch at all

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I don't make causes at all, so that's nice to know when I give it a try

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

pro tip, its not about what you eat, its about how much you eat. counting and just keeping track of what you eat is the best method.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

The advantage of keto is that high fat foods lead to better satiety. Weight loss is calories in/out regardless of the diet. The best diet /2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

is one you can stick to.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On Keto its 100% what you eat. You need to track netcarbs rather than calories.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

its not "keto", its informed decision making. you can eat oreos, doritos and twinkies for a month and lose the weight.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

"keto" is what idiots call it because they're following someone elses guide to health because they dont know any better.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

you want to give yourself kidney damage, go ahead, be my guest. or you can do it the right way and eat less of what you normally eat an work

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Actually keto puts your body into a state of "ketosis" in which rather than running on carbs it runs on protein. There's science behind it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No. Ketosis burns fat, not protein. As someone on the keto diet, that's all a load of bunk anyway. Keto just trades on the sateity factor /

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

of high fat foods and the fact most high-carb foods are also high calorie. Weight loss always comes down to calories in/out in the end.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

have you gone to med school? do you enjoy kidney damage? heres a suggestion, EAT LESS YOU FAT P O S. GET ON A TREADMILL, so hard i know

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I've not found any studies done that have linked keto to kidney damage. Did you come across them while at med school yourself?
