At that point just repaint it

It never surprises me that whenever there's a nice build-up, the end result is shown for like 1sec xD

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Perfect for those pesky APBs.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Repost at his best.

Blue to less blue? really?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But what for?

I can't even use contact paper without getting bubbles wtf?!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do you have hot pink? I want my car to match my Breast Cancer Awareness decal.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This job is really impressive. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to make a vinyl wrap job that lasts for more than 24 hours.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As someone who actually does this, not really hard at all.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

For me it was very difficult to do it without stretching the material past the point of resuming it's original form once no longer heated.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It does take a few times to learn the feel of the vinyl, but once you get it the job gets easy.

I can't do too many tricks but i like to find out how tricks are done and i've become very good at that, and i have no idea how he did this!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok i think i know the basic movement now but there's still a weird detail that i'm not sure, quite good this guy.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right hand palming cards, drops them in his lap just before the hand sweep. Even knowing doesn't stop it from being awesome

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So smooth. What is this from?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Honestly have no idea.... but it seemed to work.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 325 Dislikes 0

i can't understand why imgur finds this stuff satisfying. will someone please explain? i honestly dont get it

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

That is because wrapping is done with special foil. It is stretchable and heatable. So when you make a mistake you can undo it.

9 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 1

I could do with wrapping myself in that then

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

If you want you can do anything.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Time to fuck a blender.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

So instead of blue it's now...blue...ish...ey...er

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Right. My thought was why do you wrap it in a solid color?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depending on the material it could be a way to slow down corrosion, or at least cover it up.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree this gif should have given a few more seconds to show the end product, if the maker of the video wants to promote their business.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Right click the gif. "Show Controls". Pause when wanted.

This is a repost

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Why are there always a dozen people saying it's a repost? Who gives a shit? Not everyone spends 24 hours a day on Imgur. So it's new to us.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Put yourself in my situation, would you like to see reposts?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do see reposts every time I log on. And I'm new. I just scroll to the next post. Where would we be if things didn't repeat?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

With a diffrent mindset you might change a world--repeat? So you want wars to happen again?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not if we learn from past mistakes. Not everything needs to be exactly the same. Unless you're obsessive compulsive.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Can we take a moment for all the non native English speakers who all thought this was going to be about gift wrapping a car.

9 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 4

Thank you. Thank you.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I'm a native speaker, and I was waiting for the big bow to finish it off.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Am a native speaker and I had no idea wrapping (vs painting) a car was even a thing.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Lol same. Was expecting to see someone unwrapping it in the end.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

How about for all the *people* (myself included) who thought this was going to be about gift wrapping a car.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I was like 'wait is that wrapping paper?' and I'm a native English speaker

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a native English speaker, i thought this was going to be about gift wrapping a car. I didn't even know this was a thing.

9 years ago | Likes 124 Dislikes 0

There's a guy here in Texas who does a wrap that simulates rusted paint. Still don't understand that one.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

as a native english speaker who watched the entire gif. i still thought it was gift wrapping until i read this comment

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Ditto

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Where?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I do not like wraps on cars. I prefer a skilled paint job.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 12

Yeah wraps are very low quality and look bad. They only thing worse is plasti dip.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

I can think of lots worse. Rattlecan. Full-coverage duct tape or bumper stickers. The "art car". Airbrushed graphics. Smear shit all over it

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I would 100% have shit smeared on my car then ever even think about plasti dip or wrapping it. Also duct tape is above wraps on the chart.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I don't know why you would do that. The car was much nicer before they wrapped it in that thing

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Having done both, yeah. Paint looks better, lasts longer, and isn't that much different in price.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Why? Just to spend more money?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea the original paint looked better. It that it looked perfect but still better than the wrap

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just find it funny that someone felt strongly enough to downvote you for this. +1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Well, that's just like, your opinion, man.

How do they get the smoother thing to stay on the car for the photo? Even doing a stop motion of the smoothing effect must take forever.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's the benefit of this? How long does it last? Do car washes fuck it up? Seriously want to know.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

You can wrap your car in an outrageous colour and keep the original paint if you want to sell it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wrapped my e30 a few months back, it's easier than you think, but time consuming for sure. Several years if done right, wash by hand.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lot of businesses will use wraps to cheaply put their business name on their vehicles along with a unique visual scheme to make their (1)

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

fleet stand out while out on the road. (2/2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Its the poor mans paint job, only thing worse is plasti dipping.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

If you ever plan to change color again this is much better than paint and cheaper. Plus you keep your original paint.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The entire point of painting is to get rid of the original paint.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No this is actually a really good thing, it's wayy cheaper then just re painting the whole car and it protects the original paint.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Just because its cheaper doesn't make it better. It looks shitty, creases and peels & the point of painting is to get rid of the original.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Only creases and peels if its a shit installer and it doesn't look shitty in the least bit. Plus it keeps the car paint looking brand new.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Once again. They entire point of doing this is to change the paint. Also any kind of scratch will start the peeling process, where as on

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Main benefit is that you change the color while preserving the original paint.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Side benefit is that it requires less specialized equipment/facilities than paint to install. Supposed to last a few years.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Never had any problems with touchless car washes with my wrap.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks for the info man.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is actually a thing? Is it plastic, like shrink plastic? Adhesive backed? This could be the answer to my paint delima.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are some pretty amazing colors. Even ones that look carbon fiber and wood.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would wrapping a car be cheaper than painting?

9 years ago | Likes 821 Dislikes 3

Yes. The car in the image is probably worth less than the cost of wrapping it by the way. Proper wrapping is between 1500 and 2000 €/$.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In certain situations, it's better to wrap. Especially with very detailed paint jobs.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes. The materials for a respray are very expensive and you have to invest 10h atleast. If we are really fast and the car is small 8h.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah its cheaper

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you wanted to learn from nothing how to paint a car yourself, it would cost about 2-5k in materials.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

lol no it wouldn't. You could do a decent respray by yourself for 500 bucks including the compressor and air gun.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You forgot to factor in the expenses incurred from the learning curve of people.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You stated materials doe..

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, I said how much it would cost to learn, the cost to learn tends to be 2.5 times the cost of just doing for a raw novice.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a 2009 Acura TSX... I was quoted $2,000 to have it wrapped. A decent paint job would be around the same price if not more.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I addition, the way back to the old color e.g. for resell is a lot easier, too.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly if you're getting a quality professional job it's not much more cheaper than a pain job. Advantage is you can always go back.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My friend got a re-spray on a Toyota for $199 bucks from Maaco, and it was nice. Wasn't a 10k job, but it was very decent. Looked factory.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A high end paint job is about 8k for a whole car.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yes, also look into plastidipping, the colours have gotten crazy and it would only cost like 6-800 to wrap a car

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A good wrap is around $1000 ish. A good respray is around $3000-$6000 and increases on type of car+color wanted.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm fairly certain the only reason this is plain blue is for the stop motion demo. You generally wrap a car to apply graphics of some sort.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

That's how wrapping started. These days, people get solid color wraps as well

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cheaper, but still not cheap. A full wrap on something like an SUV can still run 1500-2000 dollars from a good shop

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah but it also looks really cheap. Try as you might it will have creases. Even if they manage to get it creaseless out of the shop it

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

will get them soon. If you want quality that will last just get it painted.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

You don't get creases unless you are an idiot

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Yes it will. And over time it gets worse.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

Wrapping = hundreds, painting = thousands

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

*Good painting. Not that MAACO bullshit.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It absolutely is. I do autobody for a living and these wraps kinda fuck me over. I can't fix these things so when someone hits a pole or

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Can't you just re-wrap the one panel that was damaged?Seems like getting an extra sheet of vinyl would actually be easier than painting well

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you do wraps. Not everyone does. I just do paint. I can do a small blend in 45 minutes. I can't fix a wrap.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's fair. I suppose body shops would be better versed in paint than wraps. Thanks for the reply :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks almost like it's more work.

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 7

Then you've never seen a car properly painted.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know that the chemicals involved in painting cars are so sensitive that not only are they painted in an enclosed area, but the painter 1/

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

has to wear a certain kind of deodorant to prevent any kind of chemical reaction in the paint. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Nah for paint you have mask the entire car, sandblast, prime, paint, clearcoat and them reassemble. With wraps you don't need to mask

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

But a paint job is so expensive and so many places do a terrible job. My car needs a new paint job and it's charged by panel.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe. I've wrapped a car for $800 and painted one for $400. Depends on materials used and labor involved.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

If you painted a car for $400, you had your own equipment, didn't include costing the time and probably did a shit sprayover. Oven?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I think maaco used to have a $500 respray but you had to do your own sanding. Apparently the paint didn't last too long but was good to 1/

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Refresh older cars that weren't worth much money but didn't want to drive a rustbucket 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

$400 got primer, paint, thinner, hardener, and sprayer. Had the air compressor and barn. $800 got the vinyl and squeegees. Labor was me.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

The Oven is generally the most expensive part that most DIY'ers won't have access to...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(2) something like that the person has to go to someone else. Wraps are cheaper but paint is easier to fix.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Cheaper than a proper respray for sure. The time involved in a respray is crazy

9 years ago | Likes 354 Dislikes 1

True, took a month for my charger to go from midnight blue to matte coyote tan.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

i was confused cause I thought they were wrapping it for xmas. I may be functionally retarded

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

"may be"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you mean it doesn't take 5 seconds like it does in GTA? damn...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I do small repairs and re-spray in 16hrs. How long does a wrap take with zero dent repair?

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

Avg. graphic ad wrap is ~$2500 and full color change wrap is ~$3600. Chrome wraps start at $5-6k

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Why do colour changes cost more? It's the same amount of vinyl, no? It's opaque so it's not like paint where it'd need extra labour & layers

Money money money, ain't it funny

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How much do you charge? I've been curious to the price of a respray.

9 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

16 hrs * mechanic hourly salary * 2 seems like a decent rule of thumb.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I work next to a paint shop and they take 2000-2500€ for a complete respray.

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Are you talking respray to a different colour? Or just a touch up of existing? Big difference

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Better buy a new car.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I guess that's not bad. Expensive but it's pretty much a new vehicle at that point if it's mechanically stable.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Probably. In the Bay Area, I'd expect to pay about $2k for a wrap job on a compact car. Double that for a whole spray.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Any south bay recommendations? Or good window tinting?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Im not from the area, but any reputable window tinting place should offer a warranty. It often costs ~$10, but shows they trust their work.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Terrible name, but Tints R Us in SJ did my windows. I used Vinyl Styles in San Carlos for my wrap.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Auto Image Window Tinting in Belmont is amazing. A little pricey but they do a great job

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

dont know about wrapping, but for window tinting youre not gunna find a better place

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Will check them out. Used to live in sm, think I've heard of them.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Alot cheaper

What are you alotting?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Lots!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Manual respray is very labor intensive so it's expensive in countries where people get paid well.

9 years ago | Likes 127 Dislikes 1

It might cost you $3-5k in US, but $500-1000 in places with shit economy and poor people. Source: I live in shit economy with poor people.

Actually that can be a pretty great car its a little small for me personally but it can be a lot of fun to drive.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Friend has one, it's small, understeers, cheaply built. Does get from a-b reliably and don't cost that much, that makes it cool-ish.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Is it America?

9 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 4

Europe. US Model has different badges

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

I tried to get a quote for some scratches on my door the guy tells me it be a couple thousand but I should get my insurance involved. I left

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have poor experience with car service in US,had couple of urgent repairs, on both cases they replaced bunch of parts that were still good.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Like replacing the whole exhaust after headers for a crack in exhaust pipe, replacing all the hoses and radiator for a bad thermostat...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who cares about cheaper. My question is, how long does it last with different weather conditions. If it's cheap it might get ruined in a mon

9 years ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 6

If you wrap a car you should have a garage or something similar or it wont last very long in the sun.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most wraps will last several years if done with quality materials. I've done vehicles that are still holding up well 7-8 yrs later.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

first hand experience, it doesnt last long if you set the truck on fire

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Obviously you bought cheap materials. /s

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

nah, it was the cheap driver who bought a cheap space heater

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That sucks. I'm sorry.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At least 5 years, not to mention that it protects the original paint

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good wraps will last as long or longer than a good paint job.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

The stuff my company makes lasts 3 yrs if used with a UV protective overlaminate

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Clearly everyone here has a different opinion and no consensus has been reached

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Bossman tells people 7-10 years depending on how well you care for it. That's been accurate so far from what I've heard.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not a fan of wrapping but I heard a good point for it for classic cars. Wrap it in the color you want but maintain the original under

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

The wrap. Thus keeping your value as an all original car.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That's what I've been thinking for my nova

Yea

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had a '76 Nova Concours. She was my baby. Take excellent care of yours!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

a wrap done well will usually last about 5 years, but I'm assuming thats in perfect weather conditions

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

My neighbour is going on year 3 with his wrapped cla 45 and it usually sees a few days of winter too. Haven't noticed any failures

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My Camaro got certain place wrapped over 6 years ago and it's only just showing me signs it needs redoing.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But would it survive a New England winter? The real question

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Im in florida. So idk if that intense heat will affect it

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Most likely will that in the nonstop UV bombardment. Figure it is similar to window tint, florida beats it up

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The colour of the wrap might just fade quicker with it being in the sun most of the time

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Not that long, if you bump or scratch your car anywhere it usually comes right off

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

This is what I was wondering. Thank you

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It kinda looks like it'd be fun to peel off though.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

it's fun to peel, until peeling the wrap off full sized trucks outside in the blazing sun in 90degree weather is your job. (1)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

but in the winter you get to use a flamethrower so that's totally badass (2)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On the other hand, so does paint.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Paint can be buffed if the damage is minimal

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yea But paint isnt Easy to tear off like wrap, I just like regular paintjobs better

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that's cool. I don't know anything about comparative durability of either coating. But I don't imagine the vinyl comes off like paper.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The wraps don't just tear off actually they're pretty good at holding up against direct bumps it's just sharp edges it doesn't like really.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

3M vinyl is supposed to last 7-10 years. Don't know about the other brands.

9 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 1

3M and Avery are warrantied for 3 years vertical, and 1 year horizontal (roofs) I've seen wraps last 8 years with minimal sun damage

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Good info. Halfway through my first wrap ATM!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice! Yeah it's not easy stuff, I've worked at a wrap shop for the past 3 years

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wonder what would happen to the resale value on a car with a 12yrold wrap that is crazed to all hell.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Peel the wrap off, paint would be immaculate.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wraps peal off like stickers with zero residue. The subsequent owner wouldn't even know, so resale won't be impacted.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Can you imagine some punk start peeling while you're getting groceries?!? MURDER!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live on a dirt road and can't imagine that I'd get 7-10 years. But thanks for the info, nonetheless. I was curious as well.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I live in Canada, can't imagine it getting through some harsh winter conditions.. Would've been cool tho :(

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

You could also plastidip it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you considered moving into a house? It's much nicer than a dirt road

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I would but launching model rockets in the house would be interesting for much more dangerous reasons.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

One of my friends wrapped his Del Sol in a spongebob theme. 15 years of daily dirt road use and it's fine.
