Amazing PBS doc talks about this at 11 min mark. Whole thing is worth a watch. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3umwir

Well dam

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cue that trumpet music

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.... I mean from the same extra simplistic point of view, we see a forest and say "this shit has to go"

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fun fact: beavers build dams so that they can make a pond to live in. https://www.nps.gov/articles/buildabeaverdam.htm

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's is a pretty dam fun fact.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sound just like my mom: - Stop this nonsense and build a dam

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You gotta leave it to beaver

5 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 0

There's a documentary about beavers called "leave it to beaver a"

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ward, you were really hard on the beaver. Sorry, June, I'll pick up lube on the way home tonight

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nestle is the same way

They make a dam to create an artificial lake so they can build their safehouses in.

Dammit that’s cute.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

as a landowner i really have a love/hate relationship with em, they are cool animals and cute as hell but they also cause tons of damage

5 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 2

Beavers are big and also have big teeth. I don't fuck with Beavers.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

i deal with beavers like how humans often deal with problems, you stay in your place and we cool, you come here and i will shoot and eat you

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Sounds like you're a cannibal

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Or a necrophilliac.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

for human cases we use the old and proven skjut, gräv, tig. shoot, dig, keep your mouth shut :D

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That fucking ”skjut, gräv, tig” got me lol

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Man I know exactly what you mean. I have a place on the Mn/Ontario border & they can be just brutal.

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

lol ye, went up to my hunting cabin after 1 year away and had a small lake where it used to be a nice little fishing stream -.-

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

You also will have baby beavers.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I watched beavers turn 2 streams no bigger than 2ft across into shallow lakes/huge ponds over 10 years. So many aquatic insects and leeches

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Beavers are, apparently, responsible for the best, most fertile farmland in NA by the eventual silting in of their ponds. 1

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's unfortunate we see them as a nuisance in our quest to dominate landscapes. There are programs in US west to reintroduce them 2

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's the sound of running water. Beaver have built dams on speakers playing water sounds.

Oh, no...maybe you'll just have to look yourself.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It is interesting how high-level, seemingly intelligent actions animals can do just on instinct.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But doesn't that just tell us that beavers know what running water sounds like?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Apparently they'll build dams even on concrete over a speaker of running water. lol

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is there a study about that, this is something I want to read !

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Lars Willson, Sweden, 1968 (article about study): https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/67662/sound-running-water-puts-beavers-mood-build

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

PBS has an amazing doc Leave it to Beavers. At the 11 min mark they use speakers to guide them to build dams away from culverts.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well I’ll be damned..

5 years ago | Likes 302 Dislikes 2

only if you sound like running water

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You're fine, Brooke.

5 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 0

I’d stream that

5 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Water you doing later?

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Just going with the Flow, Sea how things play out.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Why? Do you sound like running water?

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Came here to say that +1

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A few times a day, yeah.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Literally always. I'm that one species from futurama made of water

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So you're telling me if I had enough beavers I could control them using sound to build some sort of beaver architecture mega structure?

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

We can call it The Fortress of Dam and give them all bright orange jumpsuits, and perfect our evil laughs while they toil.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

D..do you have a newsletter I could subscribe to?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are you Nancy Pelosi? Because she is fine. Great pair of milkers. Speaker of the house, more like SOTHILF.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He's okay I guess. From the other side of a glory hole, I bet he sucks it like a hungry baby goat. I'll tape up a poster of Nancy Pelosi.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So we just need to line our southern border with speakers and get them to build a wall to keep those Americans out?

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Oh god if a beaver found niagra falls....

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I like the way you think

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but who is going to pay for it?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

CHINA

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Later, you'll have plenty of opportunities to get beaver skins. They used to be used as money once.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If would be interesting to see how deaf beavers get on with their dam building

5 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 0

Animals with disabilities like that usually don't make jt to adulthood. But I suppose it could happen

5 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

True, but they do have a decent chance of ending up in a wildlife refuge or a zoo. Those animals usually have awesome personalities.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s quite ableist.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

No that is natural selection. If you can't hear a predator sneak you are food.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nature is ableist.
