"There is no dark side in the moon, really. Matter of fact, it's all dark."

Fake ! I don't see a dark side !

Batmoon?

7 years ago | Likes 98 Dislikes 1

Why’s it seem like the ground is twisting?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fake, the moon is not round because it is tidal locked. This is a digital concept of some sort.

I see the moon prison I saw on that one documentary is conveniently edited out.

People are of two minds about the moon,...

And I'll see you on the dark side of the moon ??

TIL the moon has a butthole

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This really needs to have little buttcheeks on it when it rotates

Oh Iron Sky...

And they expect me to believe the Nazis don’t have a base up there. Please.

I get that reference!!

Was expecting dick butt. Disappointed. That's super cool though so +1.

Maybe some day we'll send people there.

Is it just me or is the spherical projection a little bit wonky? I can't tell if that's a visual quirk or just a bug in the map.

Looks pretty flat to me

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

So the moon is round???

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I dont see one single flag

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Notice that it is ROUND.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Either that, or it's flat on all sides

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What? You lost me.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Obviously it's just a computer generated model made by those in charge to fool the weak minded... /s

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I blame the Nazi’s.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I honestly expected dickbutt

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Fun fact: the 'dark side' of the moon both receives and reflects more light than the 'light side.'

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

This is because the far side of the moon faces the sun during the point in its orbit of the Earth where it's at its closest.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Whereas, the near side of the moon only faces the sun when it's on the far side of the Earth, and therefore farther away.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the black basalt flats and frequent eclipses probably don't help that either.

It's doing a moonie

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting how we always see the very spotty side, and the "clean side" is at the other end. Why is that?

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The moon has no rotation and therefor we never get to see the dark side

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 8

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The dark spots are caused by heavy strong impacts. Thisr don't happen as frequently.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I asked my question wrong. I know the moon is tidally locked. What I was wondering was: why are the dark spots on the side we see, and the

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cleaner side on the side we don't see?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tidal locking means one side always faces Earth and therefore doesn't get hit as much.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The "clean" side gets hit by an amazingly high number of space objects because it has no atmosphere. We always see the same side because 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

2/2 geosynchronous orbit has rotation the same as its spin. It's like if we spun once every year. The side the sun sees would be the same.

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

this is kinda not right at all. atmo has nothing to do with anything, there is none. orbit is not geosync. tidally locked is the reason.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And that is because it's tidally locked, right?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

tidal locking

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Why are some parts black?

7 years ago | Likes 186 Dislikes 5

That's the continent "Africa"

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Ran out of bleach.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The image is darkened. They're just a less contrasted darker grey (by the naked eye) 'cause underlying material has been exposed by meteors.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The side that's locked to the earth was also facing the earth when earth was blazing hot.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

THey haven't got that part of the soundstage built yet

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dark side of the moon.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's dark on the side that faces us because the moon is in tidal lock with the earth. The unbalanced force moved lava to the surface.

The average albedo of the moon is about the same as asphalt. Some bits are darker, some bits are lighter

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Matter of fact, it's all dark.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Why even are all the pictures of the moon black and white? With our current technology couldn't we get at least a color photo?

7 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

The moon doesn't exactly have much color..

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 6

Well you never know if they don't publish color photos....

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not just black and white--There are 50 shades of grey.

7 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 2

Lava flows smoothed out the craters. The far side doesn't have many because it gets hit by meteors a lot more often.

7 years ago | Likes 129 Dislikes 0

That's where Gary Larson lives.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why does the earth facing side show so many craters yet behaves like it never rotated to face space for impacts to become?

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

It wasn't always tidally locked with earth

7 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Look at how far away the moon is, it's easy for a meteor to miss earth, but still hit the moons near side. It's just not as likely.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If the earth was a basketball, the moon would be a tennis ball 24 feet away. You can see the earth only shields it a little bit.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And most of that is because any asteroid getting close to the Earth would be flung off by gravity.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ancient lava flows from around 4 billion years ago.

7 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 3

I thought the moon was created from the Earth after a huge impact during its formation. Are the lava flows THAT old???

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We don't really know how the moon was formed but that's the generally accepted hypothesis AFAIK. Also: Yes.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But... but the universe is only 5000 years old...

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Kinda weird that the other side doesn't have them

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

No it itsnt. The side facing the earth is locked because more of the moon's mass is concentrated on that side, where the lava flowed...

7 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 3

Also the side facing Earth is much less likely to be hit by space objects, therefore being relatively untouched and undisturbed.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

So the the bit with all the black is what I see when I look up at the sky?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes. The image's contrast looks like it's been bumped up, but google an image of the moon at night.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yus

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That's not how tidal locking works. The tidal forces slow rotation untill there are no more tidal forces. One side isnt heavier than another

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Uh ok dude cite your source for that

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What you linked says nothing about tidal forces influencing the moons rotation. Nice try though
