A new Banksy artwork paying tribute to NHS workers has appeared near the emergency department at Southampton General Hospital in England.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The artist left a note for hospital staff, which read: "Thanks for all you're doing. I hope this brightens the place up a bit, even if it’s only black and white."⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The piece depicts a boy who appears to have thrown away his Spider-Man and Batman action figures in favor of a new favorite: an NHS nurse.

They need to make that figure and sell it with profits going to nurses

Honestly thought this was a scrubs episode

"has appeared"? It was brought in quite officially.

Symbolism and sentiment aside that is just... the cutest picture. Probably my fav banksy work already.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 weeks from now it will self-destruct

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd sell it. I like how that makes the gesture grow. He made a beautiful gesture and it does double duty providing real physical care.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is cool but I didn’t get the impression the boy tossed the other toys. It kinda looks like he’s playing with his “heroes” (nurse too).

I’ve never understood why people adore this vandal and criminal. If you or me did what he does, we’d be arrested, not celebrated.

Surly the person who collects Banksy art knows what he or she looks like?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not a huge Banksy fan, but he does know how to cut straight to the heart of the matter with his art. Well done.

Good Guy Banksy

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's really a fine thing he did there. I hope he arts some more. Thanks for highlighting

He is a true arter.

CCTV cought a glimpse - us Brits love this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfr64zoBTAQ

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

How do they know for sure it's him?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's where I was born!

v

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wonder if it will shred itself when the pandemic is over

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty pessimistic of me but I have a horrible feeling this is gonna get stolen before it reaches that charity auction.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is good. His vandalism is bad.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Best way to show appreciation is fight for better funding and better wages. Or thoughts, prayers and claps, they'll do too.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is great but my god I must have seen it posted a thousand times on different social media now. Not that it’s bad to post here

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm only just seeing in now if I'm honest!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah and that’s why I don’t generally bemoan reposts. Always new to someone! But I’m from UK so my insta and fb is flooded with it lol

Hello fellow Brit!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't be surprised if it lights itself on fire or something in the next few months. This is Banksy we're talking about.

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 4

That was to someone that wanted to buy/own his work. This was a gift.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Didn't it go up in value bc of that?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So far he proved himself as a good-natured troll, not a sadistic kind.

5 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I wonder if he likes that his stuff is stuff is sold in less than a week after creation ?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's donated it with the express permission for it to be sold

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think there is an underlying point. The NHS hero nurse figure will inevitably also be thrown away again by the kid (society) at some point

5 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 2

I think you’re quite right about this. Thought provoking. One of the many reasons I love this artist.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting insight. Whether banksy intended it or not. It still holds true.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Been lucky to see three works in the flesh, his art is excellent and this gesture is really charitable.

5 years ago | Likes 357 Dislikes 7

Spray paint over it.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry to be that guy but his art is mediocre at best, its just his popularity that makes it "excellent" he copied blek le rat

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He does work on flesh too?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't think this is charity, this seems a lot more like reverence.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Things can be two things. Sometimes people are charitable out of reverence. How do you think churches stay open?

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Hope they get to keep it.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This is so absurd. So a tagger/graffiti artist, some how, is never seen, but can put a painting up, in the middle of a hospital, STILL 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 17

have it go back to him? HOW, oh is it his art style? LOL damn those aren't hard to copy. (Imo is just another name for an increase in 2/3

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 17

Who would question a man in overalls and a mask putting up a picture?

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

So they have ZERO cameras of him doing it? and that kinda proves, you can't prove it's actually him, but it will still be sold for a fat $1m

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Seriously. All he needs is a clipboard to set down first and he's basically invisible.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

a market item, like Gucci or fuckin' SUPREME)

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 13

Love being down voted before even done lol sorry muh bois ya wrong.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 12

Ok, lots to unpack there... (1) he doesn’t have to be the actual person installing the piece. This appears to be something done off-site ¹

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Why is no one wearing a mask in this video?

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

That is an interesting and excellent question.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because its the UK. The govt fucked us

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's a shortage of PPE, a lot of doctors have sourced it for themselves or had it donated to them rather than receive it from government.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NHS worker- while correct about government's failures on ppe, this does not look like an area where masks would be necessary or helpful

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

True true

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

NHS worker- from the looks of it, it's a corridor. Not a covid ward. The masks are best saved for those that actually need them, and /1

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Any staff working on covid wards will be decontaminating to the point that they could leave the hospital and go home before leaving that /2

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ward. There's no need for that level of ppe in that area, and if this hospital is anything like mine ppe is fucking precious.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Southampton is my local hospital - that’s the floor with all the cafés on outpatient clinics on so nobody external will be their hence why

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We're not too far apart. Raising a whiskey to you tonight. See you on the other side.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I like this. But it doesn't really look like Banksy.. Is it just me?

5 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 5

haters gonna hate

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Deliberately subdued.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Maybe it will shred itself in a week or two

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The way the child is holding the doll, makes me think it isn’t

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s posted on his Instagram so Seems legit

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

He left a note as well

5 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

i mean... i could write a note too... Am i banksy?

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Stand alone complex time!!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

v it looks like a Banksy piece to me, but much of his work is spray paint. The artist is full of surprises.

5 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 3

Dude on the phone

5 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

Your face when your private commission at the auction just got shredded in a publicity stunt.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I still think realistically it's even more valuable now

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It’s worth double I believe.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The sale went through, so they still got commission:

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Do you think he knew that at the time? If a piece is damaged before transfer to the buyer they don’t have to pay. (I worked for auctioneers)

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I assume some asshole will try and steal it.

5 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 1

Yes i will.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And it will be a hospital exec

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Guess not, it will just shred itself.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That entire freaking wall is being stolen as we speak

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you been to Southampton? That is definitely getting stolen. I give it a week.

5 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Southampton boy here. Remember the Banksy painted on the wall in bevois valley a few years back? One of the neighbours painted over it.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is art burglary still a problem? ?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bruh, yeah. No doubt.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's Southampton, some areas if you drive too slow they'll have your wheels off.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Where there's people, there's crime. His artwork happens to fetch a hefty price. It's def getting stolen if they don't secure it somehow.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Article I tripped on when I typed art theft 2020 into google. Additionally, there’s an entire FBI division dedicated to art theft. I assume²

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interpol has an even larger/more aggressive division dedicated to just that in Europe. If you think about it - it’s a pretty big payoff ²

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Crime. Some of these pieces are worth millions, if they’re even assigned a “value” (given that so many aren’t for sale). Almost all art is ³
