2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They either live a real long time or there are at least two of them.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Try to get a tracker on it and youll find the remaining flock!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Their problem was that they were trying to use a radar to take pictures of the birds, which just flew right under them. Use cameras next time!

Fuck man we need more of this.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Bird has avoided extinction by avoiding people. This sounds like a successful strategy. Good luck birb.

2 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, avoiding humans is not a successful way to avoid extinction, as humans cause many species to become extinct before they can even be scientifically described.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If we aren't there to catalogue, who can say they ever existed?? /s

How much do ypu get paid to go live on a remote island and look for birds. That sounds like a great job

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lets just say their favorite meal is Macaroni and cut up hot dogs.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You're a researcher of an endangered bird. The pay isn't great. But that's not why you do it

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I’ve always wondered, when an animal population dips so low, are they not already functionally extinct? Sure they maybe be able to live for several more generations, but with such a small gene pool wouldn’t they inevitably die out? I’d always heard that to maintain the genetic diversity needed for a viable population required around 10,000. Granted, that number was for humans and I’m sure it’s different for animals… even so, many of the well documented animals that are considered endangered have

You may be looking for the term 'critically endangered'. Animals that are nearly extinct in the wild, but may be kept going through concerted breeding efforts in captivity. Heartbreaking really.

An example would be the NZ ground-dwelling Parrot, kākāpō. At their lowest point (1990s), there were only 51 in the world. They've managed to reach 247 through the hard work of conservationists. It's still anyone's guess if they'll ever recover their numbers sufficiently, especially due to predators & habitat erosion.

Populations in the low thousands, or even high hundreds. I am no expert, but at first blush that doesn’t sound like enough individuals to be viable.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some species from remote habitats like this may never gave had a population of 10,000. But you are generally correct.

Pheasant tastes good but pigeons don’t have much meat on them and I heard they taste gamy

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The longer you hang them to tenderize the stronger the flavour. Not a fan myself.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like how "bird" is in bold like "extinct", meaning that it was proven to be neither.

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 2

Ha! You believe birds are real?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's because those words are most likely links.

Also, not a bird?
