That parasite controls the mantis. It's literally taking over its functions and turns it into a zombie mantis.

Get it together soldier! You CAN even!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

you know what do.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Why are you putting it in water when it needs to be burned.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

What is that mantis being soaked in, and does it work on humans?... asking for a friend.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Just water. Either the worm chokes and tries to escape or water triggers it to leave and mate.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ahh, yeah, I have aided that movie my entire life lol

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aided?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Avoided* I didn't check my autocorrect, sorry

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Glad I wasn’t the only one thinking it

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I doubt the mantis would appreciate that...[

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

man, not showing the whole thing come out is a dick move, now i gotta look up horsehair worm videos so i can get some closure

8 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 1

That's simply disturbing...

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He ded:(

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

there's just something morbidly fascinating watching em pop out when an infected bug gets hit w a drop of h20

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Poor baby, I guarantee that was painful for him. Is why the researcher wasn’t merciful and just killed him before doing this :(

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Their nervous system is most likely not developed enough for pain as we know it.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Well then I won't feel so bad when the 5th Dimensional entities torture me, because I experience pain less fully than they do. Eh?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

did the mantis live?

8 years ago | Likes 236 Dislikes 9

Dude, he bought the worm farm

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was hopeful at the start but the longer it went on... It becomes apparent

8 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 0

Yeah, he just went to live on a farm upstate.

8 years ago | Likes 799 Dislikes 5

Tell him to say hi to my dog for me

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

Hey..wait a minute

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Do you think the mantis got promoted at least?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ok. I'll take the fall. I don't get it.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A common lie often told to children when pets die is that the pet went to go live on a farm somewhere far away.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ah, it makes sense now. I've heard that, but no one ever told that to me personally as a kid, so I didn't think of it. Thanks.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What if you live in Rhode Island. Does that state have enough room for an upstate?

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

RI’er here. No one really knows what goes on up state. Weird towns like chepachet, Oakland-mapleville, and manville. Killers, maybe dragons

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm in northern MN. Upstate for us is Canada.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't you mean south Canada.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't act like you're not Canada.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Canada without the healthcare, is what I always say! I said that once.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lots of Mantises on that farm.

8 years ago | Likes 72 Dislikes 0

Well it is a giant mantis farm after all

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Wouldn't that be Manti?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This comment cracked me up

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Coat that thing in brake cleaner right now!

8 years ago | Likes 311 Dislikes 2

horsehair worm, doesnt infect humans.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

then set it on fire, I know it makes poison gas that's the point.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait really?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

heating some forms of brake cleaner can give off very nasty fumes

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Presumably the chlorinated stuff.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had an army of roaches scare the crap out of me in my outbuilding once and, in leiu of bug spray, was amazed at the effect of brake cleaner

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s really good at cleaning brakes and killing bugs.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yea, they just died.. instantly. I had to stop, look at the can, "huh", and continue chasing the initial survivors down.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Throw some headlight fluid on it

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

You wouldn't believe how well that stuff lights up.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Is that a pun or am i big stupid

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Sure, but that might give off something nasty when you set fire to it, and you are going to set fire to it, right?

8 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 0

Worth it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Horsehair worm? Yep. Horsehair worm. http://www.iflscience.com/plants-and-animals/seriously-creepy-parasite-escapes-praying-mantis/

8 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 2

What an awful video. I feel bad for the mantis

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope, nope, nope, nope. I need eye bleach and a brain scrape to remove the last 5 minutes of my memory please.

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I knew this one! Reminds me of Toxoplasma Gondii, the parasite that makes mice and rats fearless of cats resulting in their demise by cats.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I hate this worm. One of my pet mantids was killed because of it. I also hate this thing's appearence

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Tl;dr these parasites infect their host's brain to seek water (and/or drown themselves). Once the host is submerged, they exit to lay eggs.

8 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

Does this mean the mantis dies?

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

This kills the mantis.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For the most part, yes.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Apparently they dont always die, but this particular one does. https://youtu.be/M9LNQkTXUyI

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Poor lil feller

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just me, or did that human seem kinda mean?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not sure if it was the parasite, or the guy dropping it in water. May not have lived either way, but who knows.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Most insects can survive for a quite a long time underwater. It was almost certainly the parasite.
