the union makes us strong

Nov 26, 2020 5:08 PM

Ah yes. Back when I was at Home Depot they had a whole video dedicated to keeping employees from seeing the benefits of joining a union

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They will pull a walmart and close the whole warehouse

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Amazon has hired the literal Pinkerton company to monitor (read, intimidate) the warehouse workers.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Labor together strong.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

we need unions again, big time. we are going through the exact same thing as they did when unions first started

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

solidarity for ev--er!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10000%. No one in the ruling class will help the working class, not trump, not Biden. Worker solidarity is the ONLY way. Organize. ✊?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hope it works for them. Everyone should get a fair wage and treated with decency.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a member of a UNION DO IT

The best president that never was

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Surprising to see Bezos's newspaper covering that story.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

I was also surprised that the WP prints this Kind of article

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

ELI5. What's the downside of unionisation

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Alabama is a right to work state - does not matter

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And companies are free to enter into contracts with unions on their own terms, one of which might be to ignore that law.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Bezos can shut down that warehouse in the blink of an eye and he won't even notice the blip in his fortune.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The only way to fight corporate greed. Our government certainly won’t do it for us. They are owned purchased and paid for by corporate $.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Bernie for Labor Secretary.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Seems there’s a lot of this “waiting for the south to do the right thing” going around.

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 9

Always has been.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

The idea even that an union is illegal is so weird. Why would it be illegal for workers to get together and talk about their needs

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Im still surprised that you have unions in the US. I thought you work 18h a day in inhuman conditions to protect your freedom.

5 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 5

Nope. We do that to pay rent and medical bills.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

People that are anti union have never worked hard and had someone shit on them for it.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 7

People who hate unions have witnessed abuses in the past, and want to bring them back

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Wrong. Source: me.

It's true, even jobs with education are becoming more strict and laying down specific guidelines for pay and raises

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No Jabba no bargain!

5 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

In my previous job, security, we unionized less than 2 years before I quit. Short term? Oh boy the union folk were idiots ... But goddamn >

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Union: idiots who work in your interests. No Union: idiots working AGAINST your interests. First one is better

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is it fucking important to have a union in place! Having protections in place is so reassuring. Short term, unions may suck, long term A+++

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Everyone deserves a livable, working wage. Billionaire CEOs should care more about their workers than their second yacht!

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

Who downvotes a livable wage?!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Amazon sets their minimum wage at 15....

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

... since last month, because workers are threatening to unionize

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

I work in the steel industry. All the USW seems to do is fight for lazy do nothings.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Funny how there’s so much of this hatred and FUD about unions. Zero criticism of the powerful ultra-wealthy executives who do nothing

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

OK so you think that’s worse than being completely subject to wealthy CEO’s dominating them?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Worked in a USW glass factory. Yep.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That should make for some awkward dinner table conversations with their uncle-daddy in Alabama.

5 years ago | Likes 120 Dislikes 18

Oh so now it’s uncomfortable, it always has been just not to idiot parents. Why is it always bad if the tables turn ever so slightly?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You listen here nephson, we toil til we die in this house

5 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

All workers have the right to unionize!

5 years ago | Likes 901 Dislikes 19

Water has the right to un-ionize.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If IT unionized they'd rule the world.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hahaha tell that to the gaming industry

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fun fact in Denmark we don’t have a minimum pay by the law, it is just because of unions we have good minimum pay.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Always check how rich a person is that opposes unions.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't tell my mom, she thinks the only outcome of unions is people like Hoffa, and the mob.

5 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 0

And what's the outcome of capitalism?

5 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

People like Hoffa, and the mob

5 years ago | Likes 74 Dislikes 0

Worked oil fields in CO for years. Even the mention of union meant immediate termination. Even, hey that guy said union, both fired.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

So nobody in CO has guns?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Totally illegal but I believe that it happens

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I would set the oil field on fire before firing me thou.

That's why there are no on site butchers. Tried to unionize, now there's a wall of prepackaged factory food

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

that seems like it should be illegal.

A fine just means it's only illegal for those that can't afford to pay it.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why? The idea of a union is that an organization of skilled workers can hold power over those who employ them by being irreplaceable enmasse

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Amazon hired pinkertons to spy on them - https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-pinkerton-spies-worker-labor-unions-2020-11?r=US&IR=T

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Not spies, observers.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

I’m okay with that.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

You sound like you might be a bit of a cunt.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I sure am.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The anti-union training vid all management has to watch every year: https://youtu.be/AQeGBHxIyHw

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Warning sign of organizing is an absolutely totalitarian point of view, it is disgusting, also how is discussing a living wage a warning

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sign? Also the "associates" aka workers, are always mentioned last as "customers, shareholders AND associates" they are most definetly

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stapled on that sentence"

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you watch this is does help you understand the position. A union Amazon WH would probably get less $ hour and perform worse.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

They make min. $15/hour but everyone makes that even if you have special skills like LTOS

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Workers are humans not machines, they deserve liveable wages for humane work.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They only make "less" b/c companies will offer the nonunnon employees higher wages to breed discontent. As for performance, that's 1/

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

completely measurable and "lower" probably means "not sweatshop speed" but still my contract has performance goals with raises tied to it.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

People unionizing to have more voice is great. Immoral people taking control of the union after it is formed is the problem.

5 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 15

At least with a union, you get a vote and workers can vote corrupt people out. Not so for your owner, boss, or CEO.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That could be broadly applied: "Immoral people taking control of is the problem."

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Mishandling of union dues is one of the biggest problems with unions. Its a lot of money to manage and corrupts even those with good intent

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 21

You say this, but I'll raise you police unions. Unions are a weapon. The person wielding the weapon determines how much good they'll do.

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

Your phrasis is shit but your point id true

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I dont agree with your phrasing. It is accurate, but easily misunderstood.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Like police unions?

5 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

Those are more like fraternal organizations than actual unions

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

People working warehouse labor is different than above-the-law thugs with guns/grenades, assaulting the public, murder with immunity

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Agreed, but it’s still a question of quality of leadership.
