I'm American, but live and work in Turkey. Because Christmas isn't celebrated here, UPS was open and they delivered my Secret Santa gift on Christmas Day. Thanks, @Valron!

I love how precautious he was with the packaging.

Oooh, fun. He numbered them. You can definitely see he's put time and effort into the wrapping.

Yes! I now have a piece of internet meme culture. The horse head is great!

Let's see what number 2 has in store for us.

At first glance, I thought it was a book about types of birds. I was so pleasantly surprised after skimming through it and realizing what it really was (glad I did that before the kids started reading it). The birds in this book tell some of the craziest anecdotes. The following several images are a few of my favorite captions to each anecdote.

Wait... I can't find gift 3. It jumped to 4. At this point, I'm thinking it might have been taken at customs coming into the country. I decided to move on and solve that mystery later. Anyway, ooh, small package. Thanks for the compliment about my gifs!

Dicks out for Harambe, and the Chivas Regal out for this glass.

Ahh... found this little note among the wrapping. Number 3 is hidden somewhere.

One of my kids found it inside the horse's head.

No gift is complete without a banana for scale.

And the Jackpot! You see, this may be something that, for you guys, is just any old thing you can pick up at your local supermarket. However, here in Turkey, it's almost impossible to find. Maybe, there are a couple specialty stores in Istanbul or Ankara (and at ludicrously high prices), but it's nowhere to be found within hundreds of miles from me. We haven't had a real pancake with maple syrup meal in 4 years! I know, right?! That should be a crime. But now we have it. That sweet, sweet gold!

Thank you so much, @Valron! You've given us the best Christmas Day. No words can express how much the kids enjoyed the maple syrup, so I submit to imgur the following gif...

Pancake Tax

This makes me want to send you a case of pancake syrup.

+1 for the excited kids! Made me giggle!

Your little human looks so excited for the sugar high he's about to have. I love it.

I had to stop giving my kids syrup on anything once I realized they fought bitterly within minutes of eating it. It was like hate poison.

@Valron - as they can't see it if only tagged in the post!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's been changed since last week. Tags in titles and descriptions now send notifications to the user.

Nice! I still haven't gotten mine... :(

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's still time. Many people don't receive their gifts until after the holidays.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still have hope, yeah. Thanks for the reassurance, though!

I prefer fake maple syrup. We couldn't afford the real stuff growing up anyway.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a Canadian, that is NOT maple syrup. Not at all. Shame.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We loved it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So did your SS refill those with maple syrup? Those products as bottled are not even close to pure maple syrup! (am Canadian, gets offended)

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

We loved it. I know there are better quality syrups out there, but tbh, after 4 years of no pancakes at all, they tasted amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Ah okay so it’s just pancake syrup. Coolio, love me some aunt J on occasion.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Psh Forks are always optional

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How is that a secret Santa if you know who it is?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The pancake tax was a solid finish. 5/7

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But.. how big is that banana scale without a real banana..

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now I’m buying the book thanks @Op

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's short, but I found it thoroughly amusing.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

as a canadian I love seeing how happy your kids are with the syrup

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Thank you! A lot of people are commenting on the quality of the syrup, but we just enjoyed the fact that the kids loved it so much.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

never worry about them i prefer that stuff so its nice to see someone else enjoying it. the kids are total cuties and I hope you had

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Very nice of you to say. Thank you, and I hope you and yours had a great Christmas as well. Wish you the best for 2018! :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

a merry christmas

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

@op this is awesome. @valron you're awesome.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks, bro! Hope your holiday was fun.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It was. Nice to have time off. Haha. Hope yours was good as well. Take it easy brother

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They don't celebrate here, so I was at work. I ate pancakes, though. So all in all, it was a merry Christmas.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"We haven't had a real pancake with maple syrup meal in 4 years." I have bad news for you my friend. That isn't maple syrup.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Right he meant "liquid gold" as in prized possession, and "maple" as in "doesn't taste like pondwater and sand". Legit maple syrup is gross.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Too add to my previous comment: you can actually make that Aunt Jemima garbage by just boiling down brown sugar water. Yourself.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Legit maple syrup is amazing. The only reason Canadians buy the "other" stuff is because real maple syrup is expensive.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Glad you finally got some syrup, @OP! Hope you guys had a good Christmas!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks, Randy! I hope you and your family had a great time, too!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks, buddy. Yeah the kiddo came down with RSV, which he passed on to us, so we've been laid up for a few days.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorry to hear that. Get well soon, and I hope New Year's Eve makes up for it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks man. Hope y'all have a good one, too.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait a minute your from Turkey..?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm American, but I've been teaching English here in Turkey for 4 years.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Where in Turkey are you located?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I used to be in Eskisehir, but I moved to Kahramanmaras last year.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My friend used to study at Eskisehir university, he loved it. Kahramanmaras haven't heard of, I know more western areas. Stay safe OP!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Cool, im surprised Erdogan hasnt banned imgur.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

He did. You need vpn or do change your dns to access imgur and 4chan.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thought so. Thanks for the confirmation

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow, Turkey hey? That must have been an intense move. Can i ask what line of work you’re in? That may be too personal, and if so i apologize

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not too personal at all. I'm an English teacher. At the moment, I teach 5th graders at a private school.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh ya right on, very cool. What’s the weirdest/most different thing about living in the Middle East/Europe?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The school system. There's no failure. I mean there are students that should, but we have to pass them regardless.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yikes. Creating a generation of entitlement is what that does.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes. I've pointed out this issue before, but a single foreign teacher is not likely able to change a decades-old, nationwide system.
