Dude.. What printer is that? Mine is ok but that print quality and no droop on the overhang

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

v Neat!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Having a 3D printer myself I was just waiting for it to fail 3/4 though

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wait a second, the dish is round when it’s 3D printed and than square at the end! Something’s fishy!

Slower you slu...actually 9 days is kinda slow.

I don’t think I’ve ever favorited something so fast in my life

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Suh-wheat!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wow I feel suddenly like I live in the future

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why did you change infill density during print? And whats the layerhight? 0.1?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Now do a real one

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

how many parsecs would that take? almost 12?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I am irrationally mad

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh My Fuck!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Movie idea: culture that prints spaceships on demand (like this). No need for storage. Ship returns, converted to compact energy storage.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

At first I thought you meant movies should have 3D printed prop spacecraft. The realistic look of a model, with the expenndability of CGI

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that's actually how the federation makes most of their ships, huge ass replicators

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shit I forgot to hit record.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You must have really trusted your printer to do this!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Now do a house.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What a piece of junk!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You 3-D printed that thing? You're braver than I thought!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Excellent reply! at least 5 people got the reference ;-)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's a lot of work for a Frisbee

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you wouldn’t download a Millenium Falcon!!!

8 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 0

You wouldn't steal a baby

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The hell I wouldn't!

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

YOU WOULDN'T STEAL AN AT-AT!

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Pfft, I'd steal the pilot's handbag and then download pizza.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Twenty years from now we'll be laughing at how long these slow-ass printers took. Ten days, BWAAAHAHAHAHA

All i could think about watching this was "windows has encountered an issue with the force"

Remember when 56k Modems where the hottest shit around?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember downloading the Doom shareware installer on a 2400 baud modem. File was 4MB, I think. Took pretty much all day.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shit I remember downloading some... ehh, files off the internet that would take 5hrs on dialup. Now, god I love me some 200mbps speed.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and 20 years after that, we will be laughing at 3D printer.... Or the world at some point already vaporized.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

some years from now they will print from any molecule they like, ta da, replicators

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That much time in the print but the 3d model doesn't have enough polygons to look smooth once printed.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hope Imgur remains after 20 years... I would want to come back to your comment and show it to the then people.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

20 years from now, they'll probably have 3D printers that can move as fast as it appears to be going in this timeline.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Obviously. Its early days.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A CD use to take a few hours if you had those "speedy" 2x speed ones

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When people say they miss the good ole days, slow ass printers are one damn thing I don't miss. Dot-matrix printers & dial-up *shudder*

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Faster methods already exist.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Super-fast 3D printing, especially at scale, has HUGE industrial potential compared to now. Someone will figure it out.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I feel like a few years down the line itll take as long as this gif did

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This train can get me across the WHOLE NATION IN JUST 15 DAYS HOT DIGGITY

Someday the fastest way to travel will just be like in a Culture novel they just beam your consciousness across the galaxy

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

train conductors

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

course then they gotta grow you a new body, stick you in a sim, or delete you, so its considered rude to do it too often

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who knows, if we are still flesh and blood, by that time we may not care about what our body is like, and just use mass production ones.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And then someone will screw up and accidentally open up a portal into Hell. All I have to say after that is, rip and tear until it is done.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yep. *reloads shotgun*

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Silly person, the only reloading Doom has is ripping through something with a chainsaw to reload your ammo.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"And.. and.. and it didn't even print the interior!"

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Look up Carbon 3D. Super fast and does things impossible with conventional 3D printing

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Tea, Earl Grey, hot.

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Star Trek quality matter replicators: My lifelong wish.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Even when I was younger, I wanted it to be real

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One day

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Who knows, in 20 yrs this shit may be life size and yoh can make the kessel run in 12 parsecs.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Or less!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember a Jetsons cartoon when George’s boss looks out the window and sees a 3D printer build a building in 5 seconds and says 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

He remembers back in his day when it took an hour to build an entire building.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I remember burning cds on my 1x burner, carefully leaving the room and making sure nobody touched the computer for like an hour

8 years ago | Likes 255 Dislikes 0

I remember being greedy and opening my browser while holding my breath that it wasn't enough to buffer underrun. Sometimes it was enough.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The MPman mp3-player took 20 minutes to transfer 60 min worth of music.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Had MpMan F20, 12 songs fit in it with 96kbps

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. I used to have binders full of CDs because they were cheaper than HDDs when you bought stacks of 50-100 CDs on sale.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That was a little after but yeah, I had literal books of completely legal copies of things.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, books full of legal "digital back-ups"

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

shareware duke nukem 3d was like 9 discs to copy, it took nearly 20 mins a disc

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Mega

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Omg I remember that shit! And when you later burned at too high a speed the CD player wouldn't play it! How did we survive?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I remember downloading porn pics, and jerkin off while it was loading. Prob the reason why I find eyes so attractive.

8 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 0

got tea in my keyboard - now you owe me a new key board mate.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Beautiful hair, beautiful eyes, beautiful breasts *furiously masturbating* , SHIT SHE HAS A DICK!!! FUCK AHH SHIT I JUST CAME TO A DUDE

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

there is much truth here

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this is the most underrated comment i've seen in some time

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Oh god her eyes, oh yeah.... look the top of her boobs, OMG... Finally NIPPLES!! ...andddd finished...

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

How much $$$? (Power, filaments)

8 years ago | Likes 162 Dislikes 3

Materials cost is a fraction of labor cost. You need to keep an eye and ear on that machine the entire time. $1,700 labor for min wage dude.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

not really. use a remote camera and just check up on it once in awhile.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Need to include 10 days of that machine. Cap equip cost goes into normal factory, needs to go into this too.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Cheaper than Lego

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What isn't? :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Serious Q what happens if there is a power cut? Will it resume from its point if power loss automatically?

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

depends on the printer and the setup. some printers resume. Most people use a UPS for prints this long to keep it from happening

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

no unfortunately it doesn't resume

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Highly depends on the model >_> The machines costing 10-100K like this one, resumes for sure. The 200$ hobby models rather not.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the industry, an UPS is standard anyways.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was thinking the same thing. Then OP could post half of a millenium falcon

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

New kit for mine that will be here in January will resume

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3kg filament costs about $80 to $120 for the standard polymers. Power should be around $10 (assuming 100W draw). So $100-$150, give or take.

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 3

9 days * 24h * 0.1Kw * 0.2€/$ per Kwh = 4.32 €/$

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I ran 10 days * 24h * 0.1kW * 0.25$/kWh = $6, and rounded up to "about $10", considering the large unknowns here (kWh-price, power draw)

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nowadays PLA filament is much better quality for the super cheap stuff. Amazon sells 1kg rolls for around 10 bucks. 1/?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The power is going to be similar to running a computer with high end hardware. That printer is home made, and would probably cost a LOT 2/?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

of time and money to build. You're better off having it printed for you off shapeways. If you're interested in 3d printing I would 3/?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

suggest getting an ender2 or creality cr-10 as they are cheap, newbie friendly and print very high quality for the price. 4/4

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Half the fun is getting it to work

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, but most people aren't going to run the cheaper stuff through their printer on a long print like that, too much risk of clogging.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Clogs are caused by dust and other contaminants getting into the extruder. I've been using the cheap stuff for years with no clogs. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The worst you get with filament nowadays is inconsistencies with thickness and air bubbles, the quality is much better. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No trouble with inconsistent filament diameter, air bubbles or brittleness? What brand are you buying please?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Several different brands, ZiRO from amazon is one of my favorites. They have flash sales for their filaments. And no, I haven't had 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3 rolls of 2.2 pounds of grey pla filiamnt 15 dollars a roll. 45 + say 3 bucks of power to run the 3d printer

8 years ago | Likes 134 Dislikes 1

If your printer, computer, and lights use a total of 100 watts avg you're at about $3.50 for 10 days of power....

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Running off a raspberry pi

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not a bad price for 7 pounds of WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And ten days rental on the machine?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sure he's in the 20-30 price range if it's PLA, and closer to 50 a roll for the better stuff. 15$ rolls are questionable at best.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And on a long print you don’t want to risk shitty filament.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Way cheaper than the Lego equivalent

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

$1 of power is more than enough to run the 3D printer for a while, and you can get 5 lb reels for cheaper. prob $35 total

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Yeah but getting the cheaper filament will most likely muck up the print though

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I'm using the 24$ 1kg rolls of PLA on mine, and it can still have quality control problems. That's with a lot of mods to the printer too.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wow, much better than expected. I was expecting about as much as just buying a real space ship.

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Probably not. That ship is GARBAGE

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 6

Dont forget paints to make it look decent

8 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

I bet it's cheaper than painting a Warhammer army!

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

*Cries in empty wallets and boxes full of unpainted minies*

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I really doubt they were using 15$ pla. Because this guy seems to know what hes doin. And 15$ pla is shit

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Plus the thousands of dollars for a printer that can handle a print of this size, much less have accuracy without support material!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This did not count the cost of the printer. A 500 $l delta printer could do it. Just not that big.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, size of print is a big thing with cost of printer. I really want to get a decent printer for my house, but the size of bed n mat type

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Couple hundred

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would legitimately like to know where i can get that printer. The one i work with at work has heated bed and costed $$$$$hitloads

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a shity Pursa A8 has heated bed and such. You can get good prints if willing to tinker with it

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
