Kick-Ass Game Music

Dec 10, 2014 3:25 PM

Some of you might've seen this Advice Mallard before, but I gave it a shot and the music really does help with concentration. All of the songs I have listed I play while working out, but If I have work to do I'll pop these in as well.

These are some of my favorites from recent games I've played. Obviously this list is not all-inclusive, and I'd love to see your suggestions of other kick-ass video game soundtracks!

Mass Effect

Lead Composer: Jack Wall (ME1&2)/Clint Mansell (ME3)

Normandy Reborn: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKXd4dxQ19w)

Suicide Mission: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTsD2FjmLsw)

The Fleet Arrives: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m-vRZnUFxg)

The Battle of Menae: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLawoP3jP5I)

The Battle for Earth: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68MKak8ohtE)

Half-life 2

Lead Composer: Kelly Bailey

Vortal Combat: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZRNd6osQrk)

Sector Sweep: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4hft34WRYw)

Universe at War: Earth Assault

This one might've flew under the radar for a lot of people, I only picked it up because it was so cheap, but I'm glad I did. Frank Klepacki (of Command and Conquer/Hell March Fame) put together the sound track, and it's an incredible background for IMO one of the best console RTS's out there.

Damage King: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCmCz4_tyT4)

Haunt: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpcLhbBJbKQ)

Devine Intervention: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKW7yGsCMxQ)

HELL MARCH BONUS:

Red Alert: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb-gI_pFog0)
Red Alert 2: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WqwFhX6Cqg)
Red Alert 3: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3rGO2WhZGg)

Halo (3/ODST)

Lead Composer: Martin O'Donnell

Released: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXkwaCN4h10)

Behold a Pale Horse: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDSQbCYrXu0)

Three Gates/One Final Effort:(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QjeoWeBzhg) / (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIDR5ZBQBfo)

Air-Traffic Control: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2WNn4NnjnU)

Borderlands 2

OST by Jesper Kyd (Assassins Creed), Cris Velasco (Gears of War) and Raison Varner (Gearbox)

Bloodshot Ramparts:
(Normal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOzwPinlrjA)
(Extended: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4FLi1DFYSc)

^My Go-To Music when I attempt a PR. Also a great lifting tempo for higher-rep work.

Southern Shelf Battle: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Y4emYPQj5Y)

Three Horns Combat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Txc-CcdquvM

Edit: @MinaMooshie put together a playlist of these songs and others mentioned in the comments (http://8tracks.com/minamooshie/gamer-therapy). I advise others to check it out, and also upvote their page! :)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AS much as I know this will be downvoted. World of Warcraft and they symphony are amazing, in all their albums.

Twisted Streets was stuck in my head for about a month. Amazing soundtracks.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And Transistor! Same composer, same studio.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't forget about Transistor

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 2

Darren Korb is a god among men. Ok, I might be exaggerating just a bit. But not by much.

Also, look up the soundtrack to Bionic Commando: Rearmed. You're welcome.

composer walked in, case of beer in one hand, guitar in the other hand and without saying a word, locked himself in a broom closet and 2/3

Yes! However, it's a port. They didn't fix any of the issues, camera angles, glitches. Still fun though.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

How bad are the issues?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They vary, controls being twitchy, poor camera angles, poor A.I. http://www.destructoid.com/review-jet-set-radio-234681.phtml sums it up.
