It's my birthday next month, and seeing as how I have no friends I thought I'd go someplace different. Hence Vienna.

It was only after booking the flights that I realised I know nothing about Vienna or Austria beyond the Sound of Music. Also Mozart died there, apparently. I was thinking of just packing a decent pair of walking shoes and loading up Pokemon Go for a few days and letting that decide, but when you say that out loud, it sounds incredibly stupid.

@easytigger I live in Vienna. Just PM me and I can answer u questions

Please don't ask Austrians about "The Sound of Music", most of us have never heard of it, it actually has NOTHING to do with our culture.

Try some Geocaching. When I go on trips, it's a fun way to explore new cities! Get to see some sights, and check out places locals love.

Have fun OP

Eat all the food! Also you can spend a lot of time in the Museumsquartier https://www.mqw.at/en/ , it's a gorgeous place!

We could meet and I show you some cheap bars

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For the sausages?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It sounds fantastic and I hope you have a wonderful time! Wish I was brave enough to book a trip & just go. Depression/anxiety sucks.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Anxiety/depression does indeed suck. I'm in an upswing right now, so I'm forcing myself to capitalise on it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's even better then - go explore, have fun and be safe. Hugs!

You know....this means nothing to me.....this means nothing to me....ohhhhhhhh VIENNAAAAAAA

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I was just about to write this. Great minds....

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I quip this line ANY time Vienna comes into conversation....the amount of seethe it generates from the better half just encourages me more.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

if you are into fat chicks, the "Kunsthistorisches Museum" is currently showing a Rubens exhibit. Its worth a visit anyways

Valor is red, mystic is blue. Instinct is the kid that eats glue. :)

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

If you say "Instinct's" instead of "Instinct is", it fits the metre better.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I haven't played In quite a while But I'll still say Fuck you with a smile

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Note: Our political parties are colour coded, so don't say that in public. Most people don't like getting into political arguments.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 16

... That's in reference to the meme template, which here was misused

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

... Right. Maybe I've been discussing politics too much recently...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

This means nothing to me

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a friend who is doing an intership in Vienna. She says the food is great, with lovely parks. Lots of palaces and historic buildings!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

CAKES!! Cakes you fool.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Vienna is a very historical city. Nearly any modern historical figure you can think of spent some time in that city. Enjoy it!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey Viennese here. Hit me up if you‘d like a tour ????

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you are Irish even better cause I live in Dub for 5 years. I get ya....

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's for the cakes you idiot, the cakes. Vienna has some of the best cake makers in the known Universe and Zaphod Beeblebrox agrees.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you need anything while in Vienna, you can just PM me.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Any guess how much I'd need for 6 days? Well, 5 1/4, really.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Stay away from the Hop-on Hop-off Busses, they are really not needed. You can go to every major Destination just by walking or taking the 1/

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Subway. A Ticket for the Subway/Train in Vienna is fairly cheap. https://tickets.oebb.at/en/ticket is your way to go. 2/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well depends on what you want to do really...if you want to do just sightseeing it wouldnt cost you much. Roughly guessing 250~400€

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One more thing: The police (133) are generally friendly and very well trained; You can rely on them. Doc (144) and Fire (122).

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*Fabulous*, sorry

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depending on when your birthday is, you can go to the Christmas markets. One of my favorite things to do when I was there. Also standing 1/?

8 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 1

room at the Staatsoper is a great way to see a world class opera for only 3/4 euros. Will need a scarf. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Just standing. Nothing more to see here. Standing is the recommendation.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Vienna is great. If your going to Salzburg I recommend crossing into Germany and hiking up to the Eagles nest.

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Salzburg is amazing. really friendly people.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I also love Salzburg. The salt mines are a must, Konigsee is beautiful (take the boat tour). I also really enjoyed eagles nest.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don’t forget the finger cookies!!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

DAMMIT someone beat me to the joke

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Fun fact: we dont call them like that here in vienna, we call them "frankfurters" :)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wonder what they call Vienna sausages in Frankfurt then

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It sound stupid, yes, but it also sounds highly effective. Vienna is beautiful, and you'll likely find neat stuff anywhere you go.

8 years ago | Likes 385 Dislikes 1

Hill of Crosses! Most random, middle-of-no-where-wtf place ever!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Geocaching. A lot of caches have brief histories of their sites attached. Also... documentaries are a fun way for highlights on the plane.

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

in my experience, that actually works in vienna ;) so have fun there

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hear they make good sausages too

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When I visited Vienna, we just went around with that mentality. It was a bad idea. Should have asked where to go.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you look up from your phone... [Very tired GF whose BF still plays PoGo like all the time]

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Look for a chocolate called 'Mozart Balls' and get 50 of them. You'll thank me after.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Plus he won't get shot there.

8 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 0

Unless an American follows him there - an American

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Might not. The possibility is always there.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And won't be killed/raped by Syrians because Austria didn't let in any refugees

8 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 16

I agree

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 6

There is a shitload of museums there and a fantastic zoo. Landtmann’s cafe for a proper Viennese coffee. Turkey, Czech and Slovakia close by

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Only if you'd consider 10th district as Turkey, which would be rude. Otherwise Turkey is some hours per plane.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

oops. Hungary.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm currently studying abroad near Vienna. Great choice, one of the cleanest, most vibrant cultures you could've picked. I'd love to (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lolwut? Went to Vienna last year large parts were kind of a shithole

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 17

Must've changed over a year. And if you explore outside of simply Vienna, there's even more to feast the eyes upon.
