You know you forgot the landing gear when it takes max power to taxi to the gate.

5 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Watched similar happen at work except after he struck runway he tried to climb back up and go around (?!) They never made it. Went into

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A house just past the runway. Not something you expect to see when you clock in. The NTSB report was stunning..lots of shit decisions.

Textbook handling on an emergency landing.

5 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

That was as smooth as a smooth thing.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Raw doggin the runway!

"JM2R3, tower, landing gear appears fucked, hard copy."

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Former aircraft maintainer and have dealt with landing gear malfunctions. So. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Would I be right in saying that wasn't fire coming out the back of the plane bit was instead liquid money?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If not liquid money, it's liquid airplane

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Congrats to the pilot do wonder though how much damage is done to the runway when these things happen

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mad skills

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That will buff right out

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Very close to having this happen to me once. It was foggy and there was a malfunction so they didn’t know if landing gear was down. Scary

An advanced technique known as "lithobraking"

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That was really well done. Even if I walk away with a fudge bottom, at least I'm walking away.

5 years ago | Likes 504 Dislikes 0

I'm guessing the flames were caused by your pre-fudge farts?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I will gladly take a man size dump in my durango's over death, any day.

Skid marks.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure pilots keep an extra set of pants in the cockpit for just such an occasion

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A good landing is any landing you can walk away from.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A great landing means that you can use the plane again.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this plane IS ON FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRE

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not as long as the skid mark in @op's shorts.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't remember having Chipotle for dinner...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Next time, please use the landing gear" - Plane owner, probably

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Having worked on my share of IFEs, sometimes equipment fails, and this was beautifully handled.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No one forgot anything, this was a very well done wheels-up landing with fire crews ready to go

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What the fuck does one say to the passengers before that happens?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Put your head between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye. I mean -- Assume the brace position.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Pucker up!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Gosh darn Hero

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I want to say I remember CNN showing this live. Really impressive.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What event was this?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As I remember, it wasn't any event, it was a plane that had a malfunctioning landing gear that would not lower so it had to belly slide

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All things considered, that was a fantastic landing

5 years ago | Likes 1014 Dislikes 0

Every emergency landing you can walk away from is a good opportunity to sue.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Ye, but he's light , not a 200 tones airbus, that makes the difference

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hell of an emergency landing, for sure.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Woulda been pretty cool if the wheels came down tho.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Check this one out too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgnkY4xzaZE

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was just coming down here to post that. Very calmly and cleanly done.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yea the grpahics on Simulator X are amazing

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.

5 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

A great landing is one where you can use the plane again

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And if you dont write the aircraft off its perfect.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Absolutely stellar execution. Landing without the wheels required him to come in much more level or risk slapping the tail down first

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Is the plane a write off after that or is it repairable?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Most of the time. But even with a scrapped structure they are full of juicy juicy parts. And still worth lots of dollerydoo

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Which can...break the tail off or deform it at best. Or cause a tumble at worst. Tumble = bad

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I was on a plane that this happened to once... well not exactly i think the wheels came down but the slowing flaps wouldnt work. It was 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pretty scary when they made the announcement and lots of wailing from passengers. Landed like a champ though and all was well.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Still was weird getting off the plane with a bunch of fire trucks/ems and dudes in flame retardant suits and stuff to greet us.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If they had to rely on the brakes alone, there's an ENORMOUS amount of heat in there. Enough to light tires on fire potentially.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, I figured that. Thank goodness the pilot did a good job and everything worked out ok.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Indeed! I've been on a flight greeted by fire engines, it's a bit stressful.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That'll buff right out. Little wax and no one will notice.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

And speed tape. Can't forget the speed tape.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bondo!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Just a little smudge.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tis but a scratch!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting (?) fact: the bottom of these planes are reinforced for exactly that reason.

5 years ago | Likes 389 Dislikes 2

so... what you're saying is... dem planes be dummy thicc?

5 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 3

I was just gonna ask, do you think they could fix it? Or is it a total loss after that.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I recall an F-15 Eagle being repaired and returned to service after it lost a wing in a mid-air collision. Israeli-owned though

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

most likely an insurance writeoff. this plane (hawker 800?) is pressurized, so structural repair is gonna be a b**ch.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It would be very expensive to re cert it. Think: Every inch of support structure would have to be x-rayed. No point, just scrap it.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Total loss for sure.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not exactly reinforced, but designed for survivability if this happens. Some have a skid rail or beam under critical areas, but not all.

5 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 0

Things like connecting the floor to the sides instead of to the bottom make sure the floor doesn't punch up into the cabin if this happens.

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Name checks out. I trust what you say.

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Agreed. No doubt this dude is our resident expert.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Go on...

5 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

I worked out last week

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Im proud of you

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Re-enforced for this? Not exactly. But designed with this as a last ditch effort to save the passengers at the expense of the plane sure

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I'm stupid so I'll lead with that but with my limited cognitive skills it sounds like you're agreeing with him and then repeating yourself.

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

You're not stupid. The distinction I made was minor and only really matters if you're breaking it down to some serious nerd shit. I'm a nerd

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You are note stupid. A bit overcautious in your comments, maybe. But then again, times are tough.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The only difference I was pointing out is that the term re-enforced would imply the plane would be functionally ok after this

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I doubt anybody is wondering, but this was well communicated with the airport. Fire trucks already at every turn off.

5 years ago | Likes 355 Dislikes 2

It helped me reminisce.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was wondering, but my dad was a ff and went to many plane crashes, so I was sad the gif was too short to see.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is there some reason not to pre foam that runway?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

More than 140 characters can fit probably. I'd guess friction, waste, cleanup, and not actually preventing the plane from being on fire.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So there was a firetruck at golden showers?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Heh

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've seen either a longer version of this, or a similar clip, where fire trucks were all over the plane the second it stopped.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

If it's any consolation, I was wondering.

5 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 1

I, indeed, was wondering and was consoled. Thank you.

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I too was wondering, and now feeling consoled.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is just guessing. But I imagine there is a notification about the landing gear if you go below a certain height... or speed.

5 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

The one plane I know warns you loudly if you go anywhere near a ground-pointing direction without gear down. Bitching Betty does her job.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

there is... sometime that alarm is what can bring the plane down though ;) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Air_Lines_Flight_401

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it was an episode of air crash investigations... https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7u0q94

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Airline pilot here- ours is based on alt, flap configuration, and thrust lever position. Loud high pitched horn starts blaring.

5 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Do you know this from training? Or experience? :D

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Both. We can occaaionally be in normal situations where it'll happen as a nieusance warning.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Problem is when pilots mute/ignore the warning cause it's a nuisance.. Have seen it happen several times in aircraft maintenance.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I looked it up. For the most part, there is. (And it's because small a light indicator, didn't seem to cut it)

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Need a bondulance there, friend?

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I guess I do. :D I could probably need some sleep.
