Actually, when you're running for president, you only get a limited amount of air time, so using it on something like SNL would be silly.
This is why Colbert announcing he was running for president was an issue, because they'd have had to put the Colbert Report on hold.
And the whole Colbert thing wasn't an issue since it was a joke an entire time.
