I'm always worried about the "Sardine Can" when driving trucks.

I left a dent in a hotel once; they gave me the wrong measurements for the clearance on the loading dock for a delivery I was having done.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In my place the truck drivers usually deflate the tyres little by little till they reach just under the clearance limit

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure trucks arent even allowed on the bridge-tunnel

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am less confident in what looks like a rise in the road at the end of that tunnel

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No jouncing! No jouncing! No jouncing!... WHAAAMMMYYYYYY

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That looks like the HRBT here in Virginia!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's almost like there is a standard and it was designed to accommodate that standard.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the HRBT

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One pothole...one little pothole

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1. The truck is 13 ft 6 inches tall if the sign says anything above that you go. 2. Probably driver been there many times and knows.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep, I go under a 13'7" bridge all the time. If I'm driving the same equipment, I know it's going to fit.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And what if someone lost a dime...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When you're confidant that there are no illegal immigrants riding on top.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah the sardine can bridge: http://greatbig.is/2kmHGQB

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you hit even one bump...

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Or have new or overinflated tires, or if the road hasn't been repaved, or run over a match stick someone threw out the window....

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you even hit the brakes aggressively...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I would be choosing a different route, it wouldn't be worth risking my job over a miscalculation.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't tell you how much times I've taken my truck under a low bridge that my trailer was supposedly higher than 4.2m, 3.8m is the lowest1/

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 is the lowest bridge I've gotten under I know I'm trying my luck though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Time to cringe. https://www.youtube.com/user/yovo68/videos

These are great. Thanks.

Meanwhile, in North Carolina...https://youtu.be/USu8vT_tfdw (Durham's 11ft8 bridge)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

HRBT I think

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yup

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Should also be "when you're 100% confident that engineering/construction/architecture somehow all worked out to give an accurate clearance"

9 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 4

And that there will be no signs hanging from the ceiling... :/

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

and that there isn't the slightest bump on the floor

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Am I the only one that read fucking?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or you just drove right in and got really damn lucky.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is def going to scrape once it gets to the upturn of that hill. Imagine a line going down a U, getting to the bottom, and then going up

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That moment when he realises, after exiting the tunnel, that he could've aired out the suspension.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Sure, if he wants to fuck his driveshaft. And make the rear of the trailer higher. And lock up the trailer's brakes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So, what you're saying is, trucks over there are so dated that trailers don't commonly have bags too?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They have airbags, but the vast majority of van trailers do not have a way of releasing the air in ONLY the air bags.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No room for fighting on top of the trailer...

9 years ago | Likes 414 Dislikes 0

How come they never just pull over

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"We've got hop-ons, time to use the south tunnel"

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, so this isn't another Matrix reboot trailer?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aha! The silver lining.

9 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 1

What about Ant-Man?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You havent heard about antman havent you?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or imagine hitting a speed bump

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If he hits a bump it's all over

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What is this, an epic fighting scene for ants?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They're fighting ontop, but when the bridge comes up, they both have to hang off the side, makes it way more intense.

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

And continue to fight

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, they could do it on top if they were Hermes.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel.

9 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 4

Thought that looked familiar

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

HRBT

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

right?! that's exactly what i thought. must be. looks just like it

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'd put money on it. Followed a few trucks through there and was scared thinking they would hit

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuck all of the hr tunnels

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I thought it was familiar haha I drive thru it a bit, then I saw this is turning into a VA gathering

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey, Virginia people! Hello fellow Virginians

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hello!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel is one lane each way in the tunnels (drive it 3 times a week) HRBT or M and M maybe

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Ahhh good point.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought it looked familiar. My sister & brother-in-law have been stationed in Norfolk for 7yrs & I've visited a few times

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We charge it to our clients. It is pricey though. It seems like everywhere you want to go in the tidewater is getting tolls now!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ooh Hampton roads people. I live in Norfolk too.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also sorry for your wallet that's a spendy bridge

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was stationed in Norfolk, and I gotta say, I don't miss it. This is definitely the HRBT. MM had a lot more space in it.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Fact.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel I am pretty sure

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Yep

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol yup drive through there everyday and semis always worry me.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*slows down to 35 mph for no reason*

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I will never understand that. It drives me crazy

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

*smashes brakes a few times with no one in front* just to be safe ofc

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Done enough front rail/roof repairs to know that was just blind luck. Vast majority just plow full speed into the top of the tunnel.

9 years ago | Likes 122 Dislikes 4

nah, it's shopped

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Are you sure it wasn't just a blind truck?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I used to rent out trucks like these for enterprise; this makes me super uncomfortable.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I engineer for stoughton, those front walls are not as strong as you think

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When you cross into new york on the george washington bridge with a 13'6" clearance it looks like this

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And those air bags... that's the only margin for error there.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are you sure it wasn't just a blind truck?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I triple check and approach at minimum speed if I'm not sure.

9 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 0

Literally the first thing I do when driving a new truck is get out the tape measure and check the clearance.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Same here.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

When I got my new truck I measured the height. 370/370cm front/rear. But 365/360cm when I lower the air suspension.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also through experience have gained knowledge of different bridges and tunnels real height. Sometimes it is fitting within the cm.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What if you drive over a pebble 0.0

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You should look up "11foot8" on YouTube. Real famous bridge.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Was just going to suggest that. Have an upvote instead.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It got new signage that unfortunately seems to be working

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

They got a traffic light & height sensors, the light stays red extra long to give drivers an opportunity to turn/realize their mistake.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh... Bummer, I think.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No more tin canning vids for entertainment......but on the bright side companies aren't losing thousands in repairs....

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, you did say youtube... Was wondering wheretf u sent me when i saw what I can't unsee.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What have you seen mysterious knowledge man

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He doesn't even know.
