You can tell some of the volunteers were probably just getting off of work or school. That's amazing. Stay strong Mexico!

Mexicanguy
i was really moved when i saw so many volunteers working so hard they are real heroes
Lolzorski
Saw the video of those kids being rescued. That was overwhelming. Really hope they save everyone and no more victims are discovered.
MexImgurian
As a father of two, that video crushed my heart!
iamthestigscanadiancousin
That silent cheering for the heroes doing such draining work...heart rending.

This is the kind of stuff that defines a nation, and I love seeing such coalition in tough times.

Fuck yea, humanity. I also feel kinda bad I can't help out in these kind of situations cause I'm so far away.

Fuerza México!
ghostwriter2030
I dunno what it means, but yeah! That!
MrLenin
A bit like Viva México, but more triumphant and strength related than just 'long live' is my guess.
justanaveragecrazycatlady
It's similar to 'stay strong'

I hate to say it, but I'm glad the media has been covering these disasters. I'm so tired of the divide being forced upon us.
ashbee
So since they sent aide into houston, are we sending aide to them?
OneFun
Would be the right thing to do.
idonthavetimeforthiseither
They weren't allowed into the US, were they? Thanks Obama
GadenKerensky
Other than the Cartels and certain Government Officials, Mexicans are like any other people; they want a peaceful life, and will help others
onnani
As an American who's traveled Mexico; I routinely tell Americans it's the biggest thing their missing. Such an amazing country!
idonthavetimeforthiseither
Completely agree. Outside of TJ, Mexicans are friendly and the hardest workers I've ever known
GadenKerensky
TJ?
MexImgurian
He might refer to Tijuana, but you will find amazing people all over Mexico. The good ones are the most!
idonthavetimeforthiseither
Tijuana for sure. It's been too influenced by American...flash? Plus too many bars, strip joints, hookers and you see people so poor...
4thwalled
These people are Mexi-"cans". Faith in humanity restored.

paeches
learned that in school. no movement, just straight up open hand. probably to help get attention. surprised people never "heard" of it.
TransistorRadio
I don't get what's happening in the gif. What good does holding up their hand do?
mythbird
Once everyone is silent, if someone hears a sound you point towards where it came from, multiple people pointing will show intersecting area
trevasaurusrex
It's a way for everyone in the crowd to know that the search crew needs silence. It also serves to remind yourself to stay silent.
questionableanswers
Hands up = everybody be silent. Rescuers can't hear cries for help or burried people knocking on things when the crowd talks
TransistorRadio
So it's not really "hand signals", it's more like "hold hand up and be quiet". I thought maybe they were actually communicating other stuff
Cataleast
It's very much "hand signals". In the army we were to repeat all hand signals so even people not in line of sight of the officer got it.
NormalVariant
It is a hand signal. The rescuers give the signal and others copy so that people not close enough to the signal also get the message.
