What the hell has happened? It's like Imgur just opened the floodgates and now there are ads everywhere. Got ads in the posts. Got ads every 2 posts. JFC I have never seen so many damned ads on this platform.

Edit: The huge amount of ads are on the app. I do use ad blockers when I browse on my PC at home. The app is ad city.

Services cost money. Piss off, leech.

Hack #1 Get adblocker. Hack #2. Move to Europe where the ads are very absent, yet.

I should have specified that this is on the Imgur app.

Use firefox with ublock instead on mobile. Why use an "app"?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ad blocking is our defense against the ever-increasing enshittification.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Shut your pi-hole! I don't see any ads!

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Androids can install Firefox, DuckDuckGo and Ublock Origin.

It's not about the quantity, it is about quality. And the quality of ads is bad.

For Android... Vivaldi Browser with ad and tracker blocking enabled. Access imgur via desktop mode. 140 comment limit, but no ads...

you guys see ads?

1 year ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 1

I haven't seen ads for years. Also good to see you Woozle

Earn 100k up votes and you get the ad free experience. Plus the warm fuzzy feeling from having so many up votes...

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Fun fact: It's 110K now. That's what it took, for me anyway.

Demand a refund.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Everyone wants to make money.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It's conditioning so you'll pay for imgur premium.

1 year ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

...or just contribute enough to the community, and they give it to you for free.

Hopefully they'll have a good competitor to Imgur soon and we can use that instead.

They took mine away this year. I had it for like 6-7 years.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My understanding is they issued it for free once upon a time to a lot of people who didn't meet the general criteria, and retracted them this year. It's still free if you hit 100,000pts.

Get 100k upvotes, and they magically dissappear. It took 4 weeks of hard-core shit posting to get there after my permaban.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Newsflash: they recently bumped it to 110K (just to fuck with me, I suppose).

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hot it a couple of weeks ago. Not at 110K yet, but still no ads

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Interesting. The day I passed 110, they awarded it. People had told me that's where they set it, and they were right.
Maybe they put it back to 100 or dropped it to 105 of something.

the amount of people who use imgur without adblocker is too damned high

1 year ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 4

Well the only browser with effective adblocking plugins is Firefox. And the number of people using Firefox is too damned low. I'm hoping that Google's bullshits with neutering adblocking plug ins for all things Chrome (looking at you Brave, Edge, Opera, etc.) that users will come back to Firefox before it vanishes.

I've not had any issue with chrome (yet)

On top of running Vivaldi, I run uBlock Origin and AdNauseum, coupled with Ad Guard's DNS servers. Triple layer protection. Unless Google tries to monopolize DNS servers, we'll always have a defense.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Vivaldi is Chrome based.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Literally the same thing. Chrome is chromium. They share the same code base.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They're probably using the app.
Which you can still block ads on if you're using pi-hole on your home network.

1 year ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I'm pumping my dns through ad guard's servers. Haven't seen a single ad.

I've got a raspberry pi zero computer on my network with pihole installed on it. My router points at the pihole as a DNS (domain name server) and on the pihole I have block lists. Each time a machine connects to the Internet it first goes through the pihole for websites address. If it encounters anything in the block list it won't load, and as webpages use info from ad sites you could load up a page and the ads will be blocked while the rest of the pages loads. It can often times work in apps.

As an example pihole network on the left and without on the right.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Adblock. Seriously, it's necessary self-defense these days.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

How do they make things without ad money..... you know like this free app?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey acher... how weak you must be to block someone over this. Do better my dude...

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they want money from ads, they should stop serving toxic ads so we wouldn't have to defend themselves. That said, I have Emerald, so, no ads...

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wait.... you don't have ads? But having ad blockers are " self defence" ???? Lol have a nice day 😊

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't have ads ***ON THIS SITE*** - ads are everywhere else, pretty much... so yeah, I fucking need ad blocking...

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I think that's an American thing.... all I see is temu ads and maybe some for Australian banks....

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm European

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1
