He took me to to Mama's nest to see if the goslings had hatched yet (they were due to hatch today or tomorrow). She hatched a few by the time we made it down. She ultimately hatched 8.

Didn't catch it on video but she caught the treat several times in mid air.

The daddy goose usually chills out on the other side of the pond when my dad comes down. He was sticking around really close the day the babies hatched.

I hope nothing ever happens to these guys. My dad looks forward to them coming back every year. He set up a motion activated alarm all around her nesting site after he heard coyotes one night. He's got a spotlight and his rifle set up next to the door to confront whatever may be after his geese.

Edit: gonna tell my dad he made Front Page! He has no interest in social media but I'm proud of him ?

Who else remembers the movie Fly Away Home?

It seems the cobra chicken does not understand it's getting food.

They're Canada Geese. If they claim to be Canadian geese ask to see their passport.

no interest in social media? that's probably why he has time to do shit like defend geese from coyotes

Lol yes! My dad is a wonderful hillbilly-redneck nature loving hybrid.

I truly think humanities purpose in life is to help the animals. They get it tough too.

This story made me happy. Long live that man.

Thank you so much. I appreciate you saying that.

Tell your dad to feed them healthy food like a nutritionally complete pelleted chicken feed and fruits and vegetables; avoid bread. The

6 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

geese will appreciate real food as much as junkfood. If you feed bread only feed whole or multigrain; white bread is almost like candy. I

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

can't see what he's feeding the goose in the video, it looks like a whole or multigrain bread to me. That's good, but a handful of chicken

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

feed would be a step up.

Can we have some more please

I'll post more if I can!

Does that mean they're good eating??

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good on him. Also: Canada* Geese

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Do they have names?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope he hasn't ever named them. He just excited says "My geese are back!" every year. Just calls them Momma goose and Daddy goose.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thats the cutest!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hairsplitting, I know, but we call them "Canada Geese", not Canadian Geese. I don't know why this bugs me so much. Sorry

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's okay. I always thought it was Canadians geese but I've been told I'm wrong multiple times in these comments. I'll try my best next time

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

wow, I'm not the only anal retentive Canadian. Don't know if I should be relieved or even more embarrassed.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just an FYI. It's Canada geese. They're not from Canada, but named after ornithologists John Canada.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Canada gooses are majestic.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please don't let that be bread he's tossing. That's just super not good... Especially if that's on the ground all around her.

6 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

There's always one

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yep, good intentions don't mean good results. I'll be the one to point out the science behind this.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A few mouthfuls of bread isn't a big deal, a whole meal of bread is.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 7

The amount of bread in the video, if that's all the white stuff on the ground is. Because it's more than just a mom, it's the goslings as

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

well. The bread is high carb and science shows us that bread allowed to go moldy or get wet and sit outside leads to various infections and

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

disease for the birds. Basically, yes... a little isn't a "big" deal, but given the availability of better alternatives and the readily

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

available information on just how detrimental this is, good intentions don't always mean good actions. He would likely be mortified and

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I do not like the cobra chickens

6 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Have you tried being nice to them?

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I mean I've tried minding my own business on the walking trail. They just get all sorts of ballsy for something I 100% can and will eat.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry that happened to you

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's cool though. I raise my arms and make noise and they go away. They act hard until they realize they ain't.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Chick pics pls!

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Pond looks very clear. Keep us informed please.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Okay! He keeps it pretty balanced with the fish he put in over the years. I used to swim in that pond often as a child.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sounds like a great place to live. I took this photo at a local pond a few years ago. https://imgur.com/YBV0vFI

Must be fuckin' nice

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

He clearly has good intentions, but I think that goose is just repeating “get the fuck away from me and my nest/children”. Lol

6 years ago | Likes 178 Dislikes 1

Yeah I know lol He kept throwing more and more bread at her. There was a pile of it by the end. He told me she normally will pick it out 1/2

6 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 0

OMG people always trying to tell others they know better... I'm sure those geese can feed themselves fine and the bread is just a treat

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

This is it. My dad brought out one slice of bread. He's not buying bread at the store or anything else specifically for these geese.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bread is only dangerous if they’re only eating bread, bread snack is totally fine. She’s losing weight on the nest so more calories helps

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not as much as you think. The goslings get mobile very fast and it's not like she is a mammal, breast feeding. The bread provides no

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

!!! Only NONMEDICATED chicken feed, the medicine is toxic to waterfowl.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Supposedly bread is bad for geese. Maybe oats, bird seed, or frozen peas next time?

6 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 1

Nonmedicated chicken feed, fruits, and vegetables.

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Not all bread and not all bad. It's just that a lot of it isn't very nutritional so not ideal to fill up on it. Whole grain/multigrain is ok

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Yeah, bread just fills their stomachs without much nutritional value.

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Would unfrozen peas not be better?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think by frozen peas they just mean the peas you get in bags in the freezer isle. Itd be fine to thaw them

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always suggest unsalted and unsweetened corn, peas, beans, etc. They like corn the best out of all the veggies I've ever offered. :)

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh no! They'll end up malnourished if he's giving them piles of bread! Tell him to go buy a bag of chicken feed, they'll like it just as

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

much, and it's nutritionally complete. (well, they'll like it just as much as soon as they figure out what it is; birds can be weary of new

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

foods) NOT scratch grains--scratch is carbs. A pelleted or crumbled starter/grower along with some fruit and veg would be HEAVENLY

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

of his hand and he thinks she was stressing about me and my daughter being there.

6 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 0

Maybe you should let him know that the bread is bad for the goose. Fills her crop and provides little to no nutritional value, seriously.

6 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

Yeah, bread is like candy for them. A couple mouthfuls are alright, but it can't be a whole meal.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

One meal of candy is OK, right? If it doesn't become a post-quarantine habit? Asking for a friend.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Corn is good

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I give "my" crows some bread, but try to balance it with leftovers and free fed corn and nuts. Spoiled little cunts.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Probably, and probably why you and your daughter should have left immediately and watched from a distance. Distressed animal for likes..

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would have sat there where I was watching them rather I had my camera out or not.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And that's the problem.
