9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you! Yes I've been studying the most basic phrases so I'm not totally lost. I will only have a few days for sight seeing. What do you

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You look hipster lvl 11/10, but you photography is pretty darn awsome. Cheers mate.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

thank you... I'll take that rating!

Weird how everyone is a hipster to someone

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are these pictures edited? The color and all is so nice! I'm trying to learn how to take better photos.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

yes they are enhanced in Lightroom. I shoot RAW and edit them in pretty basic stuff. I do try to get the most out the natural light first

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Thank you! I thought I was missing something when I took pictures and they just looked simple. Great work btw! Appreciate the info

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

How did people react to a white, heavily tatooed (handsome?) foreigner?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Offff course you look like that

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

like what? a average white dude lost in Japan

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yes exactly <-

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry, I only have one upvote.

9 years ago | Likes 114 Dislikes 2

Speaking of "ONE" did you meet Saitama in the last picture? Pretty that's where he used to live.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Those styles of house is common in anime slice of life if you want your character meet eccentric people

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know. I watch a lot of anime. I was trying to make a joke about how- nvm

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Either way, Saitama lives in the Saitama Providence as it became a mega continent

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

thanks for looking at my pictures !

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Spent 2 years there in navy. Miss Tokyo everyday.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really beautiful pictures!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

thank you!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Serious question. Any strong reactions to your tattoos while there? Is there still the stigma attached?

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Obviously, I mean who wouldn't fear the probably-gangster/yakuza-member sorta-hobo shamisen player?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I only fear the reaper

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you're have tats they still won't let you into most hot spring places (onsen) and some theme parks won't allow you entrance.

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

That's fucked up

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 7

Tattoos are strongly associated with gangs in Japan. In Tokyo I bet its easier because tourism but its still something to consider

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It's almost as if different cultures have different associations with symbols or something.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Yeah this. Some beaches will ask you to cover your tattoos as well in the 'prime' season. Prime season is way worse than off season imo 1/.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

as the beaches and waves are too full, and the killer fucking eagles that pose as seagulls here are everywhere. But, most onsen, DADTD

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did not find it any weirder than in Europe, USA or Australia, you get the looks anywhere.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

I also went there to get some Japanese Ink (the colour sleeve was done there)

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

The Oni was a dead giveaway to that

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What looks? Surely literally nobody has bias against tattoos anymore? It's more of a stigma now to NOT have tattoos.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 14

Gangs still use tatoos a lot worldwide (and in japan the Yakuza in particular), so some people do the link ("don't imitate").

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

More of a stigma to *not* have tattoos? I call BS. No one cares as much any more, but stigma for *not* having one? No.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea that was, like, a sort of attempt at a quip or joke on my behalf.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Sorry. It didn't quite work. Even when I go back and read it again. But I do apologize for my rant reply...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I lived in Japan for years and miss it everyday! Most people will never know how awesome it truly is but you will. I hope you get back soon.

9 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

16 years here :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agree! 18 months spent there and think of going back frequently!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm going in 3 weeks anything special that you can suggest? I especially like stuff that's off the beaten path and not too touristy!

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Heyo, I just got back from Japan. Was there for 2 months. I stayed with 4 different families all the way from kyuushuu to hokkaido. Msg me

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

especially. Overall find out what festivals are going on. They are the best! Snowboarding in Iwate and Hokkaido is great. 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

visit. Kyoto is old style beautiful. Gifu is a take out of the ancient edo era with thatched roofs. Akihabara is really neat on Sundays 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The green car pass is awesome and not much more. There is so much to do is hard to say which is best. It depends on which part you will 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I PM'd you but posting for all to see. First get a JR rail pass if you're going to travel a lot. It will save you a ton in the end. 1/?

Check out Matsue in Shimane Pref. Oldest all-wood construction castle in the world at ~1400. The town is off the "english path", though.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sorry, 1607. Still, it's breathtaking. Again, you NEED core conversational Japanese to survive up there. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matsue_Castle

Get sushi in Tskiji. To much to list. Eat ramen and gyoza everywhere! Hit me up if you have more questions.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was there a couple years ago for a group holiday and have three top tips for ya! (1/4)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hiroshima. Not just for the history but for the castle and overall beauty of the city. Probably my favourite city overall.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nikko (near Kyoto). The town itself is nice but you'll want to go to the nearby deer park. Hundreds of tame deer walking about to feed/pet!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you!! I'm definitely gunna look into these!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nikko. Bit of a train trip from Tokyo but scenery and temples galore to explore! Famous leaders buried there.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nara, not Nikko for the deer park. Sorry.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Travel around the Kyoto area. Nara is beautiful, full of friendly deer, and offered free guides at the train station

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you!

Just make sure to take advantage of the tourist railpasses they sell at the airport. Unlimited rides for 1 week was a dream.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yea Im already looking them up! They're 250 a person online can I get them cheaper at the airport?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They're all great but you should probably not post pictures of strangers online without their consent

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 4

You understand the difference between someone with implied consent in a public event and passerby on the street, yes?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lmao, cute.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you dont need god damn consent in public property.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 16

You do in Japan if people are the main object of your photos. OP is an asshole.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 5

Wow strong words. He posted a few photos so he's an asshole? Way to assume you know everything about someone.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

You say it's allowed, but you link to an article where it says it isn't. Just pointing that out.

There are a few factors that limit this: First, "publishing" is a little vague. It is not clear if a personal website would count.

Second, if you publish outside of the country, there is little harm to privacy. No lawsuits are known to have been pressed against foreign p

Third, the subject(s) would need a reason to sue. Actually damages (such as inadvertently

I dont get why you're downvoted, thereis a reason all JP phones make a sound always when you take a picture

Japanese friends aren't photographers so they do cannot refer to any facts only to rumors told in television which are exaggerated in japan

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

the privacy laws in Japan are not clear to me. Nobody complained to me while taking pictures, I had eye contact with most of my subjects,
