I miss the water cooler talk, but reheated-tilapia-Tuesdays are not missed at all. Also, I am only marginally smarter than the fish not being reheated here… I used the wrong color of meme. One day I will learn

Do you like the smell of fish?

Why would anyone reheat fish?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Sounds like you're never going to get acclimated to the smell then - poor you!

Started WFH full time in 2011. Dec 2019 got a new job in an office and hated it. 3 months later, Covid and back working at home. Love it.

in my small work group, we have a running "social chat", which is nice

@OP shoot me your address, I have some cod to reheat and gossip to share! ;)

Have you ever smelled reheated kimchi?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Compared to popcorn or fish or broccoli it’s nothing

I have one older lady employee who LAID INTO a young engineer for making a mess in the microwave. Later that day she was taking orders 1/

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

for office supplies, and the young engineer asked her to order a new microwave. 2/

7 years now for me. I don't think I could go back to working in an office. I would hate it.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am guilty of doing it. I do schedule my lunch to be last though so no one has to go in after to smell it.

I worked with a guy who had a frozen shrimp dinner EVERY DAY for years. Frequently thought of killing him.

Hell yeah. I don't miss someone reheating Kung Pao chicken in the microwave twice a week when I'm very allergic to peanuts. Horrible.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Twice someone burned the popcorn on purpose to force a building evac. Fun times.

Slack has a voice chat lobby in channels. We use that for water cooler talk. Like our lounge channel but can hop in that talk while typing

Doing work things or if you need to bounce ideas quickly

Old lady opposite me used to smell of stale piss every day. Nearly made my physically sick a few times. I'm now perma WFH ?

Fish is officially banned from all construction trailer microwaves by the company

I nuke the support structure (rice, veg, etc) for like 3 minutes and let the superheated rice heat up the tuna or salmon.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Really like this idea! Might use it for other meals!

At home

We’ve been home since the pany started. My husband cooks fish and does weird shit just to be that person.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

"Pany". Awww.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Cloths dryers have vents, why not microwaves.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My mates dad would reheat his kippers in the crib room of the mine he worked at. He's that guy.

There’s a lot I don’t understand in this comment

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

My friends dad would reheat nasty ass stinky fish in the break room of the mine he worked at.

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Yes, thank you. This is sufficiently Americanized.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

I've been that person.

4 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 3

I did curried mussels one day. Made me Mr popular.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I've been smelling your comment since I read it this morning.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yo what the fuck

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Or burn the shit out of some popcorn, although that's gotten less frequent with the advent of the popcorn button I think.

4 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 0

Burnt popcorn is delicious

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

For a while now the microwave popcorn I buy says not to use the popcorn button and it's not joking.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Some microwaves allow for bag size (2oz, 2.5, etc) so that might have addressed said popcorn manufacturers concern

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A former coworker ALWAYS burned her popcorn. She’s working for a competitor now, heh heh.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I called security for a fire smoke smell coming from an indoor construction area...was a burnt bag of popcorn :/ Better safe than sorry! lol

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The popcorn button is a popcorn burner at my work.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Call me a socialist but I think it should be against the law to cook popcorn in a public space if you don't have enough to offer everyone.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not in the offices I’ve work in. My coworkers still managed.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

as a kid my brother microwave popcorn for 30 mins, not 3. Started playing 007 Goldeneye. Didn't notice the popcorn until the bag was on fire

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

When we were about 7 and 9 my big brother told me to microwave nachos for 25 minutes whilst home alone

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I had a coworker who did something similar. Smelled like charred popcorn for weeks, had to chuck the microwave.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey, try the smell of microwaved cow's brains sometime. It'll bring tears to your eyes.

4 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

No.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That’s just not right ?

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

The cow's probably not to happy about it either.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I think by the time the brain is in the microwave, the cow isn't in a position to care either way

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Isn’t that literally how you get mad cow disease

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I guess if you cook them enough it kills any pathogens. So, a long cook time at full power. PHEW!!

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Mad cow isn't a pathogen. It's just proteins that require heating to the point of ash essentially to de-nature.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not prionic pathogens, the shape of bent up proteins project their mis-shape onto healthy proteins to replicate, not even alive to kill.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

but doesn't high enough heat denature proteins?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yea for sure, extreme heat over time but it's not something that'll still be food after, also chlorine-based bleaches in some cases iirc
