Just watched this movie yesterday and it is still good and really underrated! Hoping for sequel

Honestly underrated

Right here.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

It was OK, I preferred an early release of the anime which had different voice actors to the ones in the current anime release.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Wasn't there supposed to be a sequel for tihs? I was in the minority by actually enjoying them ovie.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hated how this movie got caught up in the culture wars. It was a great movie with a female lead; Captain Marvel was a great movie with a female lead; but because right-wing idiots framed it as 'good' femininity vs. 'bad' femininity for ridiculous reasons, the actual movies got lost in the arguments.

Fuk.
Please approve #2

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't understand why they made everyone in this movie look plastic. The Robot people, the real people, buildings, cars, metal brick flesh, hell even the fire and water, everything whether it was CGI or real looked plastic.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I absolutely loved the movie! And I also really like the cosplay. =)

2 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 0

if you watch the extras on the bluray cameron goes on about only handing if off to rodriguez if he wrote a good script which is fucking weird because all he did was copy the anime in its entirety

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I fuckin' love robert rodriguez's work, he's a fantastic director. Who would've thought that the best way to adapt a story to screen is to adapt the actual story to screen? He's two for two with battle angel & sin city.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Honestly think this movie would have been a hit if they didn't go with the weird googly eyes. Bummer

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want 2 things. A sequel. Don’t change anything about her eyes in the sequel.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I couldn't watch this one. Those arftficially enlarged eyes were just freaky as fuck. Uncanny Valley City Central.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The part where all that guy's limbs fall off is unintentionally hilarious.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Anyone else see Rosa Salazar for the first time in Alita and now think something is off when they see her in anything else without the giant anime eyes?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I mean, something is definitely off in Brand New Cherry Flavor, but I love it

i hated her eyes.

Damn you. I was gonna post that same gif. lol. (Just kidding man. I tip my hat to you)

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Underrated is an overused term, but I tihnk it applies here as while it didn't do bad, it was definitely overlooked by a lot of people and then forgotten about very quickly, but I think its better than that.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Yes, but the issue with 'under/overrated' as words is that they are all about what people as a whole think, and who gives a shit what the general public opinion of a piece of media is? Saying "XYZ is underrated" sounds to me like it's more important to you what people generally think than whether you enjoyed it. Why not just say "I loved XYZ!" or even better "I loved XYZ, because..." to show how you've thought about it and contribute something actually interesting to the conversation.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Why not just say "I loved XYZ!" Because that's a different topic? Sometimes people want to discuss how something was received by audiences instead of their personal opinions.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You liking it is implied when you say it's underrated, its a short way of saying that you think people who have not seen it will like it. Its not that complicated.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It also clearly states that it should have had better reviews which is simply not the case with this movie. It was reviewed overall positively it was always just a niche movie targeted at a niche audience most of whom enjoyed it. Words have meaning and underrated means it should have been rated better, but this was rated highly it just wasn't widely viewed.

Imagine how many of these we might have if Cameron wasn't making Blue People Boogaloo 2: Part 3

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Don‘t forget that Part 4 and 5 of Blue People Saga also already have release dates! (2029 and 2031, respectively).

He's gonna die before he makes anything other than a new bluemen film :(

Who the fuck are these fans that materialize from nowhere. I have yet to have met people who can even remember any of the movies after watching them.

New Challenge: name a single character from the Avatar films who isn't Jake Sully

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To anyone that read the Manga. Is it worth it or is it going to be a slow burn with almost no payoff? Im considering reading it because it sounds interesting but not sure

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The manga is pretty good, but it's got a very different focus than the film or the OVA. A lot more backstory and internal dialog.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The manga was good, and the anime was also good.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Personally I think the anime and movie did it better only because it has a tighter and focused story. The manga meanders a bit more especially in the beginning. The content beyond the movie, I only read up to the end of the first series and the last half of that was VERY weird and got into some magic nonsense with some DJ in the desert and the motives behind the big bad are also nonsensical (he researches destiny... whatever that means). The sequel series apparently erases the series 1 ending.

There are talks. Some brief information that comes out occasionally. I hope so.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Up until November of last year they were still in talks.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At this point I'm glad we even got this one 😑

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It made double what it cost to make so it didn't bomb in the end but it didn't do great either.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Made something like $400mil, but the production cost was around $170 with advertising costs being about the same. Unfortunately, that basically means it was a flop at the box office despite still having a very large number of fans all these years later.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ah ok thanks, didn't realise it didn't include advertising.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

With Hollywood accounting it's hard to say how much it actually made, but I bet they got some tax write-offs from it bombing.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Depends if the movie cost includes the marketing, if it doesn't it likely broke even at best.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bought this movie years ago and still have yet to watch it. WTF is wrong with me?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You're not missing anything. I wouldn't say it's terrible but... well yeah for me at least it was pretty bad.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

.... ADHD?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Haven’t been professionally diagnosed with it…but yeah I have ALL the classic symptoms.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe it's time to get that diagnosis?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're missing out. If you like action/sc-fi, it's an excellent movie.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yeah, what IS wrong with you? Who does that? Just buying things they don't even engage with... *glances nervously at my Steam backlog*

They could have saved a fortune on CGI if they just hired Kate Micucci

Tom Cruise is that you? It's ok. Nobody watched Jack Reacher anyway.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Yeah but she has a weird black tooth.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or at least didn't have to delay releasing the movie twice to change the size of Alita's eyes (both times).

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Loved her in episode 'The Outside' (S1E4) of Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities. I wish her a speedy recovery (she had a lung cancer surgery like a month ago)!

2 years ago | Likes 103 Dislikes 2

Whoa, I didn't hear about that. :(

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

I have had the biggest crush on her for so long

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

💯

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Didn't she come out in support of TFG, or am I remembering wrong.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

She's so cute and funny. I really liked her in Raising Hope. She has some good talk show interviews out there too .

I didn’t knew her name, god now her characters name in scrubs is even funnier…

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Maybe... I like Kate, but her voice can only be taken in measured, and small, doses...

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 11

Came here to say this. She doesn’t have the voice for a serious character

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Guess you wouldn't like her band Garfunkel and oats then lol

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

For one or two songs sure. For an hour and a half. No i'd pass. It's not Fran Drescher bad, just not a fan of the voice :P

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

i would have watch the movie if they did

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

It was actually really good. I haven't heard any real complaints that weren't about the huge eyes.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

ive only heard complaints. group of people i know went to watch it in theaters.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

they were readers of the comics

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

also isnt it 50% of a movie? thats never getting a 2nd half

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I think they recently announced work on the second half, but I can't be certain it wasn't a click bait article. Still, the first movie was actually really quite good. You get over the eye thing pretty quick. She's not meant to be considered a human.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Enjoy the majesty of the first one and suffer with us all who wait for the second

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

If you want a good time, listen to the band she sang in, Garfunkel and Oates!

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

Their songs are amazing and they sing in perfect synch. Really great group.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Ducks! Sex with ducks! We'll do it in the rain!!!

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

remember when they made her eyes really big and changed it after the feedback they gotten?

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

They changed it?? Who gave them the feedback? Bunch of creatively mind dead random people? Anywho, do you have a before and after?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The changes were very subtle. Mostly just more detail on the eyelids, and increased the size of the iris so there was less sclera (white)

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Are you telling me those eyes aren't really big?

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

No, I remember the story about Sonic quite differently than the version you just related.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

This is the "fixed" version? It looks terrible. I'll stick with the anime version I haven't watched since Clinton was President.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

The anime is better, but not because of the visuals. Because they didnt pull all the punches on the blood and the emotional hit at the end

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wussies... But what can you do... It think it was only loosely explained in a book of the third Series that her eyes being that big was for use in the lowlight conditions of space. Her original "birthplace" being on Mars and being some kind of Ninja Space Resistance Fighter.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Warframe but not!

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

'Birthplace' being a relative term... If you call being an excised tumor given a full cyborg body 'birth'.

Why do you think I put the " " around birthplace, huh? 🤨

I would like to know your source for the budget, because Wikipedia has it between $150-200m. Also I'm not sure you're aware of the marketing rule in Hollywood. Films have to make double their budget just to break even.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can’t wait….hope they make it someday

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's written like the manga, to be fair. All cliffhanger, no payoff.

I still don't know how it ends after the 5 different times she's met Mad Scientist Genius With Secret Lair for the "first time". On earth, on floating-city, on mars. I think on the moon? It's... It's such a fucking cluster fuck.

But god damn I fucking love it.

It was really an underrated movie. I enjoyed it.

2 years ago | Likes 129 Dislikes 6

I generally consider it a bad thing when a movie ends in the middle.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think one of the things I loved most about this film is how much intent there is behind every shot. Each shot is static or tracking to ensure you follow the action. None of this cinematography caught in a 9.4 on the Richter Scale. Shakey cam, to me is the mark of a bad cinematographer when it comes to action, and Alita's action is well choreographed and captured. Love this movie.

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Can't wait for the tournament arc where she fights the space karate organization, the Venus fleshcrafters, a giant robot based on HR Giger's Alien (complete with penis cannon), bolshevic vampire mommy, and space ghandi.

Also she becomes a cat girl, dies, and incarnates herself back into existence with angel wings through Jupiter nanomachines. Zazi shoots a space pedophile, sechs hyperinflates his body to land a hit on space Jackie Chan.

Battle Angel Alita, fucking wild manga.

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Don't forget big fucking guns and a badass sailor with a goofy name.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

bolshevic vampire mommy : caerulea sanguinis. are we skipping alita's trans clone ?

Don't forget that she is literally a Tumor turned into a person by a crazy guy.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

https://screenrant.com/alita-battle-angel-2-development-confirmed-james-cameron When interviewed in 2023 on why he sold his California mansion: “And on Avatar, I’m working in Wellington and Los Angeles. And on the new Alita: Battle Angel films, I’ll be working in Austin, so it just didn’t make sense for us anymore.” The TL;DR of it is that he does plan on making more Alita movies, it's just a matter of when.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Austin? Wonder if he'll be working with Roberto Rodriguez's virtual studio? ...Did he do the first one? ...Whatever. I love BAA and hope I live long enough to see the sequels lol.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Rodriguez directed the first one, and so far seems to be involved in the planning for a sequel.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think Cameron's plan was always to do it after finishing Avatar.

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

Considering he mentioned having some ideas for possible 6th and 7th Avatar movies as well as mentioning that he would be about 89 years old during their production, chances might not be that great for a sequel. But I wont give up hope as I love both, his Alita and Avatar movie/movies.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Tbh, 2 was such a letdown. It was just 1 in a costume. Almost emotional beat for beat. Scene for scene. Second in command dies. Bad guy kills him. Destroying one of a kind source of power. Girl he loves is in danger. Innocents killed. Mystical shit. Animal killed and pins one protagonist while they’re jacked in. Humans doing hella evil shit and wiping out huge swaths of land. I also think it’s a joke how literally the whales were NEVER hinted at but SOMEHOW their brain juices were 100x more

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

profitable than the unobtanium that “this little gray rock sells for $20m/kg… This is what pays for the whole party, & it's what pays for your science”. The brain juice is 8m for a small vial. Which is less eight than a kilo of the rock - but by weight & use (immortality) more profitable. Visually it was as or more STUNNING as 1, but the story was just 1, but somehow… less interesting. I’ve seen 1 probably 100x (directors cut) & saw 2 once. I tried a 2nd & got bored 20m in & turned it off.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, Jesus, Quaritch was hot in 1 but somehow got hotter in 2, but was much stupider. The concept they brought the ENTIRE SQUAD back including that bald dick & some random ass white baby with dreads who could barely function in any society & acted less human than Mowgli who was raised by literal animals who just HAPPENED to be Quaritch’s unknown son? And dude somehow gave a crap about the little goblin who was literally one of the dumbest & worst characters in film in a decade….? -_-

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Kinda wonder how he'd continue the story... The Zapan Arc? The Den Arc? Go straight for the Second Series' Books? Can't imagine the latter as there's just too many characters in there that need explaining in the First Series' Books like the existence of the AR Series.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

What, you don't think they're gonna do the space Nazi with vampires and royal tumors thing? lmao (literally her origin story involves space nazis and gets way weirder). If they do the arena fight thing I could only hope they truncate the hell out of it, that lasted SO long.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yea... I really don't see the 2nd Movie taking place in the Last Order Books 🤔 Too much stuff would have to be left out to make a 2h Movie which would only result in a huge clusterfuck. I'm not even sure how the Hunt for Nova should continue... Another Motorball Arc for Jashugan? Unlikely... But how do you explain her losing the Berserker body for the Zapan Arc? How do you explain her becoming a Tuned without the Zapan Fight? How do we introduce the Den Arc without her becoming a Tuned?, etc...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They could go straight for the Den Arc and a Low Tech Fight by ignoring everything else as it beig the only lead to Nova ending in a climax on Zalem, perhaps with High Tech a fight against Rosco with the help of the new Imaginos Body provided by Nova.

I forgot it was still going tbh, I own all of it up to about volume 6 or so of Mars Chronicle. Also own Berserk (RIP) and my fav comic was Saga so the random break or hiatus here and there arent too unexpected, sometimes I let things run for a bit before continuing.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So this is called Mars Chronicle?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The original part is just called "Battle Angel Alita" (yes, thats the correct order of the words, not what cameron did) with 9 volumes. That was followed by "Battle Angel Alita: Last Order" with 19 volumes. After that we have currently 9 volumes for "Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicles", which is a Sequel to "BAA:LO" as well as a prequel/origin story. Then there is the single volume "Other Stories" which contains a couple of selfcontained stories in the same universe.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Finally we have "Ashen Victor" which is a spinoff released after the original series but set before the events and focuses around motorball.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Alita Battle Angel in the US. Mars Chronicle is the subtitle of the most recent continuation of the story.
