By the end of 1957 the French are still in the middle of their war in Ethiopia. While they are winning, modern weapons are getting bogged down in the difficult terrain. Best of luck to our allies.
The two Vietnams have agreed to a ceasefire. While the great offensive of the South didn't manage to push communism out of the region entirely, likely due to Chinese support, southern forces have succeeded in pushing some distance north, securing border regions.
Sure, Argentina!
Speaking of Argentina, they seem to have taken most of Chile. An interesting development...
As if Portugal hadn't suffered enough, South Africa declares war in an effort to seize Angola. Poor them.
By the start of 1958, India declares war on Pakistan. Weakened by rebellions and unrest, the country is in no shape to defend effectively. This seems like it will be a quick war.
As if the Vietnam war wasn't enough, more wars break out in south-east Asia.
How could they, the commie bastards! Prepare our nuclear weapons!
The war in Portuguese Africa continues. The South African offensive into Angola has been repelled, but they are making progress into Mozambique.
Cambodia joins the fray.
With the country more stable, Labour take over from the Conservatives, pushing for more social welfare.
(and for all those saying there was no general election in 1958... SSSSHHHHH!!)
Communists have risen up in Turkey! It is likely the revolution was prompted by the Soviets, who supported the rebels to gain secure their southern flank against NATO and to gain access to the Mediterranean. We hope the Turkish government can crush them!
With the communists attempting to seize Turkey, the oil-rich region of the middle-east, controlled by the west since WW1, is under direct threat. We must intervene to take control of this region for 'the local people', and we will first invade Oman. It's alright, we'll make up something about communist sympathisers or something. This definitely isn't empire building, ok?
Oman's fleet is simply no match, and is destroyed in hours. Britannia rules the waves!
Despite the fact Oman's army numbered roughly the same as our invasion force at first, they are decisively defeated in the battle of Wusta. Our superior training and technology allows us to win with ease.
With Oman's military neutralised on land and sea, the way to the capital is open.
Our colonies again demand autonomy, but we cannot afford to change our colonial policies while at war.
Oman is combined with Yemen into a single colony of British Arabia. Their people are safe under our strong leadership.
Our intervention in the middle-east could not have come at a better time. Reports are arriving of a communist insurgency in Iran, a threat to our oil sourc... um, I mean local stability.
The Indian forces are slowly pushing into Pakistan, despite heavy losses.
Although France officially signed a ceasefire with Ethiopia, occupying the northern coast, the war continues de facto, with Yemen giving assistance to Ethiopia (strangely).
With civil unrest turning into open rebellion in Saudia Arabia, again, our oil is under threat. The middle-east is becoming increasingly destabilised, and it's all the communists' fault, not ours!
The Chinese have attacked! Shells rain down on Hong Kong, we are at war again!
The Royal Navy is immediately dispatched to take control of the South China Sea.
The size of the Chinese army means a land war is unwinnable. We can only sit and wait.
Within days, the local garrison surrenders, and the flag of the Chinese communists rises atop the city.
In good news, we've finished colonising a tiny island near Antarctica.
Brazil attacked us and our European allies along with China, and has already taken French Guiana.
The Chinese have reached Malaya via Thailand! We had not expected an attack here, and our forces are overwhelmed.
We cannot hope to win this war. Our navy is our only asset (well, apart from our nukes, but the people would revolt if we used them), and Chinese forces have crossed through Thailand into British Malaya. We must accept whatever peace offer we can, and recover to fight another day.
Brazil has annexed French Guiana...
... and our colony of Malaya is divided up amongst smaller states.
Communist North Korea has begun a campaign of modernisation, helped along by the Soviet Union no doubt. With China growing, it seems Asia is well and truly out of western control, and is now a communist haven.
During the short war with China, our navy gained much experience. Experimental naval missiles were very effective, allowing us to beat the Chinese navy in the South China Sea. With the knowledge gained, we will equip the entire Royal Navy with newer model missiles.
The war in east Africa is not going too well for France. Unfortunately, our army is still recovering, and we can't afford to help.
India has essentially annexed Pakistan. Only some mountainous regions in the far west are still under the control of the remnants of the Pakistani army.
Communist control continues to grow in South America...
The Communists have risen up in Italy! No doubt the Soviets are behind this. We hope one day we can finally wipe communism off the face of the Earth! However, today is not that day.
Turkey is a mess of different armed groups, such as communists, nationalists, and government forces, with no one having the upper hand.
Finally, some good news! South Korea has attacked the North. Hopefully, the communists can be pushed out of the Korean peninsular, although undoubtable the Chinese and Soviets are going to support the North to avoid having a western-friendly state on their borders.
It seems France has managed to turn the tide of the war.
Brazil has declared war on Argentina. Just a normal thing in the anarchy that is South America.
South Korea's offensive has been devastating effective, with Northern forces pushed up into a small corner in the north-east of the country.
The Belgians have founded the so called 'European Union' a political and economic union of European states, cooperating for mutual benefit and to avoid the great wars of the first half of the century. Of course, we will join in time.
Denmark is the latest country to join the EU.
After filling in the paperwork, the United Kingdom joins the European Union in November 1960.
Unfortunately, not everything is good news in Europe. Communists, lobbying for west Germany to join the east, are rising up. We hope these red scum are crushed swiftly!
As the decade of the 1950s comes to a close, communism is constantly spreading throughout the world. China has demonstrated their new power in defeating a nation that, only 50 years ago, was the greatest empire the world had ever seen. However, times change, there is a new political landscape, with new threats over the horizon.
