As a Canadian immigrant to southern USA I start my car barely leaning into it, turn on the AC, and don't get in for like a minute.

How do you not know enough to wait until the temperature gauge is at an appropriate level? Did you just start driving 3 days ago, or what?
MrPredator
Even worse when you're in high humidity.
Yup. 95 degrees...120 heat index.

Terminator?
KrAzYAsSGaMeR
Yep, Terminator 2. This scene gave me nightmares as a kid.

When it's 110 and you're in traffic but your engine's overheating so you gotta blast the heat
Axlegear
Uh.. that won't help.
The fan+heater in your car will draw heat from the engine and cool it down. It helped me out when I had a busted radiator.
No, it won't, because the heat comes from the heater coil, not the engine.
with the cabin, else you'd be getting hit with 220F+ burning air. It'd melt your plastic and cause burns.
Is that the case on older cars too? Why would blasting the heat have dropped the temp of my engine on my old civic when it was overheating?
It wouldn't. Causation without correlation. And yes, true on all cars. The engine's coolant is in a closed loop, it doesn't exchange
Generally most cars circulate the air in the cabin with a limited intake for fresh air, away from the engine to avoid toxic/smelly air

At least you're not in tennessee. They're supposed to have a ~125°F heat wave soon.
120 F heat index here these days. Corpus Christi area
I moved from Austin to the Corpus area...ugh. AWFUL.

Can literally cook an egg or make popcorn!

Yo for reals, why has it been so fucking humid lately? I'm in Dallas and I'm not used to it. I hate it.
Houston is even worse.
It's like this in Texas almost every single year
Nah brah. Not in Dallas anyways. I've lived here for 15 out of my 22 years and this feels different.
Well down here in Port Aransas it's 100% humidity and 92 almost every day in summer.
Oh well, THAT makes sense. Haha.
