Don't cry for me I'm already dead...

No one who agrees with this needs it, and no one who sees this is going to change their mind.

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 4

People are horrible for abandoning family members

What do you mean?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Thank you.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I just got my 3rd dog because someone wasn't capable of taking care of their children's new birthday gift.

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

At least the dog is being taken care of, most dogs aren't so lucky

I teach dog training classes. Shockingly there is always a huge demand for puppy classes in January...

:( My pooch Benjamin died this week.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Oh no, I'm so sorry! :( ?noredirect

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Man that sucks, sorry for your loss.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3: My kitty did too. Was it at expected?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please don't combine it with your daughter for a research project either...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

On an unrelated note I got a free dog for anyone in the Portland, OR area.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always hate that a person gets a pet only to have it sit in The yard why did u get it in the first place if it wasn't going to be family

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Members of the family get nagged and have to deal with crazy relatives. How about dogs are supreme overlords?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Mmm, no. Member of the pack? Most definitely full member with all the love and perks. Supreme overlord aka Alpha dog? No fucking way.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My puppy doesn't want to be leader of the pack. She's perfectly happy getting her cuddles and pretending to be a lap dog (she's not one)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There are family members I wouldn't hesitate to throw away if I could

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

but would someone who can't talk back to you be one?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Don't get me wrong. I love dogs. Some times they can be even better than family.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My cats are my family. If they don't count, then I can say "your" adopted kids aren't either. :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wanted a puppy all though highschool(and college, I commuted). It wasn't until I graduated and moved out that I "got my girlfriend" a puppy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Avoid this all together and just dont get a pet

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Also, don't buy disgusting inbred breeds like pugs.

9 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 6

Can't agree more, if you need to make sure its eyes haven't fallen out its skull you need a different pet. Pugs make me sad.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I just wanted one because I feel so bad for them :(

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Purebred= inbred

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Sometimes but not always, some of them could have inbreeding issues bit it isn't always the case.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, older dogs make way better presents than puppies. They're usually chill and so happy to have a family.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Obviously you can throw them away

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

10 to 20 years, a true life to enjoy

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dah

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fuck now I'm crying

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

There should be a tax placed on animals purchased from pet stores. The money collected goes to animal shelters

9 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 2

That's a really good idea! Pet stores AND breeders! I wonder how one gets this idea into the public eye so that someone in power sees it?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The libertarian in me says taxation is theft, but the kid in me thinks this is a fantastic idea.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 18

Gotta love how people complain about American taxes when it's some of the lowest in the world.

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

Just means we keep most of our income.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

And dont get universal healthcare, good public transportation, or free higher education

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

Way to completely miss the joke .

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

As someone that volunteers at a poorly financed shelter please PLEASE at least go see a shelter before even considering purchase.

9 years ago | Likes 156 Dislikes 2

I know the post is about stopping abandonment but I needed to also point this out

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My sister wants a french bulldog but I'm trying to convince her to go to the SPCA or Dogwatch shelter first!!

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

There are many purebreds in shelters

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She can request to be notified if one comes in and there's plenty of rescues across the country that will transport a dog.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

We found a 2yr old female frenchie on the NZ equivalent of eBay, needing a home so could be an option for her.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Once I'm financially ready for a pet, I'm gonna stroll into the shelter with my arms open and take home whichever cat loves me the most.

9 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

their cage is much smaller than for dogs also they are kept alone while dogs are 2-6/cage and can play together. breaks my heart every time

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm going to start with the oldest cats. They have the least time but their adoption will make the most difference

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I personally like older cats anyways. They're way more mature and aren't as needy as kittens.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(I know this post is about dogs, but I feel like this applies for any animal)

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

It does. I hope you find your perfect squishy kitty. Just be prepared, being in that kind of environment doesn't always give optimal 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Experience with their actual personality. They could just be stressed from being there. Good luck!!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks. My mom had great luck when her cat chose her. My only deal breaker is that I cannot get a bonded pair. Landlord only allows 1 pet.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And if you can't keep the animal their entire life, PLEASE contact a no-kill shelter or rescue. DO NOT give them away on Craigslist.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I got both of my dogs from a Craigslist equivalent. One was 2 years old and $150, the other 1 year old and free. Had to desex both too.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most shelters in new Zealand advertise the dogs on our Craigslist equivalent anyway. Why do you feel it is bad?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure about new Zealand, but I know this is true for the US and generally applies more to individuals than groups advertising.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hopefully the shelter will do some vetting of anyone wanting to adopt, and may be able to take the animal back if the adoption falls through

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep that's what they do. Advertising online just helps get the word out. I fostered a dog for a while from a shelter and was vetted

(1) Had numerous people ask why we "wasted" so much money moving our 2 cats from Norway to Australia...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(2) I'm sorry but as responsible pet owners hubby and I, didn't consider not bringing them with us.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(3) Heck, as we knew we'd be making the move at some point, the cost of moving them was one of the things we Investigated and considered

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(4) before getting them…if we hadn't been prepared to pay for it, we wouldn't have gotten them in the first place.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(5) I just don't understand why some people consider pets to be disposable when they become inconvenient…

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Live in the country. my uncle regularly used to take in puppies that had been dumped in the layby by his house and train them as gundogs

9 years ago | Likes 152 Dislikes 3

Thanks for teaching me a new word! Never heard of layby before (an area at the side of a road where vehicles may pull off the road and stop)

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

What is a gundog?

9 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

Dogs trained for retrieving or finding game birds when on organised shoots.

9 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 0

Oh so that they will be wanted later :D

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nothing, what's gun with you?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Fuck that, what is a "layby"??

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

a reststop/shoulder area...

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Alrighty then. Thanks!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What's a shoulder?

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Layby

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A level stretch of ground beside a road. You can pull over onto the shoulder if you need to get out or your car breaks down.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Target practice.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 31

Is it terrible that I always have to switch the channel when that comes on, but have no issue with the "flies all over kids face" one?

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

It's ok, those commercials cost almost 1 million to air and only a couple cents on the dollar help animals

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The ASPCA is not the best animal charity because they have to spend so much of their budget just raising money - DONATE TO A LOCAL SHELTER

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you ever suffered before? If not, then its perfectly normal to feel more empathy towards animals

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As someone who worked at a pet store... Stop buying fucking pets for your fucking kids unless YOU are prepared to take full ownership of it.

9 years ago | Likes 683 Dislikes 7

My family has made a living by taking in animals who have been victimized by this. They come in horrifying 9/10 times. bless you

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I bought a bearded dragon with my bf spontaneously. I didn't realize how much work it was going to be, but I still have her 3 years later!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My psychopath childhood friend took this a notch further. He "played" with his Hamster in the kitchen sink and threw his cat out the window.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Brb I'm gonna go watch TV with my dog and let him know he is good boy

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

God I wish my grandparents got this. Three times they bought a dog and expected me to care for it when I never asked for one or /1

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Demonstrated any responsibility to care for a puppy. They just assumed a boy needs a dog and took my accepting the offer as understanding/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The work and responsibility. "Oh look we put a puppy in his lap and he likes it, and when we asked if he wanted it he said yes! He ready!"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My sister has gone through 2 dogs in the last 5ish years, one of whom she only kept for 4 months!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Drives me crazy. Now she wants a bunny.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Oh and she's had 2 or 3 cats too

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I remember I got a kitten at the age of 2 and a dog at the age of 5 and they both lived happily with me until they were around 18-20 (1)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've been an animal person ever since and I've adopted and taken in more pets and I can't ever not have one now, they're just too precious!

Maybe you should tell him what a piece of shit he is? No, better to not do that so he doesn't learn things.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My sister is 'just waiting for the cats to die' so they can get a dog. She's had and returned four dogs in the last ten years.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Also when we go to college it ain't an option to take him, although picking up women would be easier

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Yeah, not a single kid is going to take much responsibility. They might wash and walk it occasionally but that's it

9 years ago | Likes 147 Dislikes 0

Oh but like reptiles and small mammals. Parents just let them die 75% of the time.

9 years ago | Likes 82 Dislikes 0

I can confirm that, I got a hamster when I was 6 from an aunt, it "died" and I don't remember ever looking after it. Not sure if my 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

Parents gave it away or it actually did die, hopefully the first option 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

Six year olds can't even wipe their ass correctly, let alone keep something alive.

9 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

I do t understand how people don't know this inherently. I mean, I know their are shortsighted people, but come the fuck on.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

So short sighted they might as well wear microscopes everyhwere they go.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My sister apparently knew trash that would buy a new puppy each time their Lab got too big. They'd ditch the "too big" dog elsewhere.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Reading that made me feel ill

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think it's a good way to give a small amount of responsibility to your children. But agreed- you are the primary caregiver.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I think the idea is more that a toddler/young child can't actually take 100% responsibility of a pet re: feeding, walking, care etc

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

However yeah totally agree- teach kids responsibility young, but don't be shocked if they're shit at it and forget to feed the dog etc

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, but it has to at a certain age, no 5year old is going to pay attention to a pet for longer than a month until she/he get bored with it.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Of course, I meant more 10/11 year olds.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah definitely, a 10/11 year old would be able to feed and walk it (with the parents help most of the time)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have a 10 yr old dog that I bought when I was 18. I will never buy from a store again, as I know better now, but he's getting old and my

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

husband, whom I met after, wants to put him down. I'm just like no! He is a part of this family and I won't give him up just because he's

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You need to get rid of that guy at all cost.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

not as cute and energetic anymore. My husband just thinks if him as an animal. Not a member of the family :(

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Keep the dog, maybe get a better husband.

9 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

I agree. No one can treat my babies like that! And besides, your doggy came first. :3

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously. To me, this kind of behavior are a window to the soul. Maybe I'm wrong but he seems like an asshole
