Is this from the trailer for the new Joker movie coming out?

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yes

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It might be from the trailer for the trailer for the new Joker movie

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The preview of the reveal of the teaser for the pre-trailer? Cool, gonna check it out.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Very cool shot, but same with mirror shots I always think of the fact that the camera sees it right, but the person actually there in the scene is way off to the side

2 years ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 6

I'm no expert filmmaker, but this seems like a great use case for a teleprompter so the actor can get it right while looking straight into the camera (mirror)

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I think what they were referring to was how, in universe, there isn't a character in position to see the smiles line up.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Which makes it even crazier that Phoenix nailed it!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

They're referring to Phoenix's scene partner.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I said the same thing when I saw the trailer. Masterful shot executed perfectly. Imagine take like 37 though…

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is this really going to be a musical?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Is that the new joker movie?t

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They made another one? Godammit I miss Heath Leger

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight was very very good --but tbf, 2019's Joker made over a billion dollars -and was the first R-rated movie to do so. Joaquin Phoenix won the Oscar for Best Actor for that film

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They were both great in the same way approached from different directions. Ledger's Joker knew he was flawed but embraced it, and tried to bring the world to his level. Phoenix's Joker knew he was flawed, tried to get out of it, but the world kept him there.

I bet it was filmed in reverse

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or, the clip is played in reverse

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

i really liked this idea - and i'm stoned and thought about it way too long - but without CGI (which the filmmaker is unlikely to do) how would you erase the lipstick mark backwards. like - it goes right to left. see what i mean? i might be stoned. nvm me.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am not sure how the Musical thing will turn out, but I am intirgued.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

first time i saw him in gladiator, but his joker is oscar win quality. lets just hope the studio wont fuck this up.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

They usually rehearse some scenes backwards to know where people will end up in the shot.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The director. That's who comes up with the shots.

2 years ago | Likes 285 Dislikes 20

I think the camera man had some part in it

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Director of Photography must be some random person then

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

mmmm no not necessarily. He directs the whole thing but a good director knows how to delegate tasks, accept ideas from his staff. And a shot like that could have easily been from the director of photography, which is the guy more specifically tasked with stuff like that.

segway topic : This is what Zack Snyder should be in a production; director of photography. He can make cool looking shots but needs to be kept in check and to stay far away from anything related to script/story/narrative

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Incredibly bold of you to think Todd Phillips is that talented

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends on the director, some are real hands on with the cinematography others let their camera operator run wild. It takes a team to make a movie but the director often gets a lot of the credit or blame.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This looks like something a screenwriter described in such details that the set crew just had to figure out how to make it real

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a collaborative effort. I'm sure something to that effect is in the script, the director explained what he wanted, writers storyboarded it out, and camera, props, and the like

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

And the grips did something, not sure what but they were definitely involved.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Maybe they gripped things?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's actually the bartender

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought the butler did it

The director describes the shot he wants. The DP actually makes it reality. (You see where I'm going. Carry it forward.)

2 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

This is the correct answer

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

then the Key Grip sets the lighting that the DP asks for

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Why, is the gaffer out sick?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

crap; you are right and I am wrong. I was hoping somebody would do Best Boy

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Double penetration?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yes.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Noice

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not a huge fan of the joker movie. But the costume screen test was amazing. Really wish they went with the tone of that instead of what we ended up getting.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I saw the trailer and there were a few shots but yeah, this one stuck out.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I cannot wait for this movie. It's either going to be good or epic.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

or utter trash like the first one

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 14

Unfortunately it was the biggest disappointment of the year for me.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want to be excited about this movie but from the start something has felt off. I've seen a few comments saying it's pulling a Home Alone 2 & that looks like a good description, but that's not it. Maybe the first one was lightning in a bottle but I feel like this is one of those times to go in with lowered expectations. I just can't figure out why.

In case you are actually having trouble hearing it Harley says "I want to see the real you"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

get new speakers or consult an audiologist

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The blocking and rehearsal for that must've been intense... but he fucking nailed it.

2 years ago | Likes 658 Dislikes 5

Done in post, perhaps?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All he needed was a monitor facing him

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Well they could just place a display behind her so he can exactly see how it is lining up in the camera.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So many people just have no idea how the world around them works. They're trying to come up with magic excuses for something really simple.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

probably looking at a screen of the shot

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Yep, this!? Why isnwveeyome reaching for time consuming theories !? Just watch the shot as you do it!?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

100% agree! Great craftsmanship by Joaqin; no amount of tape/blocking could've pulled that naturally without looking like you're navigating your head into place.

2 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 1

I could see another way around it. Because the woman and the glass is at points either blurry and/or out of shot they could just have Joaquin do the movement and smile, shoot a separate shot of her putting the makeup on the glass, and then layering one shot over the other.

If they block out the position based on the first take they could even put a very small line on the glass for her to follow with the makeup.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

What if he's just looking at a live video from camera. Could even be placed in the same hight as the actor he's playing against.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

or the makeup itself added post shot.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That still requires a REALLY good editor to make it blend seamlessly, especially assuming a wide angle of movement.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure they most likely just shot the scene and used CGI to add the lipstick to fit. Would seem less time consuming to do it that way vs filming till it matches

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's an article from January 2020. The lipstick on glass scene posted is from the new film this year, right?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No clue. I saw someone recently say lady gaga is going to be harley, and thought it was a gag. given WB, I was surprised this got greenlit.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’d really love to believe that this was all done practically, but my cynicism makes me inclined to believe that it’s actually some well-executed CGI - like, that hand and lipstick smear could be composited in from a separate plate, or they could even be 100% CGI. But if it was all done practically, then goddamn that is a well-made shot and kudos to them!

2 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 1

It could actually be if they simply use a mirror on Gaga's side, which is what he looks at and more or less knows where to position himself.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Compositor here - While I don't know for sure, this was likely a "split screen". Not CG, but a combination of 2 practical plates that may have some slight retiming and transform adjustments to get them to line up just right.

2 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

That was actually my first guess!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That’s what I figured, at least for the hand but I thought that the lipstick smear itself was probably a CG element - that way it could be drawn to fit Phoenix’s eventual position, and the plate with her hand could be tracked in to follow that line.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Very likely a combo of things, yeah. A high profile trailer shot like this has probably been nitpicked and tweaked to hell and back in post. But the results are fantastic, it's a beautiful shot.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That scene gave me goose bumps

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

That scene from the movie that hasn't come out yet?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The scene that literally was in the trailer.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was this from the director's cut or something? I don't remember this scene in the movie.

2 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

It's from the teaser trailer for the sequel.

2 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 0

Was that..... Steve Coogan?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm SO excited for the soundtrack. Anyone know if Gaga will be involved? v

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sequel? Holy shit. Didn't expect that.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

It just dropped a day ago.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lady Gaga is playing Harley Quinn

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 2

It's Lady gaGAH!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's a musical.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It's not a full musical. Already been stated.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Why were you down voted. It isn’t a musical just music is a part of the storyline.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

i think it will be a fascinating take, and I trust the director. Of course, I'm not setting my expectations too high, but my curiosity is peaked

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thought Phoenix never did sequels? Or was that Crowe? Someone who's stone hard on not doing them, but now I got Co fused

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NGL, this movie fucking annoyed me because I didn't think the climax gave us a proper pay off for the build up, also Arthur Fleck was just fucking pathetic the entire time. He doesn't become the classic DC Joker we all know and love. I KNOW that in real life, most serial killers, terrorist, murderers are just pathetic losers (see BTK) but I don't want 100% realism in my fictional work.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 24

DC have had one off stories with radically different takes on characters for fifty years at least. The mainline comic book version has changed pretty radically over the almost one hundred years of his existence. There is no singular interpretation of the"Joker". Not liking it is fine but pretending there is one TRUE JOKER is just asinine.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Disney's got a good collection of superhero movies you might enjoy then, a few series as well.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's because it wasn't a film about the classic DC Joker.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

?1

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

agreed

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is from the trailer for the second one, though.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean they were making a movie about "a" joker. Not "the" joker. They were quite clear about that in the run up

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 6

lol what..

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they should have just called it something else, but yeah I know, money

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

That would make more sense if they hadn't then introduced Harley Quinn in the next one. Kind of fucks with their "not THE Joker" thing. Maybe there's a clever plot device, but this feels like a sequel that shouldn't be made being done to cash in on the originals success and removing what made it unique.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I also think they trying for believable villians in the d.c....

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean the batmans....

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think it was more of a movie about social and governmental failures leading to a man's degradation into madness.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It was basically about lack of empathy, and greed.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's been a while but I feel he was trying to get meds but denied, needed them to hold down his job, trying to get aid for his mom, etc

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IIRC he was on meds but they got cut off early on.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah but the larger theme of the society was one that lacked empathy and was full of greed and selfishness. If he had gotten help for his mental illness he could have still gone on his spree with just as much “justification”.
