Which if you didn't know are the same plant as broccoli

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ya know... They could just... Not

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

... did the field flood?

I don't believe this. This is Spaghetti Tree April fools stuff, right?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hard work that pays like shit.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I smother them in cheese sauce

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I'm making brussel sprouts, cheese sauce and sausage right now.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wonder if that field also smells of farts.

2 weeks ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Acres and acres of FART.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, only really comes out when you cook them in a certain way and recent variations have been a lot milder apparently. But I wouldn't know cuz I haven't had them in 15 years.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The really smelly distasteful Sprouts aren't marketed any more. The new varieties are actually edible.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In Brussels, we just call them sprouts.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Horrible little bitter green balls of compressed fart...

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Done right they are tasty as fuck though.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Wow Belgium has nice scenery

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

how do u know it's belgium? it would be nice if OPs labeled their posts. i lived in SE for 15 years and witness/photographed horrific practices/poisoning of the foods during harvest. machinery/vehicles leaking their fluids onto the harvests and no one care, send off to market for consumption. grease/oil/fluids dripping onto sea harvests...

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That’s central Brussels, very nice. The countryside is completely congested though.

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If they're not from the Brussels region of Belgium they're just sparkling minicabbages

Why flood the fields for something that doesn't need to be floated for harvest? Is it like rice where it keeps pests away? Seems unnecessary.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

It's not intentional - they're trying to save the crop here.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I doubt this was purposeful, this video was probably taken when there'd been bflooding due to bad weather or something.

2 weeks ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That would be rough on the equipment and the field. In the background there are what appear to be levies or dykes.

Ha, I hasn't thought of that. Tony Todd is a legend, RIP.

Both lethal. One directly when inhaled, one when inhaled after having passed through a human.

NGL, I had NO idea they grew like that. Neat!

2 weeks ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 0

Fun fact, collard greens are in the same genus (brassica) as brussels sprouts. If you have a garden and grow your own brussels, a lot of people trim the bottom leaves off the stalk as it grows to accelerate growth and improve air circulation. You can then take those leaves and can cook/eat them just like you would collard greens. They are super delicious. If you like collard greens, 10/10 would recommend.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the mustard plant is weird.

2 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Brussel sprouts are the same plant species as cabbage, kale, broccoli, and many others, too.

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Different cultivars!

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Brassicas! One of the best genera out there. Seems like it encompasses much of our leafy green and root veggies that you can get at the store. As you say with the "many others" part, it also includes some of my additional favorites like bok choy, radishes, arugula, cauliflower, collard greens, and wasabi. And some of my not so favorites like rutabaga, turnips, and kale. The list is truly huge though.

If you mean all the water then... they don't, it's just that the field happened to be lightly flooded when that video was taken. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_7tIMJZdEM

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not even the water, I didn’t realize they grew in clusters on a big stalk like that.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is a really labor intensive job for something that's going to rot in my fridge and end up in the garbage.

2 weeks ago | Likes 101 Dislikes 7

shame on u! as a child i hate brussel sprouts, thanks giving + christmas meals only time they were served (family get togethers). i hate dark turkey + asparagus too. no one forced me to eat them. decade later my #1 vegetables i love r brussels sprouts + asparagus. i hate canned cranberries paste too. but costco has fresh real cranberry sauce it's #1 too.

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Do you know how to cook them? Because honestly they are easy too cook and taste delicious.

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

"I couldn't cook a potato."

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Heat in pot with steamer basket, throw on butter, salt a bit, eat. Great. tasty. Use in ramen too.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Split in half, drizzle olive oil / salt / black pepper, oven roast, until the edges are blackened and crispy. Amazing, and way better than the slimy microwave brussel sprouts parents have tried to feed their kids.

2 weeks ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 2

This is the way

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I also do this but with some chestnuts. Chestnuts, pancetta, halved brussel sprouts, blanch the sprouts, then panfry that shit.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is the way.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always do mine with rosemary and sometimes with a Parmesan cream sauce. They're very tasty when cooked properly, but one of those veggies that can be underwhelming or unpleasant if undercooked so don't necessarily write them off if you had them once and didn't care for it.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

People don't seem to know about getting a good char on brassicas, and it hurts everyone involved.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I like em roasted with bacon and drizzled with a balsamic glaze

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This, but I do them in an iron skillet, sriracha and garlic seasoning then drizzle maple over for the last few mins. Crispy, a little sweet heat, and delicious.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Ohhh I'm stealing this, cheers.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I fry mine in garlic butter, salt, and pepper.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How long in the oven, at what temp??

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

200°C, maybe 20-30 minutes. You tell with your nose and your eyes. When it looks good and smells good it's ready.

2 weeks ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Im more of the butter kind but yes to most of what you said. I cook it on a crying pan till it browns

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

f@#ing autocorrect FRYING PAN DAMMIT

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I shred mine and fry them with chopped onion in bacon fat. Then I garnish with the nice crispy bacon I made to harvest the fat from.

2 weeks ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

thats sounds delicious as someone who saves the bacon fat I got to try this

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do the same but I also add couscous and a lemon vinaigrette

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Best I ever had was roasted with macadamia nuts. You have to cook these little bastards To Death for them to be good.

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Add shallots, capers, bacon, and freshly grated parmesan cheese to that and you will be very happy.

All I can think of is that flooded Fields is Spiders galore on those stalks. It's the one thing they don't talk about during cranberry harvesting is that when they flood the fields wolf spiders are everywhere on the top of the berries

2 weeks ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did you know? It takes 16 months before cranberry is ready for picking? So there are 2 batches of cranberries on the same bush: one ready for picking and one that needs another 12 months? When it's picking time, the field is flooded, bushes are shaken to loosen ripe berries which then float for easy harvesting. Unripe berries stay on for another year

2 weeks ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The flooding definitely highlights it, but Wolf spiders are nearly everywhere. If there's a field or forest nearby then you're probably surrounded by them. Of all spiders, I think wolf spiders are the least creepy... I mean, the smooth fur and the way they move feels the least alien, from a mammalian perspective.

2 weeks ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

As a card carrying arachnophobe, it's the jumping spiders that are adorable. Wolf spiders can die in an absolute fuckoff.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

As someone who loves spiders, it's the jumping spiders that can fuck right off. I have touched many a spider but those leaping bastards are the ones that make ME jump.
