These things are super safe. They are 100% waterproof up to the plug and won't energize the plug if there are any faults.

The bigger issue is the civil engineering behind this

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that for the new cyber boat?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It would be reasonably safe, even if the wires were uninsulated. The copper is far more conductive than the water.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

U reposting sum of a batch

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They are fine and Teslas themselves handle water better than combustion cars.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you for the 4 emojis. They really add to the meme.

Would you push one of your kids in there for the lawsuit money?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

could they speed it up a bit by tapping into that high tension line?

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

They have all groundings and are water proof. Imagine being this dim.

Electric. Fuckin. Six.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This was my college jam. Such a good song.

6 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Certified Youth™ here. Is the song called "High Voltage?"

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It sure is, it’s by a band called Electric Six, who did some other jams, such as Gay Bar, and When Cowboys File For Divorce

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Electric have done a new album like every year for over a decade its truly a prolific volume of work

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fyi:Water is not actually a conductor. It is an insulator. If you put salt in it it becomes a conductor. Only destilled water is clean water

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Still that water there in the picture of course has minerals in and is conductive. Just fun fact you probably didn't know

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fun fact you didn't know: it's spelled distilled.

Like a charging station would just explode .... https://i.stuff.co.nz/travel/117662821

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

Not a Tesla specific one either

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As far as explosions go that's a bit underwhelming.

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Yeah, we don't have any nuclear power stations to explode.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah. I mean, compare it to almost any other explosion. A Gas Station for example, FAR more destruction than that.

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

If you don't putt your tong on the socket you'll be fine

6 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 5

What about my spatula?

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But if we dont do the tongue test how do we know its fresh electricity and not short dated own brand crap?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I wasn't planning on putting my tongue

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As long as you click 'em three times first, you'll be fine.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How do you know it's working then?

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Put it on your peepee first

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dont tell me where not to put my tong!

6 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

*putt

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

what have we told you about putting your tong??!

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Tong have no place here. We here at Imgur are upstanding responsible pillars of society.

1/ There's zero electricity in the car cord until the computer in the car connects with the computer in the station. So connecting the car

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

2/ would have no risk. So the issue is the water getting into the base of that charger and if it does getting into the wiring...

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

3/ and both of those issues are pretty easy to assure that it does not. Thus that entire lot is pretty safe. Plus, I suspect the whole

6 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

4/ operation is protected by GFCI circuits.

6 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

One of the times I got shocked that hurt the most was on a GFI protected circuit. Yes, it was a wet location. No, I do NOT trust GFIs

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lifetime totals from age 15 - 60 yo include 4- lightning hits, 1- 480 three phase, & a 230 vac yesterday that I had left off owner turned on

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Alot of charging are 208v and just now seeing gfi of that. But this would have tripped a main breaker if the gfi and everything submerged

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats all probably 100% true but I've seen enough wonky shit in Res construction (I know not the same) to not trust others work that much.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or my own for that matter. I just don't like tempting bad situations.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hear you but do you take elevators? Do you walk across a second floor? Do you drive a car and expect brakes to work? The issue is...

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd be fine plugging in there if I had to. (Rather not, wet feet suck...) but safety wise it's actually 100% fine.

6 years ago | Likes 576 Dislikes 9

And you thought smoking at the pump was risky! ??????

6 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 9

Go for it, I’ll film

6 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

i'd probably wanna wear some serious rubber boots.

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

who's going to risk plugging in when they are ankle deep in water. Do these systems have ground fault protection for personnel?

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 16

You're right. Tesla probably didn't think to design them to be safe in the rain.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They do. Look up the SAE J1772 standard. It has many features from safety, communication and power delivery.

6 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Plugged in my EV many times in pouring rain. It's fine. This isn't a live power cord until connected and the car +charger agree

6 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

And even then, the charger monitors the circuit multiple times per second. If anything is wrong, power is cut instantly.

6 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

No! You are 100% fine!

6 years ago | Likes 203 Dislikes 2

Calm down there, Keanu

6 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fine! You are 100% no!

6 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

Your right

6 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

My right

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

You're left, right left!

6 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

You're putting alot of trust in whoever installed that.

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

Seems like we do everyday inside our homes.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that's the key.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The charger checks the circuit multiple times per second. If anything is out of spec, power is instantly cur.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You are FAR more likely to die from slipping and hitting your head than to be electrocuted by a EV charger.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, as long as water doesn't get through the cabling insulation, it's fine...right?

6 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 2

Yes, because there's a surge shutoff that controls each 2 superchargers or every 4 standard chargers. It cuts power when shit goes down.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

PS this is why you'll see Teslas parked at every second super-charger, if 2 park next to eachother the charge speed gets cut in half

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the GFCI. There is also a repeating check of the circuit by the charger. Power is cut off instantly if anything is out of spec.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And even then, it has to be designed to fail safely.

6 years ago | Likes 64 Dislikes 4

Probably has a gfci type protection.

6 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

'I'm sure they put in a safety. They'd have to, right?'

6 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I would imagine there's a breaker if the current goes too high (such as due to electrocution), it will cut the circuit.

6 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

There is a GFCI as well as a constant check for circuit problems performed by the charger.

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This breaker is designed to handle charging at a rate of 200kW. Regular USA home outlet: 1.8kW.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The breaker or fuse is not necessarily there to keep you from dying.

6 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Yeah it's more there to make sure the expensive shit doesn't go boom boom bang bang

6 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I think he was referring to a ground loop detector, but yeah, you're right.
