I’ve lived in SD for about a year and it’s always cool to see Jets from the the MCAS flying over I-15. It’s definitely an amazing place to.
Tajik
As a Boeing employee, that is an unfortunate name for the event.

That's a huge amount of greenhouse gases being released in my state that says I cannot buy a gas car in the near future.
Northwindlowlander
And that'd be really important, if everyone had a jet plane. The reason cars are targeted is that there's kabillions of them

man the US gets all the cool airshows

I know some people like them, but with the deaths at events, and how wasteful they are, aren’t airshows really something we can do without?
Shitbuttfartpoopasscrapturdpissqueef
Perhaps, but at least in the case of The Blue Angels, It's what they do for a living.

But have a song about the incident, i think
How about “mislay” some F-16 at Ramstein? Or a the southern polish border? Just after some pilots “trained” with them for a few months.
Planes usually don’t have keys. A when an pilot from Ukraine accidentally sit into the “wrong” plane it is not actually stealing.
Filanwizard
I bet a lot of those pilots would love a chance to take the stick of the P51-D, Just to fly a plane that has nothing between them and flying
naturally yes i know the jet fighters do not stay up without the by wire stuff, its part of what makes them maneuver so well
on an unfortunate note there were sometimes crashes during the transition from piston to jets due to the different performance.
basically the old piston pilots would throttle up to full a bit late sometimes, The RR Merlin responded instantly vs jet spool.

I live close to here. My dog and I hated all three days of it.

Not fond of the Ospreys myself. With a big enough engine, and some software, you can get a rock to fly. Most inelegant craft in the air.
CoqRoq
F-117 would like a weigh in on that claim.

According to Legal Eagle, this is illegal in California and could be subject to fines up to $250
sambaah05
Just fold it into the budget. Was a 170 million, so I think they can afford this fine.
Good thing it takes place on Miramar Air Base. So it's UCMJ for traffic violations, not California.
SnarkyRedcoat
Potentially, most of the time it’s just points on your base license - no fines but if you get too many points no more driving on base
Apothecarius
Glad it just Federal pound me in the ass prison instead of civilian jail.

Actually, he goes into that… UCMJ makes it so very much worse.

They're not mutually exclusive, unless you're trying to get free healthcare without paying more taxes.

Instead of insurance premiums, we would pay taxes. And the taxes would be lower than the insurance premiums.

Can someone explain why there is often the 'companion' prop plane with the jet fighter? (1/2)
BeenThereSeenThat
The fact that an F22, with a top speed Mach 2.25 (1,500 mph), can easely fly alongside a P51, top speed 440 mph, might explain it...

Thanks, makes total sense. I was thinking it had some function purpose, like helping to guide under slow speeds. Way overthinking it.

Old and new juxtaposed metaphorically. Symbol of greatness in history and a future of excellence.
Also that looks like a p51 mustang, a WW2 equivalent air superiority fighter of the f-22 flying alongside
It's a "heritage flight", with the old leading the way for the new. It's a gesture of respect for those whose service (and sometimes 1/2

It really isn't, but it's tiring trying to explain things. So I'll say this; most of what is said about it is based on public information >
which may not even remotely translate to actual performance. Which is still classified. And more than a little Russian propaganda.
Performance is good, but longevity and parts logistics are terrible. My buddy has gone to DC 3 times to badmouth Lockheed's part shortages.
I know folks who fly them. They do exactly the jobs they're designed for, which are based on fighting future wars with modern enemies. 1/4
Most of the criticism focuses on obsolete tactics and opponents, like staging a dogfight with no countermeasures. The main benefit of 2/4
the F-35 is that it does a LOT of the pilot's job for them, so the pilot can think more about tactics and coordination. That means an 3/4
F-35 pilot might mark an enemy, then turn away from a dogfight… while sending target data to another plane to actually fire a missile. 4/4
