What it's like to see through glasses

Just got PRK eye surgery about 3 months ago. I see so great now.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, untill they are covered in scratches.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

mm yup. Thats pretty damn accurate

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I dunno. The stuff around the glasses looks pretty clear to me too.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For those of you with issues, check dopamine levels. I went from -2.0 with astigmatism to 20/20 once my levels were fixed

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I WISH my vision was that good with glasses

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine must be broken:

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

First thing I always get shocked by when I get new glasses is how detailed the leaves are.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm 20/2500. My vision is far far worse than this

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I thought HDTV was pretty good. Then I got glasses. Not sure if it's actually better or worse. I can see sharper detail but more jaggies too

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can comform. Came home from visiting my girlfriend who has those cheap pharmacy glasses. Apparently im blind as batshit

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The annoyance of trying to find your glasses, without glasses on. I've sometimes had to put in my contact lenses just to find my glasses.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

well if you have your glasses that far forward it will get distorted either way

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sadly I know

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I got glasses for the first time I remember seeing the wires between telephone poles and being like ohhh

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's a bit misleading. When I put on glasses it gets all blurry and shit.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

20/20 here, yes it is that amazing all the time

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

My vision is better with glasses, but it makes my peripheral vision so much worse I prefer not to wear them.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I remember being so excited I could watch TV without squinting

9 years ago | Likes 149 Dislikes 0

The revelation was great. Years later and I fucking hate how dependent I am on these things.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Main downside of being asian :/

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

My first revelation was how crisp and clear the leaves and clouds were

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Haha yea. I didn't think it was normal to be able to distinguish individual leaves on a tree either.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Add some smudges and scratches to the lens

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is closer to what I see without glasses http://cdna.allaboutvision.com/i/ilasik/slider-still-660x440.jpg

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

I needed glasses for 14 years and genuinely didn't know it, I just assumed that's how everyone saw. First thing I said was 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Wow I didn't realise that your face had so many holes in it" to my mother, after much apologising, it was the best day of my life.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now add the constant need to clean them and hope you never put a scratch that you can see when you wear them.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Glasses made my freckles more noticeable but that's only because I could finally see them

9 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Ayyy good thing!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I put on my glasses and realized how ugly everybody os

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I got corrective surgery done at the beginning of the month. Unless my sight degrades any I won't need glasses ever again.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You may need reading glasses when you're older. The muscles around your eyes will eventually weaken due to age, and surgery can't fix that.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

With LASIK it's assumed that your eyesight will begin to degrade due to aging ~40; reading glasses will be needed.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've thought about doing that but then I saw a video of how it's actually done and some deep part of my being said "HELL FUCKING NO" to that

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If it makes you feel better, it's scarier in concept than actuality. That said, i still DID NOT watch the 'handy video' beforehand.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It IS a bit intimidating I'll admit. And the post-op pain will be the worst thing you can imagine. But it's so worth it though.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have cataracts in both eyes (surgeries are scheduled for mid-Oct and early-Nov. I can't see with or without glasses dammit.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Hope it gets a lot better after the surgery dude, good luck!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Thanks for the kind words! I thought I was just gonna get made fun of on here!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Hope it gets WAY better after the surgery buddy! Good luck!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

but how did you type this

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Everything is foggy. Bright lights wash things out. Things are blurry up close. I can still drive and see, but it's been a learning curve

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's like needing reading glasses and needing to rub the sleep out of your eyes, but wearing glasses doesn't help and you can rub your eyes

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

but things still appear fuzzy and hazy

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh D:

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Based on my own experience, you will be amazed. It was a whole new world for me.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My mom had the surgery a few years ago and she said she forgot what it was like to see so clearly. I'm looking forward to it! Any tips and

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tricks and advice you can lend me about the whole experience? Kinda anxious about laying there with tools probing my eyes

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The procedure takes only a couple of minutes and I never noticed any instruments. The anesthetics will keep you calm but awake. There are a

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

couple of weeks of followup medications.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Make the background much more blurry and you'd be right in my case. I can only see about 30 cm without my glasses.

9 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 0

About 8 freedom units

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Before cataract surgery, 15 cm.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

oh look at you duchess "I can see 30 cm without glasses"! some of us have to deal with 10! *sobs quietly in place, couldn't find corner*

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*trips over you*

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Y'all are blind, Jesus

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It doesn't count as legally blind! Also, wearing glasses or contacts, I can probably see better than you :-)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually no you can't

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess we'll never know, since we'll never meet to test it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

40 cm for me, yay!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If I squint my eyes I can do 40 cm too, badly.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have great eyesight but bad hair loss, dad's genes

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got the hair loss too :-/

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine is 2 cm

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We're not talking about dick sizes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At least i can still see my dick without glasses...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine would have to be about 50 cm long for that to be true.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, that would be inconvenient. The 50cm dick, i mean. You'll have to have open carry permit for that would be difficult to conceal.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol true. Also I bet I'd pass out every time it got hard, from the loss of blood in the rest of the body.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

15cm :(

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

5 Q_Q

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

about right, little less i think for me

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck man, I WISH my vision was that good without glasses.

9 years ago | Likes 810 Dislikes 6

I feel you. 6 and 6.5

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

20/800 myself. People say that wearing my glasses forces a headache worthy of at least a half a dozen bottles of Tylenol.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right -5.35, left -3.25. I can walk around alright without glasses, but will end up with a migraine. Definitely can't drive without them.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This comment thread made me realize how luck I am to have 20/20

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I dispensed contact lenses that were -19.00 yesterday. It could always be worse for most people... except that guy.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My contacts are -11.25 that's an eleven, not a typo. I can't even see my hand in front of my face.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People with crappy eyesight united!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've got -1.25 in one eye and -0.75 in the other. Its only for distance, like reading a whiteboard from the back, but hot damn does it work.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i cant even see a persons face from 3 feet away

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My right eye has 20/100, and left is 20/300... I feel ya...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Same here. My glasses are nearly a CM thick at the widest point, and I have the ultrathin polycarbonate stuff.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wish my vision was that good with glasses. But eye docs either say I'm lying or too picky :/

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You might need glasses

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One time while drinking I set my glasses on the bar to take my hoodie off then my dumbass walks and leaves them on the bar. 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 I thought i was really drunk because everything was blurry then I realize holy shit my glasses. what's up the REFINERY BAR NORTH Pole AK

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

-6.5 in each eye plus a bad astigmatism. I'm so blind.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have a large scar on my right eye causing it to be legally blind.Luckily the brain "fools" itself into not seeing it while my left eyes open

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

-5.75. Never forget.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had really shotty vision with thick glasses, thanks to some circumstances I went to Tbilisi Georgia, and got lasik for $1200, worth it

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Right? I'm -11.5 and I'm always jealous of people that can wake up and be able to see everything clearly.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Are you ok?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Bless you guys with your minus (-) vision. I got +6.5 and a Cornea with more slope that mount everest.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

-7 in both eyes. 150 astigmatism in my right 7.5 in my left.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I never knew the numbers went into the negatives...I have 20/20 privilege and I never even gave it any thought.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been thinking about getting Lasik for a while, glasses can get damn expensive

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Best money I spent. No more contacts, no more pushing glasses up my nose!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish I could get it but I have chronic dry eye and apparently that just makes it worse.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

they're sunglasses and regular glasses in one (the sunglasses are a magnetic attachment) so it was win/win! Zenni Optical is the best. (2)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The glasses range from $20 and up (maybe less, Idk) and they're great quality. I just bought a pair of sunglasses and found out (1)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

zennioptical.com ... All you have to do is put in your prescription info or send them a copy of it so they get it right.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did it a few years ago. Worth it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank Luxotica for that

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

-12.5 -15 here, fuck I'd love to have any of y'alls vision

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Holy shit I was about to bitch about my -8 -9.... Nevermind!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hahaha I was 2 months early so my eyes never fully developed, I'm legally blind!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've got a -7 and a -9.5, retinal detachment gave me a scar in the middle of my vision so I'll never see perfectly through the right eye:(

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

-8.5 here! Luckily i have good contacts ???? still thinking on getting laser surgery though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's what I was thinking. I can see light and color without my glasses. I'm Mr. Magoo.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me too. - 6.25 represent! Or stumble around and bump into stuff. Probably more likely.

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Yeeeeaaaaaaaaah -6.25 club!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

-7, I can never forget I'm not wearing my glasses like my brothers can.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I feel you. My contacts are -9.50. I always carry spares, cause if I lose them, I'm absolutely fucked.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I have the case where I got -7,5 on one eye and -5,25 on the other. I need to bring several spares for each eye...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

-9.50 as well. My biggest fear is being robbed at night and not being able to describe them. "Big black blobs.... Could've been a bear idk"

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yep. -7.5 here. When I go on vacation I usually bring 3 extra pairs.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

-9.5 as well. And I still can't see shit with glasses and contacts.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Join me my blind compatriots!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

-7.5, I get to about 5cm away from my eyes and then everything blurs.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But I can find a splinter real quick. -9.50 here.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maaaaate!!! Me too! -7.5 and -8, bit stronger for my glasses. We're like vision buddies.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not sure what my glasses are (obviously they are close to contacts) - I can swap my glasses with my mum and brother xD *high fives*

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's pretty useful being able to swap glasses like that. I'm the only one in my family with bad vision. It was discovered because when...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was learning to read stuff I was trying to read street signs with binoculars. It was the only way I could read them :D

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

-3.75. Couldn't tell you there was a car in the driveway across the street. Just a fuzzy red blob. I'd be dead if I was born 10,000 yrs ago.

9 years ago | Likes 191 Dislikes 1

natural selection would have been stoked though.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As would I. Being 10,000 years old is not good for your health.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

-7 and -7.5. I was -3.75 in 4th grade

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

-6.75 and -5.50, vision like this would be amazing

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

-6.5 and -7.5

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

i got -3 , -3.25 , pretty much blind without them

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For what it's worth I think all of us would be dead if We were born 10,000 years ago.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

-8.6/-8.5 I'm blind AF.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

-4.75 at one point, doc lowered mine to -4.25 recently though

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

20/20 I love seeing things

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

-2.0 I thought I was bad...

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As someone with -6.25 and -6.5, Haha, thats cute

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

bitch please -7.50 L -7.75 R

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

-7 and -8. What blob?

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Right?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm with you, -7.5 -8.5

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe not. Sabre toothed cats were going extinct 10,000 years ago, so you might have survived.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah I'm -5

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My partners dad has +3 -3 and is famous in local opticians.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice to meet you fellow -3.75

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Also -3.75! Hey there!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My people! Fellow -3.75!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

High fives to my -3.75's!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Oh hell yeah!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Somehow according to my optometrist im nearsighted and farsighted. My eyes are bad enough i couldnt even get my glasses at the usual place

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

-11.45 both eyes. I would have died from a horse long ago

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

-10.25 & -9.5 ..... And I worked on a farm. Screw genetics, man.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

welp, i've been beat.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Upvoted because I had to scroll down way too far to find someone with vision as bad as mine. I feel you man.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

-4.5 reporting in. Can't find my glasses.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting biology fact, you might have perfect vision since a lot of bad vision can be attributed to growing reading books and in school.1

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Look up Inuit myopia 1969, when they changed to modern school systems myopia increased dramatically.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

HA! -3.75? Try -8.00 on for size buddy! Everything is just a mixture of fuzzy colors!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well yeah no one can live that long!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

-5. Sitting in drivers seat of a car. Cannot read anything at all in the dash.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Helloooo -3.75 ^^

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

lol y'all are cute. -8.5 and I actually need to get a new prescription so probably closer to -9. I wouldn't survive in nature

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Technically, growing up in the wild would have exposed you to far more direct sunlight as a child, greatly lessening your nearsightedness.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh wow, I've learned something new today. Thanks homie!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The lack of direct sunlight exposure is currently the best theory for the modern epidemic of nearsightedness.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really? What's the mechanism behind that? Because I was under the impression that focal length and shape of your eyeball were it!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The idea is that natural direct sunlight moderates or calibrates the growth of the eye as it grows from 16.5mm at birth to 24.5mm at age 13.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We don't know the exact mechanism yet but groups who spend most of their childhood years outdoors have vastly lower rates of myopia than us.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've got -13.00 ... I can See sharp as far as the tip of my nose. Only solution is the implantation of an extra lense costing about 6000€.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

jesus christ! you are farnsworth blind.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My god! How do you see now?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just like everyone else.. My spectacles aren't even thicker than usual ones and as I said before I'm using contact lenses most of the time.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's great what they can do nowadays ????

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At least I can wear contact lenses. Sometimes I enjoy going home without them. It is like being on drugs with all the lights of the city.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel your pain. -9 in my dominant eye and -6 in my eye that I actually can't see out of.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
