Our equivalents of the thrift store (charity shops) are getting worse and worse here. Something like that would have immediately been pulled and put up on eBay or sent to a store in a place where they know they can charge way more for it. I do part time work at one place, and in the warehouse they have huge lists of brands to look out for and they are NOT to go on the shop floor under any circumstance. You've found something amazing though, I'm pleased for ya!

Why can't I ever find one at a halfway decent price. Here the clapped out ones goodwill is slapping $75 on.

Creative used for 2nd hand starships . . . .

I have the end-table/cabinet version of it. Hoss of a machine. I also went and picked up a 201-2 because my wife got over her fear of sewing machines with the 503 and kind of took it over.

Autocorrect cares not, it'll just throw whatever word it prefers in, little drunken jerk. Has been changing out to put for the past 3 days since an update on my phone.

My recent find. 1958 Sk. Only does lock stitch but enough for me. Congratulations on your find OP.

Holy shit that's an awesome find! Would love to take that thing for a spin. Lots of oil and cleaning first, though!

I'm not 100% sure but I think that's the same model my mom had when I was a kid.

If you can understand how a shuttle hook bobbin assembly works, you'll be just fine, my friend

Sad thing is I bet nobody wanted that and also it's going to work perfectly for another 80 years.

Might be wise to give it a lube.

I don't think it is sad. it's nice it was donated to get a second life instead of landfilled. I love a lot of things I've found in thrift stores and flea markets.

I refuse to get a computerized machine. There's literally no need for it- just more parts to break. And when it does, your problems go from being purely mechanical, with mechanical fixes, to potentially tech AND mechanical. And for what? I see no value in it. The machine I have now (other than my hands) is from the 70-80's, and works fine, even with spandex and faux fur

Sorry I can't finish your school play costume, Jimmy. The sewing machine needs a software update and the router is acting up.

A few years ago I bought a lovely Japanese made Frister and Rossmann from the 70s. Quality of stitches is just outstanding. There are loads of very high quality machines out there, real heirloom machines. Do your research - there's lots of info available online.

I did simple repair every day in my old job and finally bought my own machine - a Husqvarna from the late 70's for 150 bucks refurbed. Absolute pinnacle of quality build and simplicity. It will long outlive me. Only downside is that replacement parts are starting to get scarce.

$150? my friend, I've found multiple in near mint condition for $75 or less (one was $10 and basically untouched) at garage sales. At one point my mother acquired 6 of them in one summer for less than $150 total.
