Dog tax: Amaterasu offers her daily morning glare because she's awake, I'm awake, and she's not receiving chest scratches yet. 1 upvote = 5 scratches for tomorrow morning!

#16 Hey, 9am means more than a third of the day has already passed.

#20 Whenever I see one of those "I want to be a frog" memes, I remember I live in an area with lots of herons and think to myself "No. No I do not."

#41 - form two teams, each grab a leg and pull like a wishbone - whoever gets the greater portion divides the inheritance between them.

#38 Note the lack of Geniculate Antennae, so it is not an Ant.

#13 Doesn't seem fair to the Amazon warehouse workers caught in the middle, but can't make an omelet without cracking a few spines I guess

#5 Those stories are about rich people. If you were poor I think they just beat you with a stick till you got back to work.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Yeah poor people couldn't write, couldn't afford paper, didn't have a way to publish/nobody went into their office when they died and published their musings.

#43 at least that explains why my letter was late

#1 i was in a cowboy bar in tokyo and the two bartenders and other customer spoke zero english. I managed to order a beer (biru) and just sat there. Then i noticed that both bartenders had a bunch of keychain figures and i also knew who they where, because a friend had forced us to watch one piece during lunch the day before. So i was like one piece! And they where like hai! Dangled one and said like.. Favoritu and i was like crocodile and then we where best friends for a few hours.

#1 I once was in a local restaurant and at the next table was a man and a woman; it turned out to be a first date. The woman turned out to be a Japanese diplomat. The man would not stop talking about how much he loved samurai films.

First and last date, most likely.

#31 This is accurate. I can still sometimes hear the screaming. No little portuguese. Not until I have Açorda.

#9 I don't think I've ever heard that song. I've sure as hell heard Ken Ashcorp's "I'm your slave" though...

I think it was S.O.S. by Apocalyptica that did me in.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#18 wasn't that partly a premise of an episode of Supernatural? Some ancient Aztec warrior dies and his organs go to some people who start acting strangely?

seriously though, finding a spherical rock really makes my day, always has, i know a place where all (vast majority) of the stones are like that, it’s a secret though.

2 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 0

Secrets of the spherical society. They're all around the globe.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The marble store?

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I don't think I've ever in my life found a spherical rock

#5 something I've realized recently is the vast majority of the "classical" literature that exists is from the tiny minority of wealthy people. I feel like it's been changing over time. The already wealthy people still have more opportunities to become writers, but there's a lot more successful writers nowadays that didn't start off rich.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Hmm, I'm not so sure. Many of the most famous writers throughout history experienced at least periods of poverty, either because they were born poor, or by later misfortune or mismanagement of their finances. In many cases they were like Jane Austen (dependent on wealthy relatives) or Dorothy L. Sayers (privileged in her education, but certainly not wealthy until she became a bestselling author): telling stories of wealthy characters to live vicariously a life they could not themselves afford.

#42 not cannons, but firearms specifically. Or hand held cannons. Knights took a long time to train compared to a massed group of people with guns with just enough accuracy, once guns became cheap enough to produce

2 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 0

It wasn't the guns themselves, it was the logistics. Knights were simply too EXPENSIVE compared to well trained infantry. That being said... yeah, the knights got hit with cannonballs and bullets. That's where the expression "bulletproof" came from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proofing_(armour)

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

I thought the longbow was the weapon which made armor obsolete. An arrow shot from a longbow was able to penetrate plate armor. Cannon was used to break up formations of archers (1460).

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Longbows and expert archers have existed for millennia, mostly in Persian/eastern armies (but also Crete was famous for their archers), long before knights existed, although other fairly heavily armored infantry were around. Personally, I think knights were a counter to expert archers, as shrugged off a lot of arrows.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Yup. Heavy armor didn't go fully obsolete until after the Napoleonic wars, but highly trained and highly skilled knights were gone well before the 30 years war.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, here's her Twitter bio: "full-time music supervisor, part-time idiot"

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah yeah, i've gotten that far, too, just like what about her made screenshots of her tweets show up in all corners of the internet. there are plenty of quasifunny part-time idiots whose tweets do not show up all over the place, so i am curious as to why hers do. otherwise I've been asking this for a good 6 months everytime i catch her in a dump and this is the first response i've gotten, so i salute you @igglebotato
