There were 400+ children on the playground, which was over a chain link fence from the main road. I'm REALLY glad it wasn't me who had to meet with those parents.

For those of you who don't know, TSS is a sometimes-fatal condition, which in about 50% of cases has been linked to misuse of tampons.

We know, sweetie. We know.

You get a fantastic poker face...

He was an only child raised by a single mum, so it's entirely likely he'd never seen a naked man, but that situation is reasonably common and we'd never had a reaction like that before!

Presumably for more practice.

But seriously, this was from my own sex ed when I was a teenager, and I'm at least 80% sure they were actual dildos.

Child logic: Seen mum shaving her body. She must be man-hairy unless she shaves. My fate is sealed.

She was a biology teacher. She said she needed it for an anatomy lesson...

Some of those videos are useful visual aids to explanations. Some of them are fucking hilarious. There's quite a bit of crossover.

When I mentioned this one to my partner he said "We've been doing it wrong ALL THESE YEARS?"

This was from someone I trained with, who had to bite back all manner of witty retorts that would have gotten him fired.

She really wasn't comfortable with it, but she told a friend and the friend blabbed.

The two most common questions. 1) No, pornography does not feature in our lesson plans; 2) This is the one subject where we actively try to dial back the "practical" approach.

This happens every year. It's terrible and hilarious.

It was good that he reacted to that scene with horror and disgust, but, parents, I can't stress this enough: FILM RATINGS ARE THERE FOR A REASON. YES, your 10-year-old may be mature enough for a 12-rated film, and YES, sometimes it's hard to see why films were rated so harshly, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD CHECK BEFORE YOU WATCH THEM. You have NO IDEA how much damage you could do to that kid with a single film!

Their entire answer to our three-week, six-session program was "Once your periods start it means you can get pregnant."

I'd like to add that most parents who withdraw their children do a better job than this. But some of them do a really awful job, and the terrible thing is that we have no right to correct them until the child hits human reproduction in biology classes.

My school is happy to work with and support parents in explaining things to the girl when this happens, but I know a lot of schools can't/won't.

She didn't understand why everyone laughed.

He knew EXACTLY what he was doing. And his penis was stuck to someone else's work.

When the school's report came out, it mentioned the "fun, interactive" approach the school took to its teaching.

A common indicator of child sex abuse is age-inappropriate sexual knowledge/behaviour. Of course you use your judgement, but due to several unfortunate precedents we're bound by law to write down every single thing that could POSSIBLY be a concern to us at any time, no matter how trivial it may seem at the time. This is one of the most paperwork-heavy times of year for just that reason.

That poor child who saw the rape scene in a film. I hope they don't think sex is violent for the rest of their lives

My parents refused to have the talk with me until I was engaged. Without sex ed I wouldn't have known about periods until I got mine.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I never understood why it was called the "birds and the bees" - can someone help?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bees pollinating plants is a great parallel for human fertilisation, birds laying eggs is a great one for ovulation. Had to look it up.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i had sex-ed when i was 13, it was okay even though everyone had already known at beginning about the stuff...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same here, or at least for me, I didnt want to waste my time learning what I already knoe

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Know

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had sex-ed when I was 10 and the first lesson the teacher had us write all the rude sex words we knew. If only I knew then what I know now

10 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

you would still be there writing lol

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

*giggles* penis!

10 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

damn it, kevin!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That one made me laugh. My 7 year old things Jesus' name was Kevin. I have no idea why.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My mum used to swear "Jesus H Christ" and for years I thought his middle name was something really mundane like Harvey or Harold.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Anatomy lesson, of course... of course that biology teacher did...

10 years ago | Likes 260 Dislikes 1

...use it to massage her neck..

10 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 0

Old lady I used to work for tried telling me it's an "Armpit massager" 's like "Woman, I'm 20. Do you really think I don't know about this?"

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did you tell her you were an expert in this field?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have tried, but being my elder, she always denies my expertise. BUT THEN ASKS ME TO FIX HER COMPUTER AND TV!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those parents showed their kid a rape scene as education? Did they hate their child and want to scar him for life?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It wasn't educational, it was just in some random film they let him watch without thinking.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I guess the only relatable thing was back when I was 10 ish, and us boys had to watch this 90's video, and after we just got deodorant

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

(2/2) and a little booklet of pubic information. The girls got a huge bag of stuff though and were basically horrified

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Us girls got a "goodie bag" with a pad, a cleaning wipe and a mini calendar. Deodorant would have actually been useful.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

When it came time for sex ed, my parents handed me a book and said, "If you have any questions, just ask us."

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Out of interest, did you feel it was enough? And if you had questions, were they answered to your satisfaction?

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I was way too embarrassed to actually ask any questions. It was pretty sufficient, content-wise, I think.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Fair enough. I fully support parents handling sex ed themselves, as long as they do a decent job of it.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well, I went to catholic school, so there was essentially no sex ed in my life besides my book. And the internet, in later years.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lad in my class naively asked if every boy went through a gay stage, just like his older brother did. Really dropped his bro in it.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'm from Germany and it was just a regular part of biology classes. Not a special thing, everybody had to be there. Nobody got pregnant...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you want to see if a movie is ok for your child Google " imdb parents guide".

10 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 2

Common sense media is another good resource and it has games, apps, book reviews as well as TV and movies

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeha.. think I just realized something about myself because my parents let me watch like every movie they watched...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks for this. Recommended to any parent who wants their kid to see a film certified above their age. It's usually fine, but sometimes...

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Movies have gotten worse about slipping things into the pg-13 rating. My rule of thumb has always been to check the reasons for the rating.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My ex had my 5 year old watch repo the Opera and she came home freaking out someone would come steal her organs :/

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some adult content I'd be ok with a kid seeing if I had a chance to talk about it with them first, like drug use maybe. A head's up is good.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Our sex ed came from volunteers from the local college, a bunch of 20 somethings teaching 9-10 year olds about sex. South Georgia sex ed!

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

The big question is, was it what you needed to know?

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It was correct from a biological standpoint, otherwise no.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah, you really need the biological facts in time for the onset of puberty, but there's a lot more to it than that.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

But that's all we got, that was the problem. Nothing on how to deal with it, the gender of your preference, and barely anything on STIs.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

The American education system REALLY needs to get its shit together.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Serious question: Why is it bad for children to be curious about each other's bodies? As soon as they know there's two genders, they're (1

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

gonna start asking questions or find a reliable way to get information if you don't answer them.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not bad at all, and we encourage curiosity but also teach that there are appropriate ways to find things out, and then there are routes

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

best left untravelled (eg dropping your pants in front of a few hundred kids).

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember playing "You show me yours, and I'll show you mine" in the second grade, with Billie Jean Massey (waaay before MJ).

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We had very boring sex ed. We weren't allowed to ask anything that could be called a "personal question," including asking if it was fun

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Kevin's a dick.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

This should be top comment. Just shows you how observant people in here are.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Why is this guy being so mean to... *realisation* AAAYYYY!"

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

fucking A you win

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got my first period at 11. My mom neglected to tell me that it would end in a few days . I spent an entire week thinking I was going to

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

bleed every day until I turned 40.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Good god, there'd be rivers of the stuff...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My sex ed was basically just "LOOK AT ALL THE DIFFERENT STDs YOU CAN GET!"

10 years ago | Likes 218 Dislikes 0

Same. I really thought it was gonna be a more common thing

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mine was literally a "can you guess what part of the body this used to be before the STD" video right after lunch.

10 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

Don't have sex. Because you will get pregnant. And die.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Texas public schools. It is atrocious.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Messed me up, too. Someone I knew got chlamydia last year and it brought me back to basically being told it was a death sentence. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

When they told me it was fine, they were on antibiotics, I was angry that I'd been taught such harmful lies and believed them. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That, and a birthing video. Fuck but that was traumatizing. No wonder the fainting dad joke is a thing.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Went to Catholic school. "Anatomy and STDs. No more questions, ok everyone!"

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, that and a recorded birth. Freaked me the hell out.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mine was the cups of water and look how Sally slept with Ted and John, now John has Ted's STDs.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As a nurse, I would feel a lot more comfortable teaching my child about this, rather than a teacher I have met once or twice.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

As I've said, I'm all for parents teaching their own kids as long as they do a good job of it (which, as a nurse, I'm sure you would). The

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

issue I have is with the huge number of parents that do a terrible job of it, don't do it at all, or worse, teach them incorrect things.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least you would (presumably) actually teach them something, while knowing thing or two about it yourself. Many parents won't do this.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Exactly. In an ideal world children would learn this from their parents, but history tells us that this hasn't been a great approach so far.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Serious question. Do you teach about condom sizes? Because I know a shitton of guys who said they disliked condoms and I had to tell them >

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

> that this was probably because they got the wrong size. Some of them were my BFs, and they DEFINITELY had the wrong size.

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Where I live they certainly don't. Had to figure that out myself after 2-3 times of going at it and losing sensation in my junk.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Doesn't help that the "big" condoms are the same size as regulars, but 2cm longer and mushroom shaped instead of being straight at the head.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The only solution is to find an online store where they list the width. Also, they put it on the back of the pack. Typically it's 52mm.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Forgot that I'm an adult and the Internet has everything I will ever need. I have now ordered some proper sized ones

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I teach primary so we don't cover contraception too closely. As for secondary schools, some go into more detail than others.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Thank you! Interesting to know.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So were they a lot smaller than normal or alot bigger...?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They do not have to be "a lot" bigger. You don't realise the difference until you find a condom that actually fits.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Asking the important questions.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm not looking forward to explaining to my daughter that she's an IVF baby

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

IVF?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Invetro fertilization. Aka "test tube baby"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why? Most kids either wouldn't understand it enough to care or would find it really cool and brag about it to all their friends.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm not sure. Just gives her something to be isolated on by other kids. Kids can be mean.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The longer you wait to tell them something like that, the more likely they'll resent you for it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I read "special ed" at first and was surprisingly not shocked at the stories all being sex-related.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I read the same thing.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same here!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I wish our Sex Ed courses had been as thorough.

American?

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Yep!

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

No offence to your country, but its sex ed system needs to get its shit together. The more I hear, the worse it sounds.

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

You aren't wrong. It is a travesty. Too many religious nuts don't want their kids to know about sex until they marry.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Things like genital health are relevant to everyone, virgins included, and once married the information doesn't magically appear.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I think you are mostly hearing about extreme/outdated examples. I last had it 5 or 6 years ago (in the bible belt) and the only important...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

thing that wasn't covered is how to put on a condom. My mom teaches 4th grade, and they learn about general stuff even then, which means...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not really, it just does very little on contraceptives, but the point gets across.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's absolutely terrible. Had a parent-of-teens tell me that their kids learned way more than they were comfortable with, so the state's 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sex ed was obviously going overboard. Meanwhile, my HS graduation ceremony in 2012 included a moment to applaud the (not few) girls who 2/?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

managed to graduate on time despite being mothers. 3/3

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I swear you're from the uk cause I went through all those types of lessons when I was in school

10 years ago | Likes 109 Dislikes 1

Wasn't OFSTED the dead giveaway?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Calling the teacher, Miss, was for me.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And also because the album description talks exclusively about UK schools? ;P

10 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 1

I'm at Bristol uni and writing my dissertation about sex ed in UK schools, it's really interesting! Thank you for this!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Interesting topic! Mine was on the place of pop culture in the classroom, so I got to watch a whole season of Pokemon and call it research.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And just maybe because of the use of the word 'Mum.'

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I'm 31 now, in the UK... We never had any sex ed classes when I was in school!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am 22, i had 3 sex ed classes, all while we were 15, one was an american video about having sex WILL give you std's and children 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

one was a diagram of sex organs, and the last was that video again 1/2 less to say than i thought.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

30, I had sex ed when I was 11 in year 6, then had some in biology class in secondary school.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i wonder... when i was 9-11 (year 5 and 6) i was at a fairly religious private boarding school... maybe they had just decided not to bother.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be honest, I was too immature at the time. The birds and the bees had been explained to me by a friend a few years before when he said

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

the plug goes in the socket. Then it all made sense.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah my sex Ed in the U.S. pretty much consisted of "you're going to be changing, but don't kiss or have sex otherwise you'll get an std"

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I went to private school where the didn't teach sex Ed. 500 students totalish. More ten a dozen girls got prego lol

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I went to a private school (K-8) which had none, though when I hit the 8th grade, they piloted a class. By then I knew everything they said.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That age would be roughly 13, I think. The internet is a fast teacher, and apparently it used to be better, if kids are so confused now.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Given the number of fetishes on even mainstream websites, I'm surprised that more kids don't swear off sex forever.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Kissing leads to sex, and if you have sex you will get pregnant and then you will die." Can't remember what that's from but I love it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

"Don't have sex, because you will get pregnant and die!" - coach carr, mean girls

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We put condoms on bananas. During the teacher demo he let go, it rolled up, flew off and it hit me in the HEAD.

10 years ago | Likes 147 Dislikes 1

Relax, the condom hadn't been on anyone's dick

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sincerely sorry for what you went through. (Straight face straight face straight face straight face DAMN)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is your name Amanda? This happened to my friend during our sex ed class XD

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope! Humiliating, funny years later.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Aw man, what kind of liberal paradise are you from? Our sex ed couldn't even talk about condoms.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Mine talked about them; but I don't remember anything about menstruation in it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

how can you have sex ed, without condoms, I mean what's the point?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Florida law. Teachers can only answer questions about contraception, not teach it independently. (or that's how it was when I was in HS)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was a half-semester class at my school and it was mostly about STDs and smoking. And people came and did skits about abstinence.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What is uh, toxic shock syndrom. And how does it relate to tampons?

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

My friend used super tampons cause they need to be changed less often. Got TSS, ended up in ICU after almost dying. Never found the tampon..

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

My friend almost died from it..infection that gets in your bloodstream from bacteria after wearing a tampon too long/too tight (jumbo size)

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

A sometimes-fatal illness caused by toxins in the nose or vagina. It can come about for a variety of reasons, but tampons are an excellent

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

The toxins come from bacteria growing on the tampons. Hence why you need to change them several times each day.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

place for the bacteria that cause these toxins to thrive in, especially when not regularly changed, or more absorbant than needed.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

It comes on very quickly and the symptoms are flu-like at first. An estimated half of TSS cases are of tampon users during their periods.

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Ah. Okay. Thank you

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

No problem :) See, THIS kind of thing ought to be on the sexual health curriculum.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

How could a boy never have seen a naked male before? Did his mom also not have mirrors?

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

*Adult* male. There's a difference in appearance, and it's unlikely he ever looked closely at himself.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

When my son (now 6) was 4, I had him start washing his own genitalia during bathtime. The first time I had to tell him to really look & 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

check that he was cleaning properly. He got his first good look at it and started screaming. After I'd calmed him down I asked why he 2/3

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

was screaming, and he said he "never knew it looked like a monster worm". I set him straight, went off on my own and LMAO. 3/3

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I just spat coffee everywhere - fantastic reaction to his own genitalia! Will refer to penises as 'monster worms' from now on.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I explained to him that all men have those, and he said "I'm a boy". So I say, "well, yes, but a boy is like a man. A little man" 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He now calls his penis his "little man". I prefer "monster worm" though...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What state do you live in? No state I've lived in allows comprehensive sex education in schools. Good for you!

10 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 9

I think it varies from region to region. I got sex ed in 6th grade, and then in 8th grade. A buddy 20 miles away got abstinence-only crap.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I assume you live in states with chronically poor education standards and high rates of STIs and teen pregnancies

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

define comprehensive cause i had it in va from 5th to 10th grade and i think they did a great job

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They mentioned ofsted so it's probably the UK

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My school in upstate NY did, but I think we were the exception.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sex Ed for 10 year olds? We didn't have it until 6th grade

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

"Sex ed" isn't all about intercourse. It also covers puberty, menstruation etc. Periods can start as young as 9 or 10, so we start early.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I remember going through that in the second grade in public education. Nothing sexual, but mentruation and gender differences.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah, we still consider it 'sex education' but a lot of people don't realise it's sex as in gender-related. That's what the whole subject is

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

about: the biologies of the different genders and the parts those biologies play in reproduction etc. It isn't 'sex' as in 'intercourse'.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ohio allows it. It's up to school board policy.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Ah yes, the all-knowing school board. The one in my area decided that the high schools should serve lunch at 10:30am, and that the 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

students who went to the district's trade school(welding, culinary, etc) in the morning should only get a 15-minute lunch period at their2/?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

all the food yet. Good times. 4/4

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

home school. If the bus was late, you had to go talk to the principal to get the cafeteria to reopen and hope they hadn't thrown away 3/?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm pretty sure I got comprehensive sex ed at this age in Massachusetts. Videos, lectures, Q&A time, the works.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Also from Massachusetts, had that stuff in the early 90's.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm in the UK. Sex ed is one of our better-organised areas :)

(2) Thirdly St Joseph's in Laverstock. Still pushing for some Sex Ed in Salisbury Sixth Form and they're just not providing it

Clinic at your 6th form? There's one at my 6th form college in Hampshire, it's great for advice and free condoms

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They probably won't provide it in 6th form as it's assumed you'd have learned about it in Primay & Secondary. Do you have a sex health 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where though? I went to a very well known school (not for all the right reasons) and didn't have a single sex ed class :( I'm glad my (1)

A large city in the South. Most of it isn't covered until secondary, but puberty and especially menstruation are covered in primary.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We didn't get any of that in primary. Or secondary.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And you went to a UK school? When?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1 - In Austin, TX, we got a standard education on puberty/menstruation and how babies are made in 4th grade. In 9th grade...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2 - a PP rep came out and gave us all a week long, in depth course in sex, abuse, relationships, contraception, rape, available resources...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3 - I have always felt so lucky that the public school I went to was in such a liberal area and I had such a great education on the subject.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

4 - I never felt confused or afraid of sex, and knew what to do if I had questions or needed help. I'll make sure my kid gets the same.

Heheh. My Texas sex ed was literally a 2hr school assembly in 7th grade. "Do you want to see a vagina? Surprise, it's CHLAMYDIA!!" 1/

Blubbering woman: "All my friends had sex, and I did it ONE TIME and I got pregnant. I was forced to marry him and I HAD TO WEAR BLUE!" 2/

NEVER HAVE SEX UNTIL YOU'RE MARRIED, DON'T INFECT PEOPLE BY BEING A SLUT, HAVING SEX IS HAVING A GUN THAT WILL KILL EVERYONE YOU KNOW. 3

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well, it sounds very... intense. So, out of curiosity, how easy is it to actually GET contraception in the US in terms of cost/availability?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on region, really. City doctors are less judgmental. You have to lie to country doctors - painful periods, you see. Plus, $$$.

There are parents currently having rallies to stop sex ed being taught in my son's school. Thanks for a lighthearted look at this.

The safest way to have sex is to not have it at all! What a good job protecting the children we are doing. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOURE PREGNANT?!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My sister is 16 and has never had sex ed and her and her friends ask me TONS of questions bc I'm the only one who answer truthfully.

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I believe those people are uneducated arseholes.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Are you in Ontario? Sounds like what's going on here.

Teen pregnancy and STDs are higher than ever before... Tell me how teaching kids to fuck has been effective?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 26

Boy, oh, boy did you come to the wrong place.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Abstinence only is still the only form sex ed for a vast majority of students. Tell me how is teaching kids not to fuck been effective?

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Teen pregnancy is down 50% and the majority of STDs are among 40 and 50 year olds where divorce is highest.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

See, this is why you shouldn't just pull statistics from your ass.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What's your own opinion, out of interest? And the justification of the parents at the rallies?

10 years ago | Likes 285 Dislikes 2

Sex Ed is necessary, young children can & do masturbate (source? I remembering it earlier than 10 yrs of age), it's a natural & should be -

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

learned about, what can happen during/after puberty, & about consent. Children are curious, that curiosity can be exploited w/out education-

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's not a matter of IF a child learns something, it's about WHEN, it can't be prevented, only guided

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Probably should mention I'm Canadian. I think sex ed is essential, because we can't teach him properly, and not knowing is dangerous. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 225 Dislikes 1

Where in Canada?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Toronto?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Other parents in my area are against it in school at all, not to mention that the curriculum was expanded for same sex education. 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 205 Dislikes 3

So what's their reasoning?

10 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 0

Mostly it's misinformation and fear.

10 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 1

Most are orthodox Muslim, they don't want their kids learning about gay sex acts. Which is not in the curriculum, I read it. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 120 Dislikes 1

Oh yeah all that reproduction going on in the gay community

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, most curriculums will mention sexualities as a moral debate question, but I've never known a school to give a how-to!

10 years ago | Likes 87 Dislikes 0

I think they also object to their kids being taught that homosexuality is ok. The curriculum does have parts to try and stop bullying.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

In case you're interested you should look into the change in sex ed legislation in ontario, I'm pro the changes (teaching the importance 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Of consent for both genders &safe sex for all activities including anal and oral) but many take issue and I'd love to get your oppinion 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I am interested I'll look into it some more, but I think consent might be the most important inclusion in sex ed, it's been ignored too long

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yeah, I'm pretty proud of my province for moving forward with it. it teaches more than no mean no (it teaches people convincing someone is 1
