9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's weird, but I've never though of Harry Potter as a children's book series.

9 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 2

I think there are a lot of themes which aren't juvenile so tend to agree. But JKR also made each one fun & whimsical enough for balance.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The whole series is for children.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The first book was definitely a children's book.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'd argue it's a series that starts for children and grows up with them

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I'd say that makes sense. It starts out very nice and whimsical and then death and war and suffering and pain.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is that purely because you weren't a child when you read it yourself? Because it quite obviously is

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 9

What about all the deaths in the last few books? That's not really for children.

Number 13 is The Twits, not Matilda

As a dad that has read Cat in the Hat every night for the past year to my 3 yr old son, the first quote is not from that book.

9 years ago | Likes 314 Dislikes 0

I believe it's a quote he's attributed to having had said, not sure why the book was listed though

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Number 7 is the places you'll go as well.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No, that one's actually correct. Still, a little basic research never hurt anyone.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And there are many more profound and meaningful Seuss quotes than these. The first one is good but the rest are lame.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a kid who was read to and learned to read w/that book I knew instantly it was wrong. ^Good on ya for passing the story on to the next gen

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously, at least five of these are misattributed--and that's just off the top of my head without any reference checking.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i have attributed it to Bernard M. Baruch in the past.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My son requests cat in the hat every single night.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And the Matilda quote is actually from The Twits too

9 years ago | Likes 78 Dislikes 0

Yep. Reading all Roald Dahl to my kids this summer... Didn't think that one was right.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And it doesn't even remotely sound like something he wrote

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, Wizard of Oz is by L. Frank BAUM not "braum"... This post is a mess.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you hadn't made the comment, I would have. I had it very nearly memorized from reading it to my kids, too.

9 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 0

Yeah. That destroyed my trust in the series of quotes. Why read it?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I stopped reading after the first one was wrong. cat in the hat is on the couch next to me ready for reading to my 2 year old tonight, again

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

#4 what is the philosophers stone???

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

It's book 8. Details the love story between Potter and Malfoy. Shows Ron's jealous side.. It explains tons of back story.

9 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

The original title for the sorcerers stone. I believe UK copies were printed with the philosopher title.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Ah, thanks for that clarification.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

It's the Philosopher's Stone everywhere (that it's printed in english) except the states, where it is the Sorcerer's Stone

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Its the philosopher stone in aus or at least it was for many years.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorcers stone in America

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Lame freedom titles.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Gets almost lamer in Frogland. Here, it was basically "Harry Potter and the Wizarding School." At least it's personalized?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think they changed it, though.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's likely due to an assumption that the mythology behind the philosopher's stone wasn't known in America

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I think it was because the word "sorcerer " was associated with anti christ or something. But idk I could just be lying right now

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Says the one who didn't know it was the sorcers stone

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

That's what I know it as. I didn't realize the uk and us had different titles.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

They have different everything. Its all topsy turvy over there

2/2 affair he was having at the time. Her suicide note is in her wiki. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helen_Palmer_Geisel
