The FN P90 was developed in the late 80's by FN Herstal as an attempt to satisfy a request from NATO to replace weapons, mainly handguns and submachine guns, chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum. The round that they came up with was the 5.7x28mm, a bottlenecked round designed to fire a light projectile at high velocities.
The P90 was an overall success, being adopted by numerous Special Forces groups and agencies that require a PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) including the US Secret Service. This is a PS90, which is essentially a semi auto P90 with a 16 inch barrel for sale to the US civilian market.
Looking down from the top you can see how the unique magazine lay horizontal across the top of the rifle, allowing a 50 round capacity.
This version of the PS90 includes a picatinny rail with rather terrible iron sights integrated with them.
Due to the rounds being situated horizontally in the magazine of a rifle, they have to be rotated to line up with the bore of the rifle. This is done with a ramp located at the rear of the magazine.
To disassemble, start by pressing in the button located under the magazine and push the upper receiver off of the stock.
Next the bolt and recoil spring assembly can be pulled out of the front of the stock.
The PS90 is a straight blowback gun so the bolt has to have fairly significant mass to operate safely.
Here is the extractor at the bottom and ejector at the top of the bolt face. The PS90 ejects downward through the stock of the weapon.
Here is the ejection port
There is also a dust cover which can be snapped into place to keep the weapon clean.
Next the buttpad can be pushed up and off the rear of the stock
Finally you can remove the trigger pack by lifting up on the black lever and pulling the pack out of the rear of the stock.
The trigger pack is made almost entirely made out of polymer. There are several generations of PS90 trigger packs, earlier generations included an inoperative auto sear that was removed in the later generations.
Here it is with the other FN firearms of my collection. It fits right in!

This is a weapon of war.

Not really, its a personal defense weapon, its designed to be concealable and for close in work. A full size rifle is better for war.

Does the rotation of the rounds in the magazine lead to jamming?
pluviofile
Not if you keep it clean. But unlike other conventional fire arms the magazines are difficult to carry spares of.
supraman13
No, it's actually quite reliable.
DungeonMaster69
Designed for rapid fire, shouldn't have problems at all with a single-fire only model
fistermatic5000
Oddly enough, no. My friend has one and we shoot it often. Very reliable. Also, not crazy expensive either.
OneAngryPacifist
I got mine for 1800 a while back. Favorite firearm of all time
fistermatic5000
I've seen them as low as 1400, still considering what you're getting, pretty damn cheap. I love shooting it. That mag empties fast though.
OneAngryPacifist
It really does. I probably have fired easily over $800 worth of ammo with it alone.
southy5678
Over 20,000 rds with American eagle ammo and cheap magazines. Not a single jam, misfire, or any other complication. Best investment Ive made
aUsername85
"Investment" implies that you are earning a return. Do you rent the gun out for income? Has it substantially appreciated in value?
asanimgurianiliealot
Some guns do appreciate in value actually. For the rest resale value is typically very close to purchased cost.
rahldese
Not all returns are financial. Some can be just enjoyment, avoiding frustration, or other things that are just nice.
Areanywittynamesnottaken
How much does it usually run?
BetterDeadThanRed
On average between $1200 and $1400. I have, however, seen one for $1150. It's on my list as a tax return weapon.
FlatPlutoSociety
"Tax return weapon" is a weirdly ominous phrase.

firearms are one of the few things that still hold a lot of their value (sometimes go up) after you buy them.
southy5678
I bought it for $998 and it books for $1300 or more now. Soooo yep investment. Firearms can be a great mode to save or even make money.
MattC867
Only an American would refer to a fucking machine gun as an investment.
hahnsb2
Not an MG. Actual MGs command incredible money due to the 1986 ban. Like $25,000 for an M16 lower. Certainly an investment.
TylerKoenig
It's not a machine gun, just so you know.
Megarith
As a Austrian/German, I beg to differ. Only a frenchman would not see the advantage of automatic weaponry. #WW1Lessons
MattC867
It's not for hunting and unless the apocalypse happened it's not for self defense. It's a toy not an investment

@op a SCARH is legal is America?
Freaknik48
Should be as long as it's semi-automatic, there is a YouTuber who lives in Florida that has one.

FPSRussia: https://www.youtube.com/user/FPSRussia
Brotein92
It's not technically a SCAR-H, it's a SCAR 17S which is a semi auto civilian version with a 16 inch barrel.
Andolomar
What's the significance of the 16" barrel?
Brotein92
It's to keep it legal as a rifle in the US, a barrel under 16" requires a rifle to be registered with the ATF as an SBR
asanimgurianiliealot
Shorter barrels are better in close quarters combat. I assume they are restricted for the same reasons as automatic weapons.
bobopitt
As an english person. How or why do you own these??

I'd want one simply because of its cyberpunk look and because of stargate. I don't really care that much about shooting it.

Oh also, you can own these in half of the EU countries, it's just a semi-auto rifle. Most require you to be a shooting club member though.
DocVolt
It's not like you can't own one in Europe, I live in Italy and I got one, along my arx100. It just costs way more than in the U.S.
HereticalCactus
Don't you have to get a permit or something ?
Megarith
Depends on the country. In Austria, bolt-action rifles can be purchased by citizens that served in the armed forces (conscription)& are 18+
Megarith
Semi-autos and handguns can be owned if you have a license, which requires a psychological exam. Special exceptions can be made for Fullauto
DocVolt
Plus we are getting more and more gun open by the day. https://goo.gl/dgAAjq especially with the terrorists treats and all.
DocVolt
Firearm licence. It's considered a sport gun. There are three type of licences, "normal" self defence one, sport one and hunting licence
DocVolt
After you get your licence you buy the shit you want and you have a month to register it at the closest carabinieri station.then have fun
HereticalCactus
I live in belgium, and I only know about hunting registration where you have to go in a hunting confederation.
DocVolt
1)"Unlike residents of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts or California, law abiding responsible Italians can buy any revolver or semi-auto

Brotein92
As far as a practical reason I see firearms like this to be an insurance policy to keep a potential dictator from rising to power in the US.
FrustratedBluffing
I'm sorry but a dictator would have the military on his side, an armed citizen resistance wouldn't do much imo.
Brotein92
They would have some of the military but likely not all of it, also asymmetric warfare is hell for militaries
margaritaville
Yeah, like a bunch of civilians with no military training is going to make a dent into a facist regime with the US Army backing it..
Brotein92
Seemed to work fairly well for Al Qaeda and the Taliban, asymmetric warfare is tough for standing militaries
GadenKerensky
To be fair, if a dictator were to rise in America, you would have lost already, for he would've risen by the power of the people.
Brotein92
Not necessarily, may have risen by the power of some people but it doesn't necessarily reflect the viewpoint of the majority of Americans.
jrntn
Why is Trump in power then? The right to bear arms is the only one you have left and you're not using it.
tarataqa
Trump doesn't have enough vision or balls to be a dictator. He just wants to be called "Mr. President" for the rest of his life.
TristanVIII
Because as stupid and mentally bankrupt as he is, he's not a dictator...yet.
tarataqa
Then too bad America spends hundreds of billions yearly on the DoD which voids this "insurance policy"
Brotein92
That's assuming a large part of the military wouldn't be with a resistance movement if this were to happen, which I honestly hope it doesn't
tarataqa
Hahaha, every military is less independent thought and more blind alligiance. Gotta follow that chain of command.
Brotein92
Is this coming from your personal experience?
BigHugeSmallTaco
I get sad when I see this gun with a 16" barrel.
AntTrapHouse
It's just well endowed
ChefExcellence
Would I be committing heresy saying that I like how the longer barrel looks? Kinda prefer it, to be honest(don't hurt me pls)
Brotein92
I fully plan on SBRing it and throwing a suppressor on it
Wellfuckmesideways
Oh thank goodness. That'll be really cool
ImnotAllowedtoPostPublicly

RadioactivePizza
Isn't that the only way civilians can get it?
BigHugeSmallTaco
Yes or pay $200, ask for permission and wait half a year so tyrants can send you a stamp.
BigPig69
Then you can shoot the tyrants
WhoYouGonnaCallGhostNappa
You could also make your own shorter barrel if you have the skills tools and materials
DocVolt
I would probably end up ruining it
WhoYouGonnaCallGhostNappa
I'm just saying that this is a legal way of getting the short barrel without personally asking your sheriff for permission

When I see a P90 I always think of SG-1
BlueskydragonFX
Hehe yup. tbh, the mp5 they used at the start were quite useless. Makes the p90 look like real murder weapon.
bigjoemonger
Its because the mp5 uses 9mm ammo which couldnt penetrate the jaffa chest armor. But the p90 uses armor piercing ammo which does.

is the RCP90 the same as the PS90?
JustSomeFred
Technically it's the same as the P90, the auto version. Also, I'm not sure the the IRL version penetrates walls quite as well.
ImmaculateDegenerate
The fuckin fire rate and magazine capacity blew my childhood mind.
LANAAAAAAAAAADangerZone
Unfortunately it was nerfed in rainbow six siege and is now one if the worst guns in the game :(
jcraig919
I actually still loved it after the nerf. But then I found out I was better with MP5's so I stopped using it.
LANAAAAAAAAAADangerZone
Yeah same, used it with acog loads, but like the said the mp5 is just better

MP5s in the first few seasons and MP8s (H&K's answer to the P90) in the last few, as well as varied handguns and an M4 at least once.
fistermatic5000
Huh
onlyhalfghost
http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Stargate_SG-1_-_Season_4 this is a fairly representative sample.
arandompenguin
Yup, looked futuristic whilst still being recognisably human-made
aUsername85
Every gun looks human made. Should be obvious considering we haven't met any non-humans w/guns yet.
arandompenguin
You know the thing about Stargate is it's set in a fictional time where we have met non-humans with guns
aUsername85
But even the fiction is a human made creation
xpiation
It was THE gun in SG1. When I see this Stargate is always the first thing in my mind.
LostCause97
They did use MP5s for the first three season or so, but that show is almost certainly the main reason I've always wanted one of these.
SaltTitan
Rewatching SG1 right now. Always loved the P90 because of they show. For some reason during some of season 7 Sam uses a different gun too
WilliamHenryHarrisonForPresident
Sam switched to a custom m4 with dual drum magazine to represent ramped up military vs the goa uld. They also used mp7s past season 8.
BarbieSurprise
Thank you, that was very informative and quite interesting

I heard the blanks for P90s are more expensive so that factored in changing to the m4 as 5.56 blanks are cheaper? Can't remember the sauce
