Elections

I was really surprised to hear Ted Cruz's voice. You could hear it without seeing the man and immediately assume he was exactly the piece of trash he actually is.

Cruz can abandon the state, incompetent Abbott fucks the power grid, mayor of Uvalde oversees police cowardice resulting in mass murder, all get reelected. Texas has no standards.

The standard is unattainable for anyone who isn't part of the in-group... and somehow, Rafael Cruz is still part of the in-group, so he has no standard to meet.

Rafael going on vacation is a sure sign of your power going out and bad weather.

If people who voted Republican could understand basic facts about reality, they wouldn't vote Republican.

I think it's rather, if they could admit basic facts

Too wimdy, too bonespury, Imgonnarunanhide, they're all the same... cowards altogether, the whole party a collecting tank for insecure "men", heavily armed. Rock bottom of opportunism.

Texans think electing the worst possible person is somehow "owning the libs"

Not Texans. Republicans.

It's the "traditionalist" mindset. Many of them quite literally rationalize it by saying "Yeah, this person is a flaming pile of shit, but my family has always voted Republican, so I'm doing it too."

The thing that I'm boggles me, is that when one party dominates a state so much, why we don't see more competitive primaries. Like, yeah, sure, I get that Texas is a red state, but why Cruz? I know that I will be switching my registration and voting in the other side's primaries until I move out of the red state that I am in. I will vote in their damn primaries and never vote for one of their candidates in the general election.

Two reasons.

1) the incumbents usually have more backing from the party so long as they toe the party line. Basically, so long as you do what the party says and does, you will keep getting elected unless a candidate more suited to their party ideals comes along.

2) red districts vote Republican because they tend to be rural, and rural voters are predominantly white and tend to have an implicit or explicit bias against non-whites. This plays into the racism of the ultra-conservatives.

Well you see no one in his party of any substance ran against him for his seat and his constituents would rather keep him in place than ever vote for someone from the other party. As such in his Senate seat he's stayed.

That and the voters don't really care what else he does as long as they can convince themselves he's hurting the people they hate.

Texas hasn't had a free or fair election in decades.

As depressing as the US electorate appears to me (from the EU) I am quite convinced that a Mandami-style candidate (so a left leaning populist that walks the walk and actually listens to people) would probably be able to pull a significant amount of votes literally anywhere in the US. The problem is thst a good fraction of these people have been too busy complaining on social media instead.

Special interest groups invest HEAVILY in their opposition. Mandami was a miracle honestly. Proud moment in an otherwise terribly bleak time.

Yes, because they can inves money, but they will never be able to buy enthusiasm and loyal support with money. This is why it is important than regular people actually sand up and invest some of their time into such causes.

There was also the mayor of Seattle, Katie Wilson, and Mikie Sherrill, the first female Democrat governor of New Jersey. The Democratic leadership took one look at that grass-roots groundswell of support and.... promptly folded on the government shutdown, that the majority of people were blaming Trump and the GOP for.

Yes! True! And also yea that was so frustrating to watch. I feel like there is no real focus or leadership to rally behind.
