Its super useful info.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Ctrl arrow jump the cursor to the next word. With shift you also select it.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

you need a trick how to save a picture instead of taking a screenshot

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

People think I’m a witch at work when I do control Z :) burn her !

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ctrl + Shift + Esc opens task manager

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i'm glad more folks're learning of the update. still catch folks talking the old ways of ctrl+alt+del. classic, but perverted in these times

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In most cases, jump to address bar: Alt+D, close window/ Tab: Ctrl+W, restore closed tab: Ctrl+Shift+T. And most important: Ctrl+Shift+N

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I had to teach a person from work how to use a computer, turn my back for a second and she had the mouse on the screen ...it was a long day

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

actually touching the screen trying to find the cursor once she got the hang of it there were about fifty windows opened of the her module

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There must be some mistake here.. My friends always told me Ctrl + f4 was for free gold??

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Ctrl + Tab & Ctrl + Shift +Tab let you switch between tabs in browsers.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I dont think enough people know about this... But also I think I may just use a stupid amount of tabs

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a vim user, I need 22 shortcuts just to do basic text entry

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ctr shift T open last tab closed in browser.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Win+E opens file explorer, Win+1-9 opens apps you had pinned to taskbar. Shit feels like you're doing the launch sequence for a space rocket

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ctrl + Shift + T : undo the closing of a recently closed tab.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

REALLY!? AWESOME! You, sir/ma'am have brought something happy into my life today.

I work in IT. Our office manager had accidentally moved her inbox under another year’s archive folder, with a spastic mouse click - started

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Shouting about someone stealing her emails. Fixed her problem, hung about long enough to see her copying and pasting with the mouse...

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She nearly had my babies when I told her about Ctrl+C/X/V/P shortcuts. It was a revelation to her.... Office manager, ffs.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

ever used vim?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Clearly better, are we allowed to share that power yet? What's the suggested Ctrl+L to move to address bar stand for...Let's go?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Welcome to the 'Favourite And Forget' folder.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yep...

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Pro-tip... press 'alt + F4' when playing a game during a boss fight to download more ram and upgrade your cpu to up to double the cores.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I want to upvote you for using a variant on a troll I remember fondly from 1994, and yet also want to throttle you because (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I fell for that once in 1994 (2/2)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thats fine, I'll upvote you both comments

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And I yours. = )

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As Emacs user, what is this?

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

M-x cua-mode

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a vim user, please. You can just start typing right away at least

What about Alt+F4?

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

It's on there.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Harakiri

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's how you upvote on Imgur.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure that’s how you close windows. Not sure if Ctrl+F4 actually works on Windows, but Alt+F4 does.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Toggle Invulnerability Mode

A Facebook post by "Tumblr is life". Oof.

8 years ago | Likes 82 Dislikes 3

Badly cropped and then posted to Imgur. Welcome to the future.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

See you on Reddit!

"...curser", "...curser", "...curser", "...curser" *screams internally*

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

You sound like a curser. Your mom is disappointed.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Suddenly... "cursor!" then, sadly, back to your regularly scheduled annoyance.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Shift + win + s = quick snipping tool

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Nice app to use instead: ShareX. It does a lot more but I really like the ctrl + PrtScn replacement.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this was the only entry that was new for me.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*For Windows 8/10*

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

stopped reading at curser

8 years ago | Likes 297 Dislikes 6

It's ok if you know nothing about keyboard shortcuts, but you're probably better off just learning from tooltips of what you want to do

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was thinking the same thing lol

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yup.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Curser = someone that curses, so it's very useful to silence them : Curser : "Asshole !" [Ctrl+Del] Curser : "..."

8 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

Stopped reading at “tumblr”.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yay, there's several of us

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 1

I thought this post was about how to properly type and got dumb shortcuts everyone using a keyboard should know

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Here's the thing, the two spelled "curser" instead of "cursor" are actually decent tips. I've mixed feelings about this. Later it's correct.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's an app for for that on Linux: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nvbn/thefuck/master/example.gif

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

This better be real, I'm gonna try when I get home from work haha

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's really useful if you keep messing up your git commands.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

lol, did he alias "fuck" to do something? also, vim rules.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When you typo a command, if you follow it with a "fuck", it'll automatically fix it for you. Humor value aside, it's surprisingly handy!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Kind of ended up mangling the url, but it's up on https://github.com/nvbn/thefuck

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

lawl! that's fuckin' awsome, thanks man!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It works! Will be sharing with fellow employees and friends. Nice one.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup! Anyone who isn't smart enough to spell a six-letter word, has no business trying to teach anyone anything.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 13

On the other hand, maybe English isn't their first language. I have NO trust in a native speaker who can't spell, but I've worked with (1/2)

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

NO trust in a native speaker who can't spell? Do they need to know like... allllllll the words?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Incompetence at a low-level strongly suggests incompetence at a high-level. Would you trust a surgeon who can't even spell the word surgery?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Actually many studies have been done to determine the opposite is true the more knowledgeable you are on a subject the more likely you are 1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What I SHOULD have said was when someone can't spell a word that's closely related to their chosen topic of expertise it raises doubts.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

"Good even my naem r Capiten Roogers, eye wil b ur pie-lot for tooday! Dont wury an relaks, I reel gud at flyin plaenz"

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, true, and I've apparently slipped into hyperbole. Not "no" trust, but bad spelling seriously undermines credibility from the get go.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

enough people for whom English is 2nd, and I've learned to look past spelling a bit. I find sometimes patience/indulgence has paid off (2/2)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Agreed but those who fuck up then/than most, seem to be native speakers. If anything foreigners seem to get it right more often than natives

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've noticed that, too.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ctrl+w: close current tab when someone walks in. Ctrl+shift+t: reopen the tab you just closed

8 years ago | Likes 1124 Dislikes 2

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Anyone else remember Alt+Shift+Tab+ any direction on D-pad to make the screen flip that way

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The real hero

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I was about to add the Ctrl+Shift+T. That one is super usefull. Often close tabs by mistake when maybe researching something etc...

8 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

While ctrl+shift+T restores one tab, ctrl + T opens a new tab instead of a new window with ctrl + n

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bruh ctrl shift w. Close the whole damn thing to be sure. Easier to reach than alt f4 for some people.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You kids and your Internet. When I was a young teenager I had to go dumpster diving to find porno magazines.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I found a massive stash of porn mags in a stump in the woods next to my house when I was 6-7 years old.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ctrl+l/r arrows = move cursor per word. +shift into mix to select per word.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Came here thinking I knew all of these. I was happily mistaken. +1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but if you're in incognito mode then you can't reopen that porn you just closed

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Firefox you can, as long as it's not the last tab of the window. No idea about Chrome.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ah, okay. I mostly use Chrome and you can't there

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Use win + D, that will minimize everything.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Wife:" why u staring at a blank screen?"

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ctrl+shift+t won't work if you ctrl+shift+n

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Monodop is a greenie, he hadn’t developed full blown paranoia like the rest of us.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

so i did ctrl+shift+n and opened a window of my browser. did the ctrl+shift+t and the last porn i looked at popped up. thanks!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My friend doesn't get it.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ctrl+Shift+N is usually a tab with the creepy guy in a coat, hat, and glasses [incognito mode]. Reopening a tab like that is impossible.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 107 Dislikes 2

Fapper no fapping.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Also ctrl + shift + N for nasty business.

8 years ago | Likes 330 Dislikes 3

No..no....for science.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Remember, the CIA can't track you in this mode

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I think his glasses are blacked out from the inside.

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Thank you, but i let my disgusting taste of pornographic movies linger on my hard drive

8 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Once every pc has an AI: "hello John, would you like me to open up Transgender midget amputee incest porn for you?"

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That’s why you hide it, change the file to either something boring and out of mind (term paper 2015) or make it look like internet explorer

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

hide it at the end of a ridiculous trail of files: Images> Family pics> Aunt Brendas wedding pics> 23-A324-0043> Error:file not found> porn

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you really care about security, embed it in an image.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ooh that last resort “file not found” bit. I like it.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

In Chrome, ctrl+E shifts to the address bar to search, alt+D shifts to the address bar to navigate

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

For me CTRL+E opens my command window:

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never had to shift the address bar to search, since it already works by default as the primary search engine. Did you know you can add 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

keywords for different search engines? So you can switch the address bar to that search engine, by using the keyword?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I've found it handy once-in-awhile like when you want to force navigation (ie: navigating to an IP, which can be parsed as a calculator 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

problem) or force search (ie: you want to search information about a domain). But most of the time it's whatever. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

are...are there people who dont know this?

8 years ago | Likes 118 Dislikes 52

Mom says to me the other day “I hear using the keyboard to do click is the new thing” I assume she meant shortcuts. Just sent this to her.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I know some of these, but not most of them :(

8 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 2

Same here :(

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Had to explain to a manager at work that ctrl+F will helpfully find stuff she's been searching a list with hundreds of items for....

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dude, why you gotta shame your fellow man?

8 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 4

Because youre unable to spend 10 minutes to get acquinted with your tools

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

Are... Are there people who don't know that there are people who don't know this?

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 4

Most?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You'd be surprised. Tons of people at my job in their 20s who don't even know what the home/end buttons do. They're always amazed by it.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Tbf, at least I don't remember anyone ever teaching us their function.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People who have a lot of sex with a partner?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

In a few decade human children will know them by instinct at birth

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

This just in, some people haven't learned some things yet

8 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 3

Ive seen it with my own two eyes m8

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

I didn't know Ctrl-L, but pretty much all the other ones I use all the time.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

yep

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can use F6 instead of Ctrl+L

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What do you know.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah literally all middle-aged people in all offices of the world. They make twice as much money and are half as productive as you and me.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I am middle aged man. And speaking of shortcuts that's listed here it's just a top of the iceberg.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We still like you, middle-aged people at work.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thanks.
