It's a "regular" japanese fireworks-show: Shells after shells after shells are being launched, in an explosion of colorful art.

Yep, it sure is beautiful.

The show builds up, we get our climax and everything gets quiet.

You'd think the show is over, right?
WRONG!

The world's largest fireworks shell, 48 inches in diameter, is being launched.

Let's see that one in its full glory.

And then the show continues...

Getting surprised by night time flares is something Japan is used to.

Yes, but are they flat, or round?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I probably wouldn't even have noticed that if I was watching that live. Because I would have been asleep. Because fireworks are boring.

This is not the one your source claims is the largest (3:20)

Imagine havin the technology for fireworks to look like this back in WW1. People would see that explosion in the air and immediately give up

Dont think it was the largest. Largets was 2,200lbs 56" in diameter on December 31st 2017. But still pretty cool.

It's only a matter of time before someone invents a nuclear-scale firework. I don't know whether I'd be terrified or awestruck by its glory.

48 inches... How the hell do you launch something like that?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Through a launch pipe, or cannon if you will. 6-7% of the shell's weight in black powder is used to lift it.

Need banana for scale.

But they’d all be pixelated.

If you look closely, there is one, it’s just hard to see

I live in Japan & see a big fireworks display every year from my balcony. I can post pics if anyone is interested. Has buildings for scale.

I always admire people like yourself who can push aside such history and enjoy the present. Respect.

If you can’t laugh about things what’s the point? All you’re left with is a painful memory, and that’s not fun at all

I surprised you get that good of reception from hell. +1

True story, my granddad (RIP) was always comparing the quality of a fireworks show to a nuclear test he was invited to watch in Nevada.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So the best compliment a show could hope to receive was "That's the second best fireworks I've ever seen."
