A big problem is every mutt gets called a pit. I saw a story "3 pits kill old man" with pics of the dogs and one was a goddamn labrador.

I guarantee most people here wouldn't be able to tell a pit from a staffy from an American bulldog, let alone mutts with multiple breeds.

A friend has a pit. Very sweet, good with kids. Then they visited our house. Pit instantly attacked my dog (who started out in play posture)

As a breed they are unpredictable, and that's the problem. Individuals are mostly fine, but people don't trust anything that's unpredictable
