These are my girlfriend and I's two cats, Xena and Conan (left to right). The two of them were partners in crime, getting into anything and everything. We loved both of them very dearly.

This is the "family portrait" I happened to snag while we were watching a movie. It's still our favorite picture of the two of them.

Unfortunately today, Xena kept throwing up and was having problems breathing. We went to the emergency vet and took X-rays. Xena had a congenital defect where a blood vessel had wrapped around her esophagus and damaged it to an extent where she could no longer keep food down. My girlfriend and I made the hard decision today to ease her pain and let her go. I'm a grown man, and work in a medical lab with mice and have to put mice down on a regular basis. But Xena showed me that I could still care for an animal so small and precious, she showed me love even when she got caught in my dresser and got stuck. She showed me just how great a little kitten could be when we would play and fall asleep together on the couch.

I am so blessed to have had such a wonderful kitten, even if it was only for a short time. Xena, the warrior princess, the people's champion. Your Mom, Dad, and big brother Conan will miss you dearly sweetheart. We will remember you for the rest of our lives. Thanks for the many memories Xena, we will miss you very much!!

Oh dear fuck no. I'm so so sorry. She's way too beautiful for this world.

It's ok, you'll see her again. May not be soon, but it'll be when the time is right.

That really sucks. It's always harder with little ones.

Will do! Conan has received many hugs today on behalf of other users, I think he may hate me for a little for squeezing him so much haha

Your cat would want you to get another soon. After grief you will have all this overflowing love and it's gotta go to a new cat!

I am so sorry. As a fellow cat owner I feel your pain. Have cats for a year now and I really fear that day in a far away future.

Cat's sometimes get a lot of stick for being 'ass holes' but they are often just as sweet & as full of love as a dog. Sorry for you loss :(

Hate to hear this. I've lost cats. It's never easy. But I would keep an eye out for another feline in need.

Do you know if the defect was Persistent Right Aortic Arch? So sorry for your loss.

Yes, but her esophagus was already very damaged and she was having problems breathing, her prognosis was pretty bad unfortunately

Ah, I'm so sorry. You made the right (and difficult) call. You did good for her.

I had a cat named Zena that died of old age a few years ago. The two of them will tear it up in kitty heaven no doubt :)

Oh absolutely! Plus Xena steals any food she can get, whether it's cereal, treats, baked beans, she fights for everything lol
