I don't have snakes, but that seems like a BIG meal for a small snake.
Sky7821
Not really, hat's pretty average. They can detach their jaws to eat things much larger than their body width.

That snek is equally cute and terrifying.

You have to warm it in the microwave a bit first
rekypup
No never do that as the insides could be boiling hot and the outside the right temperature . Use hot water for 20 min
torrias
I bet that would smell fantastic
Only when they're microwaved too long
YourLocalGarbageMan
Christ... For real tho just bag the rodent and put it hot water.
+in*
I've done that, too
PanzaeronQ
That sir, is how you get yourself a microwave scented with mouse guts.
Xarann
... please tell me you're not serious.
In winter, feeding captive snakes, yep
The microwave will cook the rodent, which your snakes digestive tract isn't built to digest. They can become ill from it, I highly recommend
this was years ago and the snakes all did well. We set the microwave to 'thaw'
Thawing in warm water.
Warming is the way to go though the preferred method is putting it in a very secure bag/container and putting it in very warm water.
I was commenting on the microwave. Feeding an actual frozen rodent would damage the snakes internal organs and probably kill it. Microwaving
Cooks the rodent which can make the snake ill from ingesting.
You are generally correct. Some people simply let the food just thaw. In a pinch, microwaving works. They like body temp, not room temp.
Talmorean
Snek want live food, thrill of hunt!
TheNLK
Sometimes, but more often cobras just don't like eating rodents. Some prefer other snakes, lizards, birds, or fish.
Dekosthedk413
Snek tends to be expensive and deep gashes from the mouse are kinda like keying a new car.

I had a snake who showed no interest in live food. The frozen stuff was easier for us anyway.

It's the, Eye of the Viper, it's the thrill of the hunt. Rising up to the scent of the frightened...
While live feeding a predator does stimulate it and keeps its mind working, it also means the predator gets frustrated or even injured often
MarshmalineTheCampfireQueen
My snake had horrible sheds everytime until I started feeding pre killed. He's a horrible hunter and stresses so bad
RedFortuna
It is more natural. It's also natural for the mice to inflict hefty damage while fighting for it's life, too.
Which is why you don't dump them both in a tank and leave the room, duh.
heartsdie
We used to have a corn snake in 4th grade. Every Friday we'd get KrispyKreme and watch it hunt a live mouse. No harm ever came to the snake.

Jacksparrowsentmetosettlehisdebt
I've had plenty of snakes. Not one mouse tried to eat any. All live fed.
It has been recorded on a great many occasions. The mouse/rat gets left in the cage and starts gnawing on the poor thing. Ive dealt with
snakes scared extensively from that. Feed them dead mice, its safer and more human all around. And cheaper.
UndeadPrinceRicard
Some snakes don't eat dead meat - won't 'attack' and consume something that isn't moving, so you gotta put in live prey or the pet starves.
your pets then you shouldn't fuckin have them.
Is you can't get a snake to feed on pre killed rats/mice thats your shitty husbandry, and not on the snake. If you wont take proper care of
pterodactylptime
Ya, ummm bro, I'm not sure if you know this, but they're fucking snakes, not humans. Snek needsssss live miiiyyysssse.
